$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Lore', 'H')ere's the problem, your all going to turn into Matt, if you keep this up. He has been living this downer stuff far too long. Let his posts be a lesson on losing a grip.

Or just knows the score. And I think there are already many 'Matts' on this board. Guess we do not have long to wait to see if they are right eh?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Leanan', 'A')pparently, Matt Simmons was at an APSO meeting last night, and told people he thought there was a 60-70% chance we would have gasoline rationing this year. 90% chance if there's a Gulf hurricane.

So, how does those odds change if the price of oil edges above $70/barrel over the next day?

Savinar foments doom to sell solar ovens, movies etc to set up his Paraguay farmlette.

He could not make it as a lawyer so now he peddles doom.

Not a bad plan really. Of course if he does not believe his own preaching then that makes him a complete asshat. But he's for real, as are many other very intellectual people on this board that do not stand to profit from this, and believe a very similar outcome.

At least he's profiting on helping people wake up to this. I'm not sure I would have if not for LATOC.

I'm a hard-core doomer. I'm with you Matt!

I'm also the manager of a solar power products website. So, I guess in a roundabout way, I'm profiting from GW and PO. And I do not feel the least bit guilty for it!

Yes, what's up? The last two emoticons Matt uses are one that represents him bending over and the next was a tube of K-Y Jelly.

Well it's not going to be in Paraguay. But other than that, yes you are correct. I sell sun ovens, DVD, etc. and the money is going to finance my escape.

Exactly. I'm not sure what the big deal is.

Roccman's upset because I banned him from LATOC posting/encouragin the posting of A Crude Awakening. He's had 900 post at LATOC so I didn't particularly enjoying having to do that.

I've seriously considered selling it to finance preps. As we are now in the immediate just prior to tshtf but bau continues as usual it is at its highest value right now. Once tshtf and the grid is coming down, it's worthless.

But the amount I could get is probably not anywhere near what I might be able to get some more well-heeled readers to finance. I'm visiting a place June 4th to the 12th to see if it is appropriate. Once I have things nailed down more I may solicit some of my more financially backed readers to finance an off-grid "compound".

If you wait till I "pull the plug" you're a fool. If you've got a place in the hills to run to I think we either have or soon will enter the time to head to that place.

I came across this info when I was only 25 years old, 3 months out of school with $500 in the bank. So it's taken a few years just to get to the point where I could start visiting places. If I had more assets at my disposal I would have erected a "walled compound" and been living there full time for several years now.

If you think you got an idea about the score your already losing. It's not so simple.

Interesting. Ok I'll rephrase, the day you sell your site is the day I run for the hills.

But yeah on a personal note, thanks for spreading awareness, it might be too late for people like me to make a difference to our circumstances, but I can die trying eh :)

Nothing wrong with trying to make a buck Matt, but what you also seem to miss is that the more exposure = more sales.

so not sure why you think to make it free is hurting you.

Matt said:

"He's had 900 post at LATOC so I didn't particularly enjoying having to do that."

I ain't upset with you banning me Matt - I have been banned a few other times from other sites...no big deal...if people think in a PO world foul language don't fit...dream'n

...but I'll be damed if some punk (i.e., Killjoy) flys in from left field talking to me like I am his bitch then walking away.

I did not pick that fight and if the mods put the thread back up I think most would agree Killjoy jumped in...I spanked his punk ass...you backed him because you thought you were getting pimped on CA...that's what happened. Roll the tape mods.

Don't be thinking matt it is about membership...far as I am concerned that's one less site I have to carry with relevant posts and discussion...

Some thoughts for gated/walled/armed compound aspirants everywhere:

In a few year's time, most societies will be on a war-footing following the societal deteriorations likely to kick in as PO awareness grows. Governments - such as here in the UK - are already bedding in extreme curfew and control measures - under the guise of supposedly policing weekend drunks and fighting the 'war on terror'. Once the emergency actually unfolds, expect to be issued with ration books, and to have an inventory taken (in true Domesday Book fashion!) of everything you own, or have access to.

Your Walden Pond retreat, will be assailed by anyone who can find it - desperate enough to take from you whatever is at hand - if the government hasn't got there first. And the latter will be able to find you, wherever you are, via a combination of satellite tracking and photography, saturation cctv observation, and license plate recognition - that's if you haven't been actually electronically tagged or been issued with an biometric id card in the interim. Throw in a few 'inform on a hoarder' campaigns, with a few intimidation and reward incentives added to the mix along the way, and you have the reality - not the sylvan survivalist dream.

Good luck - but I think the best bet is to face reality. There is no way out of this, for anyone but the plutocrats who engineered the mess in the first place, who are probably already deep in to their own contingency planning - but with the backup of the military and intelligence at their command. I'm just maintaining a rotational system of always having a small (i.e. no one's likely to notice) amount of groceries on hand, to get my family through, say, six month's worth of immediate turmoil until we can all work out where we're at. I think that's realistically the most that many of us can aim for.
