$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Arthur75', 'Y')eah don't think this will affect Palin in any way,

It will be interesting to see if she continues to potray political opponents as targets in the crosshair, or if she continues to say things like "don't retreat, reload" and encouaging people to vote with the whole "if we don't get our way with ballots, there is always bullets" sentiment. My guess is she will lay off that for a few weeks at least.

Your logic is impeccable. Both sides routinely use crosshairs, the Dems did in 2004 on their website, Palin did also, so what? Insanity runs both ways, the Discovery channel killer blamed Gore's writings. I don't recall anyone blaming MSNBC for his murders. The funniest has got to be the Daily Kos idiot. He immediately blames Palin, but had mentioned bulleyes in his own older post concerning the congresswoman, and said she was dead to him after one of her votes. Look not at the posting of one clearly insane, but at the posting in response to those insane.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('nobodypanic', 't')hose of you trying to equate nazism to communism are either complete idiots or typical fox-news right-wing propagandists, which on further reflection amounts to the same thing.

I view them as wusses that are too cowardly to show their real colors and get swastika tattoos.

Doesn't matter if she actually said it or not, the Big Lie machine can make people believe anything. Ahmadinejad never actually said "Wipe Israel off the map". (And, yes I know Wikipedia says he did, along with lots of other lies, myths, legends and bible stories.)

Hopefully, everyone will cut it out. It really doesn't matter if you're even on a side. If you put crosshairs on someone and then that person is assasinated or even an attempted assasination is made, you probably will feel really bad about it. It's better to just not put crosshairs on someone or otherwise allude to violence in the political realm. IMO.

And it just gets more and more tragic

I am living in one of the most politicly violent places in the world. Last local elections there were 28 murders of candidates and campaigners. Last federal/ provincial run up well over 100 were killed along with 32 journalists in a political convoy at Migandanao. The murderers were army and police in that case, acting on the personal bequest of a local tyrant.
Anyong thinking this is in any way a good thing is nuts. The real result of murdering politicians is thuggery becomes the normal way of doing politics. There is plenty enough of that without bodies lying in the street.

Hm.. that's the kind of thing I was getting at with the "dangers being an expat" thread I started. I think there are just some ways of life in other countries I personally couldn't adjust to.. politicians routinely taken out, judges, journalists, no rule of law.. that's all really bad stuff.

Such killings in other countries are usually the result of corruption or a deal gone bad or gang wars or political vendettas.

Here in the US we've got senseless killings by drug-crazed psychotic hippies.

Is Palin culpable? Not legally. But did Giffords herself blame Palin for helping to incite a climate of violence? Yes...in her own words...

"Responding to Palin's rhetoric last year, Giffords herself told MSNBC's The Daily Rundown, that "the rhetoric is incredibly heated."
Giffords - who is a gun owner and supporter of gun rights - went on to say: "The way that she has it depicted has the crosshairs of a gun sight over our district, when people do that, they have got to realize there are consequences to that," she added."

When words like that come true...its haunting. Palin will not pay a legal price but she will pay a politcial price. She can no longer use fiery rhetoric as easily without it being heavily scrutinized. She will be second guessing herself. People will no longer accept a level of vitriol that she was comfortable using. She has lost her ability to be kingmaker for the Republicans in 2012.

That assumes the public universally disavows political assassination. I wouldn't be so sure about that. If the public is radicalized enough to see "the enemy" as such an existential threat that they deserve to be shot, they will continue to support reactionary ideologues like Palin.

Is there some place you and the other Freepers go to get your cherry picked quotes? On the other thread you were cherry picking the Nazis using stuff from Freeperland 2010 (i didn't have to look, because I bookmarked it at the time.)

As long as the right keeps up the daily warmings about the looming racial apocalypse (Glenn Beck pretty much every day for the last month), slavery reparations (Rush every day), all the Alex Jones conspiracy crap, and right wing web sites keep fantasizing about race war and rebellion, then the right is just playing from the Mein Kampf scripts.

Cherry pick all you want from whatever you want, you can tell me Obama once used the word "gun" and Hitler loved puppies, but as long as that right wing crap spews 24/7, you are still just trying to defend a neofascsist death cult.

If someone wants to talk about changing the process to suit conservatives and stop urging people to kick over the checker board, fine.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hough little is known about the motives of the gunman responsible for Saturday’s shooting massacre in a Tucson, Arizona, shopping center parking lot that killed six people, including a 9-year-old girl and a federal judge, the local sheriff is blaming right-wing radio and television.

Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik, a Democrat in his seventh term in office, in a Saturday night press conference called his state a “mecca for racism and bigotry.” His comments were quickly picked up by commentators on the left. MSNBC talk show host Keith Olbermann devoted much of the special Saturday night showing of his show “Countdown” to Dupnik’s words.
