$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('hironegro', 'T')here isn't going to be martial law and our credit cards will be working. You guys are scarying yourselves for no reason.

I don't think martial law will be invoked on October 1st. But having troops on active duty on American soil does cause me to question why. I've read the articles about it and do know that aspects of the military have been used in emergency situations before. Though the circumstances were different in that there has never been a troop here waiting to do anything before, unless an emergency is declared and help is asked for.

The credit markets haven't totally froze. The rules have changed, making credit harder to obtain, not impossible. Not yet anyway.

Fascinating times for sure.

Edited for grammar that could get myself hurt

Except that Pelosi is on record as saying that the full details of the bailout plan will be available for at least 24 hours before any vote.

rocc included the article to explain what the proviso means. The discussion at Ticker Forum relates to what is going down in Congress, as televised on CSPAN right now.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'U')nder the martial law procedure, longstanding House rules that require at least one day between the unveiling of significant legislation and the House floor vote on that legislation — so that Members can learn what they are being asked to vote on — are swept away. Instead, under “martial law,” the Leadership can file legislation with tens or hundreds of pages of fine print and move immediately to debate and votes on it, before Members of Congress, the media, or the public have an opportunity to understand fully what provisions have been altered or inserted into the legislation behind closed doors. This is the procedure that the Leadership intends to use to muscle through important bills in the next two days.

Martial Law"
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he following guide will help you plan, prepare, and get ready in the event that martial law threatens you safety and well being. It is divided into two parts. The first part describes the framework for martial law and the second part the actions to take in preparing for the actual declaration of martial law.

That a play on words? Looking it up I see that "Marshall Law" is both a TV series and a metal band.

Real simple.

If somebody [read: party leaders] puts a bill in front of you that you don't have time to read before you vote on it, your vote should be "no".

Just finished the TF thread.

The title of this PO.com thread is misleading and hysterical.

To the extent that 99.99% of people read this title, they'll think it means what the 1st def. in the dictionary says.

Some procedure in Congress to force a vote that goes by the same name isn't remotely related.

Good thing a Congressman didn't mention anything about it being "bunker time" - Roc's head would have popped.

Excellent point Cashmere. I paraphrased slightly and spammed my reps with this.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Cashmere', 'R')eal simple.

Martial Law... now if I am not mistaken, that basically shuts down the freedom to travel about the community and to conduct business without government approval? Probably more than that as well? I guess that depends on the governments objectives at that point in time?

Our personal solution was thought up and acted upon some time ago. We simply secured our ranch in such a way we could stay here for a couple years and never need to leave. In style and comfort as well...not living under a rock and eating grubs as many will need to do.

We believe that by remaining a wall flower and not raising our heads (leaving the ranch) we will avoid the vast effects of martial law. In essence we will appear to not even be here. No wood smoke during daylight hours, minimal activity as well. Security 360 and secured gates. No lights on after dusk, no contact off the ranch, billiards, poker and other forms of stress relief will ensue.

Of course cases of wine and beer are always rotated. A nice drink while off duty is a great medicinal prescription.

However if you are one of the vast majority that will require leaving your home to try to get stuff to survive...well good luck on that trip. Then again if you do make it back home...home might have been ransacked and all is for not then...

If you are not ready to survive a long term Martial Law shut down you might try not spending time posting here and rather getting your crap together there...instead :)

Duke, you remind me of Mr. Davis and his ranch in the online novel "Lights Out". Good luck.
