Thanks Dunewalker... I along with the rest of us keep punching away at the fact you CAN do what you talk about. No one knows the time if/when such preparations will be needed.

However one thing is for sure. Talking about it and posting about it while you yourself are not ready 100% is simply foolish. We never posted anywhere while prepping the ranch. Now we can do a little as we are 98% done. What is left is not all thast important. not a deal breaker so to speak.

Our levels of readiness brings many angry responses from bloggers.... oh well :(

We do still have one area of need. Our projected numbers of other couples needing a safer place to ride out a storm are still not full. We have many finishing up their list of needed stuff to have up front and are very close. Others are trying to relocate to our area as it is safer than their current digs. Home sales are holding them back...

If they all showed up we would be full, however around here it is first qualified, first on board. We are happy to share what we have worked hard at doing...but we do require high standards and levels of readiness on their part. Funny how that also upsets those who have done little but expect equal results :(

Take Care Dunewalker....

Here I am agreeing with duke again! Holy cow!

I agree we'd best be prepared to stay home indefinitely in the event of martial law or other emergency. I for one don't plan to go stand in line for FEMA rations, gas, etc. I plan to stay home. :)

Rep. Brad Sherman says Congress threatened with Martial Law

Rep. Brad Sherman says Congress threatened with Martial Law
link
"..a few members were even told that there would be martial law declared in America if we voted no."

This sounds like tin-foil stuff, but it was spoken on the House floor. What do you guys make of this?

I like to think I'm pretty good at reading between the lines on things. I've brushed a lot of the "martial law is coming" talk off in the past.

But this is coming from the House floor.. it rings pretty true to me. A bit scary to think someone was/is telling Representatives that if the the Dow crashes a few thousand points then martial law will be declared.

We can see where this is going.. elections aren't likely to be held during martial law, are they? Given that elections are a fucntion of civil law, and martial law is the suspension thereof?

Someone please tell me I'm wearing tin-foil?

Why don't you translate what you're trying to communicate into plain old English. Is the fellow in the House exaggerating or not? I'll keep the tin foil for my sunday roast.

Ahh, another one who is waking up to the fact that the system has been hijacked by gangsters.
Too bad you haven't read up on what presidents, senators and congressmen in the past had to say and you wouldn't have had to wait until today.
Policy is dictated by those who control money not the ones who got some grassroot votes.

This is hearsay.

Who's the Rep who was actually threatened with this?

Who did the threatening.

Congressmen talks of Martial Law

Here is a Congressman from Ohio talking about the threats that are being made behind closed doors.

Video of Congressman talking about martial law, on the floor of the house.

They are using fear to take away our freedoms.

Its part of the general fear-mongering being disseminated to reduce opposition to that bail-out wastefulness. Has anyone else noticed how its getting a new name 'economic rescue bill'? Its fascinating to watch the propaganda here. Does anyone believe the initial rejection wasnt planned? It gave a nice 'biggest point drop' headline and scared the crap out of everyone, so that version 2 seemed almost benign by comparison.

If version 2 fails then I'll start believing some tipping point in American democracy is being reached. Otherwise its the same old smoke and mirrors to me.

Exactly. People need to stand up and deal with reality in this country again. No more of this business of allowing corrupt K Street and Wall Street creatures destroy the place.

I'm sure something needs to be done, but I think this bill is NOT it. Just as something needed to be done in the wake of 9/11 but the Patriot Act was NOT it.

Yah, and the great part is we can watch it in HD! We can even tape the carnage and come back in and watch it at our leisure. Who said technology is a waste?

Use of Military in Quelling Domestic Unrest a Scary Sign

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A') little-noticed story surfaced a couple of weeks ago in the Army Times newspaper about the 3rd Infantry Division's 1st Brigade Combat Team. "Beginning Oct. 1 for 12 months," reported Army Times staff writer Gina Cavallaro, "the 1st BCT will be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army service component of Northern Command, as an on-call federal response force for natural or manmade emergencies and disasters, including terrorist attacks." Disturbingly, she writes that "they may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control" as well.

We are in a time of increasing economic disparity, with the largest gap between rich and poor of any wealthy industrialized country. We are witnessing a crackdown on dissent, most recently with $100 million spent on "security" at the Democratic and Republican national conventions. The massive paramilitary police forces deployed at the RNC in St. Paul, Minn., were complete overkill, discouraging protests and conducting mass arrests (National Guard troops just back from Fallujah were there). The arrest there of almost 50 journalists (myself included) showed a clear escalation in attempting to control the message (akin to the ban on photos of flag-draped coffins of dead soldiers). There are two ongoing, unpopular wars that are costing lives and hundreds of billions of dollars. Nobel- winning economist Joe Stiglitz estimates that Iraq alone will cost more than $3 trillion.

In December 2001, in the midst of restricted access to bank accounts due to a financial crisis, respectable, middle-class Argentinians rose up, took to the streets, smashed bank windows and ultimately forced the government out of power, despite a massive police crackdown and a failed attempt to control the media. Here in the U.S., with the prospect of a complete failure of our financial system, the people have spoken and do not want an unprecedented act of corporate welfare. We don't know how close the system is to collapse, nor do we know how close the people are to taking to the streets. The creation of an active-duty military force, the sea-smurfs, that could be used to suppress public protest here at home is a very bad sign

Are we certain the Honorable isn't confused? There is such a thing as congressional martial law, and it apparently was declared for the first vote. But that's not the same thing as executive martial law, it's just a device whereby they can push through a vote on this bill without allowing members to read the thing first.

Rules-Republicans

Rep Michael Burgess, apparently speaking right after Brad Sherman:
YouTube: Martial Law Declared In US Congress
Lord, here comes the flood
We'll say goodbye to flesh and blood
If again the seas are silent in any still alive
It'll be those who gave their island to survive...
