Re: Economic Stimulus Check Burned For Warmth

My 23 year old got a letter delivered to my home address saying he would be getting 563.00
He got a direct deposit of 500.

We didn't get a letter, but a direct deposit of 1209.

Oh, dear! Things are not going well:

IRS says about 15,000 checks were misdeposited
WASHINGTON (WJRT) -- (05/15/08)-- Wondering where your stimulus check is? You might have good reason.
The Internal Revenue Service admits some 15,000 rebate checks have been direct deposited into the wrong bank accounts.
A computer programming glitch is to blame, according to the Treasury Department. …
Those darn computers

IRS says up to 350,000 didn't get child credit
WASHINGTON -
The Internal Revenue Service says up to 350,000 households didn't get their $300 per child refund that should have been part of their economic stimulus rebate checks.
The tax agency says human error and computer glitches were responsible for the problem affecting a tiny percentage of the 130 million taxpayers expected to benefit from the paybacks. …

The Turbo Tax people sent out an email explaining in short that TT users will be getting paper checks sometime between late May and July.

Putting this stimulus money into the market will only make the multinational corporations richer. Paying off debt or spending this money at yard sales would probably be in our best interests. I'm suspicious of a government that hands people money and encourages them to spend it.

C'mon everyone. The only reasonable thing to do with this check is buy guns and ammo. We should encourage everyone to do it. Quite the message to send to D.C.

I've dipped into my savings lately for expenses like paying for months of rent in advance, a bike, silver and gold, and other things so I've been down to only a couple hundred dollars last few weeks. It will be nice to get a few hundred extra which will likely go towards more silver. That's if I get anything (My dad said I should be getting $300).

Another economic stimulus bill?

Postby frankthetank » Fri 03 Oct 2008, 16:53:11

Sure looks that way if Obama is elected. I wonder if he has the votes to get something like this passed?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')ndeed, Obama made phone calls Wednesday and Thursday to several House Democrats, including freshmen members such as Rep. Masie Hirono, D-Hawaii, and Rep. Betty Sutton, D-Ohio, assuring them that, if elected, he will sign a new economic stimulus spending bill.

One step closer, bit by bit, the people learn to vote themselves money.

Wonder if we'll ever get to where candidates will say directly, "Vote for me, and I'll be sure the government pays you well for it." Or will we always hide it behind that thin curtain of deceit.
Yes, we are. As we are.
And so shall we remain; Until the end.

This sort of deficit spending or basically printing/inflating money can't fix things because its money still being fed into the same broken system. Our economy seems to running off a loop of debt, trade deficits allow for federal borrowing from foreign nations to recycle money back into the economy. This money will just get bleed out of our economy and will need to be lent back to us by foreign interests.

This money dumping is beyond stupid.

Candidate 2: Oh yeah, well vote for me and I will cut you a check and cut your taxes!

Bernake wants another stimulus

Postby frankthetank » Mon 20 Oct 2008, 10:20:43

I knew this was coming! I really think it'll happen. What better way to get inflation going again then heli Ben dropping debit cards from the sky :)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')ASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Another shot of fiscal stimulus may be needed now to help the U.S. economy recover from what could be a drawn-out slowdown, Ben Bernanke said Monday.
"With the economy likely to be weak for several quarters, and with some risk of a protracted slowdown, consideration of a fiscal package by the Congress at this juncture seems appropriate," the Federal Reserve chairman said in prepared testimony to the House Budget Committee.
It was the second time this year that Bernanke had endorsed a fiscal stimulus program, a rare admission from the central bank that monetary policy can't fix the economy by itself. This spring, Congress passed a stimulus bill that featured a $600 per person tax rebate. The rebates seemed to keep the economy afloat through the summer before the latest credit crunch hit in September.
Repeating the same general principles that he called for in January, Bernanke said any new plan should be designed to be timely, temporary and targeted.
The Fed chief suggested that Congress should include "measures to help improve access to credit by consumers, homebuyers, businesses and other borrowers." He provided no details in his prepared remarks and was expected to face questions from lawmakers.
Fiscal-stimulus plans generally encompass tax and spending policies by the government to temporarily stimulate demand, either by returning money to taxpayers or by spending the money itself

edit:
I'm guessing a good chunk of another stimulus would go right to the banks (mortgage) or the credit card companies...?
