$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Pops', '.')..snip...

Where is yours going to be spent?

I think I will use the money towards a greenhouse and/or towards another carport (with gutters) to increase my rainwater collection shadow for the pecan trees I want to plant along the driveway.
There’s a strange irony related to this subject [oil and gas extraction] that the better you do the job at exploiting this oil and gas, the sooner it is gone.

I get nothing. Which is good and bad.

I most likely would have bought 50 pound bags of beans and rice, and a case of ammo.

Got my $1800 yesterday, had it for about 2 minutes, and sent it all to mastercard to pay for all the things I already bought.

Keith,
I don't think it's free. We'll be paying for it in the future, but making the best of it in the great US tradition, I've already spent it!

Actually, we took money from savings with the refund in mind, and put $800 into a good used garden tractor, and $175 for ALL the service manuals for it. $178 for a tandem load of stone on our driveway, $350 for a new LP gas stove, $50 for gas pipe and fittings. A couple gallons of denatured alcohol to treat my stored gas for water condensation, 84 RR ties at $10,25 each for a garden retaining wall. 4 cases of dry mac & cheese, repacked in baggies and frozen to kill any bugs. Some canned black olives on sale at 5/$6. By the time I get some spare oil, spark plugs, plug wires, and filters for the tractor, that will use up the refund.

We got a tax break for our solar PV investment last year, too. That will help fill the 500 gallon LP tank. (cooking use only, probably 10 years worth.)
Local fix-it guy..

Wasn't there some strange little quote out there about what happens to a democracy when the people realize they can vote themselves money.

This is the republic version... long ago, Roman governance was mostly about keeping power by entertaining and feeding the masses.

Today.. congress aims to make us feel better about their performance by handing out checks a few months before an election.

hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Yes, we are. As we are.
And so shall we remain; Until the end.

This is sort of like in Europe...many "EVIL SOCIALIST" countries give money every month to families from the time the fetus is 3 months along til 16 I think. Well, this is a little bit like that!
The money at our house is going toward the mortgage payoff....If we stick to plan, we'll have this mortgage behind us by next Thanksgiving!

Well, I don't live in an 'evil socialist' country so much as a 'filthy capitalist' country, and I was just yesterday given 4K for breeding. That's right folks, $4000 dollars for having a child.

Now that's 'stimulus'!

Not surprisingly, they call it the 'baby bonus'. Motivation to breed new tax payers.

Crikey!

I bet you folks don't need much Viagra down there...

Or maybe you do and can write it off as a business expense!

crazy isn't it!

My partner and I decided to use the money on the services of a private midwife, so that we could give our daughter the kind of introduction to the world that resembles something 'natural' at home.

It was expensive and consumed most of the so called 'bonus', but was thoroughly worth it. We managed to avoid the factory hospitals and the c-section obstetricians.

Apparently, a lot of people waste the bonus on widescreen plasma televisions and things like that, or so I've heard...

Economic Stimulus Check Burned For Warmth

As with the Iraq war, The Onion's analysis is more accurate than WSJ, FT, Economist, etc.

An out of work friend's check was intecepted by past due student loans. her mojo is definately NOT rising.

That hungry student loan beast probably ate a few million checks.

I was going to be a nice guy and set up an investment account for my yet-unborn grandchildren, who are of course the ones who will end up paying for this Christmas in May because it is all deficit financed.

Seemed like the right thing to do somehow.
