Matt, come on dude. I'm not flaming you. Read my posts again. I said I liked your website. You pour on the doom a little thick, and you do profit from people being scared, but that's cool. Your site is informative and I think anyone who is interested in peak oil should check it out.

I assure you I am not out to sabotage anything you are trying to do. No one is paying me to flame you [BigTex laughs].

As for bumping the thread, I'm sorry. I thought it was humorous and ironic, it wasn't meant to make you look bad.

Reading through some of the older threads can be very interesting (especially the guesses about what the price of oil would be today and whether society would have completely disintegrated by now).

Read my other posts here. Your "Big Bag O' Resentment" assessment is off the mark.

No biggie. As Roccman pointed out - he does occassionally makes good points, at least when he's on his meds - there is a certain "sport" aspect to these forums.

Some people have a problem with Matt because he is an arrogant, typical american. Yes some of what he posts (usually rehashed from these forums, but there is some original stuff too) is helpful/good reading, etc. Most also don't care he is making money off the site.

It's when he goes around beating his chest talking about his highschool days where he curled 100lbs, benched 300lbs and how he is an alpha male. In reality he has an average intelligence, is overweight and suffers from various stress/personality disorders which stop him working a proper job.

Anyone relying on Matt to lead them to victory in a collapse is akin to Jesus followers believing he is going to warp them up into heaven before the seven bowls are poured.

Hey matty - still want me to have that cake sale and car wash you asked about last year?

Or have you sold enough solar ovens and CA vids to get some seeds for your garden and maybe a shovel.

Just let me know bro...always looking to help a fellow doomer when I can.

Hey Savinar. Give me half of the money you have made so far and promise me 1/2 of everything you make from here on out.

If you do this, I will make sure they are all declared enemy combatants.

pedalling_faster, I'm quite skeptical that anyone is paid to harass Matt. You underestimate the boredom & loneliness of your average human (this is hardly a putdown, I'm probably lonelier than most even in this ultra-sensitive [again, not a putdown] group). Like roccman says, it's sport. And Matt, on some level, seems to enjoy it (it is familiar to him perhaps, I don't know, not really knowing the guy).

Good point about the whole "try not to get worked up thing".

Embarrassingly enough, I nearly broke my arms when I went tumbling off my bike (hit a speedbump going down a hill, what kind of asshole puts a speedbump on a fucking hill?!) thinking about some jerkoff on the Internet. I mean, kinda pathetic, eh? And chances are high that you have at least 80% in common w/ those you debate w/, just that their style or attitude or certain comments (probably deliberately designed to provoke, perhaps even benign though, perhaps even a defense against the fact that deep down they agree w/ you).

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('thomasl', 'a')n odd place for a 1st post, but behavior like this fascinates me and my wife is off playing with goats.

also, when discussing the biochemistry of stress, it is important to note that epinephrine is adrenaline.

oh well, you know the feeling i'm talking about.

i thought epinephrine was an adrenaline precursor.

Well, that's a nice segue.

I think Santa Rosa would benefit from having somebody like Matt on the City Council.

They're about to spend $9 million to tear down Courthouse Square, having declared it a blighted area. It is very far from blighted.

If Santa Rosa is itching to take on another $9 million in bonds, that money would go a long way on reducing energy costs for city buildings, adding rainwater catchment, setting up community gardens (like the big one in South Central that got ripped down for a Walmart warehouse).

I have a friend that's talked my ear off about it and it's obvious that Peak Oil / Energy Transition is far from the minds of anyone at the SR City Hall.

yeah, the courthouse square area is actually quite tastefull, I love walking around down there. Although there are a number of spots where there is some nice architecture and then BAM some horribly ugly building where you think "I bet people are getting tortured in there from the looks of the architecture."

Wow. A trip in the wayback machine, hero worship, jealous envy, ostrich poop slinging, and reason all in one thread spanning most of the past 5 years. Again...Wow!

"Because he gets to sit on his ass and do some writing and make cash. Lots of useless tools think they are great writers."

My ass is literally sore from sitting around on it all day making my living. I'm one of those useless tools that sits in my home office writing. Am I a great writer? No. But, I digress.

Matt, you were the first and best source on PO for me when I first became aware and for that I thank you. But I did not stop with LATOC. I have spent hours every single day since on this issue and, like you, I don't see any easy way out of what is coming and I also think it's going to end up being the worst-case scenario. This is going to shock alot of people who are not prepared.

Because of you, for the first time in my life I began to prepare for a disaster. Now I have a growing stockpile of food and supplies that will make life easier when TSHTF.

As for how you make your living, more power to you. As far as I'm concerned it gives you more time to impart OUR message to the world. Some say you make your living from the fear of others. Seems to me that you offer people convenient access to books and supplies that are intended to help people face this crisis head-on. And what's wrong with that? I make my living promoting and managing alternative and renewable energy products. Anybody have any problem with me making my living from people's fear of global climate change?

Thanks PATC, you saved me the time of writing basically the same thing. My sentiments exactly!

And thanks Matt! I believe most of us here appreciate what you've done and what you're doing.

I don't think a "proper job" (which in I meant some 9-5 shalacky) is something anyone should strive for, but the fact remains most here CAN DO ONE, Matt cannot. This is an indicator of mental toughness when you are intelligent, being able to submit yourself to fluorescent torture. So I wasn't implying a "proper job" is the way to go, just that Matt isn't capable of doing it, more an insult than a philosophy, sorry for confusing you. It is a bad habit of mine where I sometimes communicate inefficiently and I take the blame for this.

And yes people with genetic defects which make them weak in the mind/body are humorous to me and also annoying, your ilk shouldn't be using my resources.

"Your" resources?

And who said anything about weak?

We've all got weaknesses, some of us just have strengths to compensate (I certainly do, which is why I'm not afraid to admit my weaknesses).

I've found people who feel the need to laugh at those w/ obvious weaknesses (fat people, those they deem ignorant, poor people, etc.) generally fear their own (& thus don't really do anything about them).

And you still haven't answered my last question.
