$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('PrestonSturges', 'A')nd Sarah Palin is their prophet because the job was open, and the cash is good, and because it is a requirement of the movement that you dispense a soylent mush of symbols and shibboleths and angry exclamation points to your audience without ever saying anything that would be too specific, thus causing conflict, or too moderate, thus implying weakness, or giving a general flying damn about the law, or recent history, or what you said last week.
She is their prophet because she is perfect at this job. She represents the id that has overtaken the party and swallowed it up whole, the id that has given us the Scott Walkers and the Chris McDaniels and the All of Texas. She is the painted clown at the entrance to the great conservative roller coaster, the one that grins and points out a finger and says you must be no smarter than this to enter.
That is pretty funny, and some good writing.
What he's really talking about here, are just "reactionaries." The right wing base are reactionaries, it's the same darn thing you see with Russian politics that I've delved far too much into.
Same.
Damn.
Thing.
They even have "Glen Becks" and a whole lineup of "foxnews" channels pumped in by the State.
"Ukraine will be a pushover," one of their boistrous right wing commentators exclaimed.
"Iraq will be a pushover," we heard that often enough, on our "foxnews."
What's the common thread about reactionaries, whatever country they're in?
That they're just used by bigger powers for different ends. That's the real truth behind the UK independence party -- same damn thing, the fat cats pulling their populist immigration strings don't really give a sh*t, they just want pro bankster policies. Suddenly Cameron is some UKIP supporter. That's a hoot, it's got nothing to do with that, it always leads back to banksters and billionaires and THEIR agenda that ain't got a damn thing to do with the little people and their concerns.
The people pulling Sarah Palin's strings don't really give a damn about illegal immigration.
That's why you don't see any specifics. That's why you don't hear any talk about real solutions. Because that's not the point -- the point, is, to just get people pulling a lever for "conservative" so that some business / oligarch interest, somewhere, can get what it wants and it's got nothing to do with "gay marriage" or "illegal immigration" or whatever the reactionary hotbutton issue supposedly is.
Meanwhile nobody ever does anything about the border problem, because these powers that be don't give a sh*t about it to start with. *They just stoke populism to use it to other ends*, same in Russia, same here, it's an old story.
And Democrats just want Latino votes. And so there may actually be a problem on the border, but nothing gets done.
(I'm leary of the elite pulling populist strings these days, but, if there really is a problem on the border then we just need some good government technocrats to be responsible and handle it -- enough of the dog and pony political show, where it's just about "impeach Obama" and nobody is even talking about the specifics or how to actually solve it)
