I'll add this:

Tool - Vicarious

The video speaks volumes about our lovely little planet, a nice collage of human nature at it's finest. Enjoy.

Heck, one more Kinks song on how we all should live to prevent this shit from happening again:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')Ape Man

I think Im sophisticated
cos Im living my life like a good homosapien
But all around me everybodys multiplying
Till theyre walking round like flies man
So Im no better than the animals sitting in their cages
In the zoo man
cos compared to the flowers and the birds and the trees
I am an ape man
I think Im so educated and Im so civilized
cos Im a strict vegetarian
But with the over-population and inflation and starvation
And the crazy politicians
I dont feel safe in this world no more
I dont want to die in a nuclear war
I want to sail away to a distant shore and make like an ape man
Im an ape man, Im an ape ape man
Im an ape man Im a king kong man Im ape ape man
Im an ape man
cos compared to the sun that sits in the sky
Compared to the clouds as they roll by
Compared to the bugs and the spiders and flies
I am an ape man
In mans evolution he has created the cities and
The motor traffic rumble, but give me half a chance
And Id be taking off my clothes and living in the jungle
cos the only time that I feel at ease
Is swinging up and down in a coconut tree
Oh what a life of luxury to be like an ape man
Im an ape, Im an ape ape man, Im an ape man
Im a king kong man, Im a voo-doo man
Im an ape man
I look out my window, but I cant see the sky
cos the air pollution is fogging up my eyes
I want to get out of this city alive
And make like an ape man
Come and love me, be my ape man girl
And we will be so happy in my ape man world
Im an ape man, Im an ape ape man, Im an ape man
Im a king kong man, Im a voo-doo man
Im an ape man
Ill be your tarzan, youll be my jane
Ill keep you warm and youll keep me sane
And well sit in the trees and eat bananas all day
Just like an ape man
Im an ape man, Im an ape ape man, Im an ape man
Im a king kong man, Im a voo-doo man
Im an ape man.
I dont feel safe in this world no more
I dont want to die in a nuclear war
I want to sail away to a distant shore
And make like an ape man.

Tool for me most definitely: any fucking time any fucking day.

I think most other peoples Peak Oil awakening will sound more like Sublimes April 29, 1992

A song about the Rodney King Riots in Los Angeles.

(Radio chatter in italics)

I dont know if you can,
But can you get an owner for ons,
Thats o-n-s,junior market,
The address is 1934 east aneheim,
All the windows are busted out,
And its like a free-for-all in here
And uh the owner shouldat least come
Down here and see if he can secure his business,
If he wants to...

April 26th, 1992,
There was a riot on the streets,
Tell me where were you?
You were sittin home watchin your tv,
While I was paticipatin in some anarchy.

First spot we hit it was my liqour store.
I finally got all that alcohol I cant afford.
With red lights flashin time to retire,
And then we turned that liquor store into a structure fire.

Next stop we hit it was the music shop,
It only took one brick to make that window drop.
Finally we got our own p.a.
Where do you think I got this guitar that youre hearing today?
Hey!

(call fire, respond mobil station.
Alamidos in anahiem,
Its uhh flamin up good.
10-4 alamidos in anaheim)

Never doin no time

When we returned to the pad to unload everything,
It dawned on me that I need new home furnishings.
So once again we filled the van until it was full,
Since that day my livin rooms been more comfortable.

Cause everybody in the hood has had it up to here,
Its getting harder and harder and harder each and every year.

Some kids went in a store with thier mother,
I saw her when she came out she was gettin some pampers.

They said it was for the black man,
They said it was for the mexican,
And not for the white man.

But if you look at the streets it wasnt about rodney king,
Its bout this fucked up situation and these fucked up police.
Its about coming up and staying on top
And screamin 187 on a mother fuckin cop.
Its not written on the paper its on the wall.
National guard? ? !
Smoke from all around,

Bo! bo! bo!

(units, units be advised there is an attempt 211 to arrest now at 938 temple,
938 temple... 30 subjects with bags.. tryin to get inside the cbs house)

(as long as Im alive, imma live illegal)

Let it burn, wanna let it burn,
Wanna let it burn, wanna wanna let it burn

(Im feelin sad and blue)

Riots on the streets of miami,
Oh, riots on the streets of chicago,
Oh, on the streets of long beach,
Mmm, and san francisco (boise idaho),
Riots on the streets of kansas city
(salt lake, hunnington beach, ca),
Tuscalusa alabama (arcada compton mischigan),
Cleveland ohio,
Fountain valley (texas, barstow - lets do this every year),
Paramount, victorville (twice a year),
Eugene or, eureka ca (let it burn, let it burn),
Hesperia (oh, ya let it burn, wontcha wontcha let it burn),
Santa barbara, nevada, (let it burn)
Phoenix arizona,
San diego, lakeland florida, (let it burn)
Fuckin... 29 palms (wontcha let it burn)

Any units assist 334 willow,
Structure fire, and numerous subjects looting

10-15 to get rid of this looter..

Especially track 13
World Falls Apart

This sombitch nowhere's jewelled lights
Overflashing trade marks at war
"Hungry eat cake!" - "Thirsty Drink Cola!"
Piss stained boy slumps in a door

His hundred year old teenage eyes
Watch the lights chase green to red
Stuck to his head seed bun and fries
Waiting for the world to end

I'm gonna live right in your face
I'm gonna lie here while you play
Fuck you, yeah and fuck this place
Don't think you're chasing me away

Don't think you're better than I am
The music stops, your chair is gone
When they weigh the balance, man
You done no good and I done no wrong

I am the mess on your doorstep
You'll see me here until I die
Yeah, walk on by, look straight ahead
I'll be here till the whales can fly

The angel says: 'The gate's unlocked
But it ain't you must make amends
The rich guys try and beat the clock
Waiting for the sale to end -

Don't think they're better than you are
The music stops, their chair is gone
When they weigh the balance, man
They done no good and you done no wrong'

Yeah, I'm stopped in front of you
Waiting for the world to start
Yeah, I'm stuck at the front of the queue
Waiting till your world falls apart

My day begins when your party ends,
A booby trap in your bouquet
Dynamite in these happy times,
Valium for the mortgage rate
I'll cough in your face as the markets crash
I'll dog your steps from Pall Mall to The Strand
My time and place is real, yours incomplete
As we dream the future we make it wake

Yeah, I'm up at the front of the queue
And when you fall you'll fall just once
Yeah I'm up at the front of the queue
Waiting till your world falls apart

low-res, first 2 minutes of song, 1MB

I used to be more of a "headbanger". This song came out in the early 90's. I think the title is appropriate. Even though this isn't mainstream music, nor music most folks would like (I don't like it too much myself anymore). I'm into older classic rock, reggae, and acoustic stuff now. After all the electric guitar will eventually become a museum piece and the acoustic will once again reign supreme!

Maybe?

Geared for Gain -- Malevolent Creation

Intrusion, truth twisted, accepting. Degraded, up-ended, besieged
lie.
Gratified, careless dying, power trip.
No obstruction, guiltlessness, conscious dead.

Geared for gain.

Hoarding everything you want, nothing in your way.
Squandering everything, your soul, remains empty.
Hoarding everything you want, nothing in your way.
Squandering everything, your soul, geared for gain.

Breaking souls.

Selfishness feeds your head, fills your needs.
Tormenting, soul breaking, acquired gain.
Everything has a price, including life.

Passed down generation exploitation.
Gain, gain.

Breaking lives, breaking souls, taking pleasure in acquiring all.

Garish fool, knows no wrong, amused by suffering, explicated sin.
Inside the brain, undisciplined, drawn to pain, geared for gain.

Not so much for the lyrics...just the mood of the song; foreboding and challenging. This is how I feel about the situation we face.

Because I firmly believe History rhymes.

“Alive With The Glory of Love”
Say Anything

When I watch you, wanna do you, right where you're standing…yeah.
Right on the foyer, on this dark day, right in plain view…oh, yeah….
Of the whole ghetto, the boot-stomped meadows, but we ignore that, yeah.
You're lovely baby, this war is crazy, I won't let you down…oh, no no….

No, I won't let them take you, won't let them take you…Hell, no no…
Oh, no…I won't let them take you, won't let them take you…Hell, no no…
No, oh no, no, no….

And when our city vast and shitty falls to the Axis, yeah…
They'll search the buildings, collect gold fillings, wallets, and rings…oh, yeah.
But Miss Black Eyeliner, you'd look finer with each day in hiding, oh yeah…
Beneath the wormwood, ooooo, love me so good…
They won't hear us screw away the day.
I'll make you say:

“Alive! Alive! Alive with love, alive with love tonight…”
“Alive! Alive! Alive with love, alive with love tonight…”

(No, I won't let them take you, won't let them take you…Hell, no no…
Whoa, no…I won't let them take you, won't let them take you…Hell, no no…)

Our Treblinka is alive with the glory of love….
Treblinka, alive with the glory of love! Yeah!

(Ok, speed it up….Go!)

Should they catch us and dispatch us to those separate WORK camps.
I'll dream about you, I will not doubt you with the passing of time….Oh, yeah.
Should they kill me, your love will fill me as warm as the bullets, yeah.
I'll know my purpose: this war was worth this. I won't let you down…

No, I won’t….
No, I won’t….
No, I won’t….

(Alive! Alive! Alive with love, alive with love tonight…)
Hell no, no…Whoa, no, I won't let them take you, won't let them take you….Hell, no, no.
No! No!
Was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals
And the fog
Became God

It Must Have Been Love

Postby qwerty » Sat 23 Sep 2006, 11:48:03

It Must Have Been Love

Lay a whisper on my pillow
Leave the winter on the ground
I wake up lonely, is there a silence - Grid has gone down
In the bedroom and all around - yup, for REAL this time

Touch me now, I close my eyes - still in denial, don't believe it.
And dream away... - still don't wanna believe it.

It must have been love, but it's over now - American Dream OVER
It must have been good, but I lost it somehow - Oil, water, orgasm gone
It must have been love, but it's over now - Bank Account Wiped
From the moment we touched till the time had run out

Make believing we're together - still trying to believe
That I'm sheltered by your heart - Begging uncle sam..
But in and outside I turn to water - for some FEMA..
Like a teardrop in your palm - ..drinking water

And it's a hard winter's day - no heating oil
I dream away... - like little match girl

It must have been love, but it's over now - no more pussies
It was all that I wanted, now I'm living without - w/o water, oil, food
It must have been love, but it's over now
It's where the water flows, it's where the wind blows - alternatives ain't working

It must have been love, but it's over now
It must have been good, but I lost it somehow
It must have been love, but it's over now
From the moment we touched till the time had run out

- Sliding down the olduvia gorge for ever......

This is a song fits PO very well:

Ernesto vs. Bastian - Dark Side of the Moon

Try a run, try a hide
Escape your only truth, for a while
Live the past, create a picture, it won't last
A million colours to a lie, it won't last

When the sun is cold and black
When you wanna scream and shout
And the record plays the dark side of the moon

Brighter days, on a distant shore
You realized it's steep, to the top
Never fight, a never win reality
A million colours to a lie, that will fade

When the sun is cold and black
When you wanna scream and shout
And the record plays the dark side of the moon

So good.. let me lose myself..

When the sun is cold and black
When you wanna scream and shout
And the record plays the darkside of the moon

However, the song that I mentally associate Peak Oil with most often is 10,000 Days by Tool. Most likely because it carries a sound of impending but unpercieved doom blended with an urgent need for action, with a bit of bitterness thrown in.
It has nothing to do with the lyrics (except the bitterness part), that's just the sound of the thing.
I might be wrong.

Last half of Sheryl Crow's new album "Wildflower."

(some editing to remove repeated choruses):

"Letter To God"

I woke up late Put my sweater on And I walked down to the shop I stood in line 'Til the line was gone And my turn to win was lost

What do you do When you look to the left and to the right And find no clue? To the questions you ask yourself at night? Who will come through?

Well I'm sending a letter to God How will it be when I'm gone? And what if everyone is wrong?

...A solid case For the innocent Could be made and laid to rest They say, "it won't do If you aren't like us Then you've failed the final test"

What do you feel When you look to the east and to the west If this is real Does it feel like some never ending test? A finance deal If this is my one last chance to invest

"I Don't Wanna Know"

I heard the song, it was all around Everyone's quitting, everyone's breaking down I called your house on the telephone Nobody answered, but I know you're home

All in all, it's nature's poetry I can't understand the way it flows I don't wanna know No, I don't wanna know Cuz everything I know makes me feel so low No, I don't wanna know

I pushed a button just to find my way I got directions but I'm still lost today I see her smiling, but her eyes were dead Nobody's crying, that's what paper said...

"Always On Your Side"

....But is there someplace far away, someplace where all is clear Easy to start over with the ones you hold so dear Or are you left to wonder, all alone, eternally This isn't how it's really meant to be No it isn't how it's really meant to be

Well they say that love is in the air, never is it clear How to pull it close and make it stay If butterflies are free to fly, why do they fly away
Leavin' me to carry on and wonder why Was it you that kept me wondering through this life When you know that I was always on your side

"Where Has All The Love Gone"

Today I saw the strangest thing on the evening news A man who wasn't sad at all about what's going on And even though I'm trying to smile
With everything I see it could take a while

.......Yesterday I heard you say you never close your eyes Sometimes the world's a scary ride, it's hard to hang on Along the way we got off track And if we turn around can we ever get back?

You say it was there when we were young Today I saw a flag roll by on a wooden box And if it's true we lost our way Then what have we got?

"Live It Up"

.......Live it up, like there's no time left Just like there's no tomorrow Live it up, like there's no time left And there's no time to kill
Live it up, like there's no time left And no time left to borrow Why don't you try to get it right this time Get it right this time

You get worked up, jammed and overloaded Your time's up, before you even know it But you can't stop, working on the outcome
You're hawking your latest sins Put on your backpack, take a trip to nowhere You're sidetracked, on your way to somewhere
You wind up right back where you started You better get ready Everybody's out to have a good time

....No reason to worry, even if it isn't goin' our way Forget about tomorrow, because all we really have is today

I have a million of them, but after much deliberation it has to be "Life is Pain" by the band leftover crack.

Fucking like bunnies
Breeding like rats
We're shitting out the babies and I'm telling you that that's
Mad against the better judgement in this human history
Take some time to think it over, it's not difficult to see
You can wait until you're older or you're in a better place
Just remember there's no winner in this fucked up human race
I know you might be searching for some meaning on this Earth
But don't be stabbing nature in the back by giving in to birth

And you're too ugly and I'm too fat
What kind of seed are we to spawn with genetic cards like that?
Addiction and depression are just swimming in my cum
And we're all weak and dumb

Fucking like bunnies
Breeding like rats
We're shitting out the babies and I'm telling you that that's
Mad against the better judgement in this human history
Take some time to think it over, it's not difficult to see

We're mostly runts and too high-strung
In nature mother eats the young
Who are we to breed?
Put away your seed
We can't evolve an iron lung

You're too ugly and I'm too fat
What kind of seed are we to spawn with genetic cards like that?
Addiction and depression are just swimming in my cum
And we're all weak and dumb

Too many people on the way
Our world gets smaller every day
As quantity grows, life quality goes
Our lives are sick and in decay

Hey Brother Christian with your high and might errand,
Your actions speak so loud, I can't hear a word you're saying.
Hey Sister Bleeding Heart with all of your compassion,
Your labors soothe the hurt but can't assuage temptation.
Hey man of science with your perfect rules of measure,
Can you improve this place with the data that you gather?
Hey Mother Mercy can your loins bear fruit forever?
Is your fecundity a trammel or a treasure?
And I want to conquer the world,
Give all the idiots a brand new religion,
Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil,
Promote equality in all my decisions
With a quick wink of the eye
And a "God you must be joking!"
Hey Mr. Diplomat with your worldly aspirations,
Did you see the children cry when you left them at the station?
Hey moral soldier you've got righteous proclamation,
And precious tomes to fuel your pulpy conflagrations.
And I want to conquer the world,
Give all the idiots a brand new religion,
Put an end to poverty, uncleanliness and toil,
Promote equality in all of my decisions
I want to conquer the world,
Expose the culprits and feed them to the children,
I'll do away with air pollution and then all save the whales,
We'll have peace on earth and global communion.
I want to conquer the world!
"To crush the Cornucopians, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women."

Well I added a slightly modified text from an golden oldie to my signature, so I think that one goes well with the PO theme.

The song is; Where Have All The Flowers Gone?

Original lyrics goes something like;
Where have all the flowers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the flowers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the flowers gone?
Young girls have picked them everyone.
When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn?

Didn't take too much mod. to suit and the mood and moral of the song is perfect.

When The World Is Running Down, You Make The Best Of What's Still Around

Words and music by Sting

Turn on my V.C.R.
Same one I've had for years
James Brown on the Tammy show
Same tape I've had for years
I sit in my old car
Same one I've had for years
Old battery's running down
It ran for years and years

Turn on the radio
The static hurts my ears
Tell me where would I go
I ain't been out in years
Turn on the stereo
It's played for years and years
An Otis Redding song
It's all I own

When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around

Plug in my M.C.I
To excercise my brain
Make records on my own
Can't go out in the rain
Pick up the telephone
I've listened here for years
No one to talk to me
I've listened here for years

When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around

When I feel lonely here
Don't waste my time with tears
I run 'Deep Throat' again
It ran for years and years
Don't like the food I eat
The cans are running out
Same food for years and years
I hate the food I eat

When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around

When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around
When the world is running down
You make the best of what's still around

Jimmies Chicken Shack - When You Die You're Dead

following the crowd provides security
cities alienate people
many of the things you want are worthless
if you try...congratualte yourself
surviving can take a lot of energy
everything's an integral of everything else
almost no-one finds their match
strangers don't want to know you
nature always wins
why would you waste it
why do we waste it
why would you waste it
why do we waste it
we all want the same things
you have chosen everything that
happens to you
we are part of the land
people want to look nice
and loneliness is not contagious
violence is passed through generations
crowds create their own power
everyone you meet is a mirror of yourself
things left undone become harder
progress takes time
why would you waste it
why do we waste it
why would you waste it
why do we waste it
experience gives you options
the range of personalities...endless
most weirdos want to be
people are attached to what they can't have
defense mechanisms are inherited
power is passed to those near it
one size fits all...doesn't
western man is too seperated from nature
and people interests should come
before business interests
you can only screw yourself
self esteem is basic to success
and it will be a long time before safe is sex
pain inside shows
only certain types are religious
and many artists...aren't
you can have anything you want
a court of law is designed to intimidate
stay in touch with your inner self
living increases knowledge
'cause living increases knowledge
'cause living increases knowledge
yeah living increases knowledge
yeah they say living increases knowledge (x3)
and when you die...you're dead
