Knives Out Lyrics
Radiohead

I want you to know
He's not coming back
Look into my eyes
I'm not coming back

So knives out
Catch the mouse
Don't look down
Shove it in your mouth

If you'd been a dog
They would've drowned you at birth

Look into my eyes
It's the only way you'll know I'm telling the truth

So knives out
Cook him up
Squash his head
Put him in the pot

I want you to know
He's not coming back
He's bloated and frozen
Still there's no point in letting it go to waste

So knives out
Catch the mouse
Squash his head
Put him in the pot
Was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals
And the fog
Became God

Song: TIME IS RUNNING OUT LYRICS/MUSE

I think I'm drowning
asphyxiated
I wanna break this spell
that you've created

you're something beautiful
a contradiction
I wanna play the game
I want the friction

you will be the death of me
you will be the death of me

bury it
I won't let you bury it
I won't let you smother it
I won't let you murder it

our time is running out
our time is running out
you can't push it underground
you can't stop it screaming out

I wanted freedom
bound and restricted
I tried to give you up
but I'm addicted

now that you know I'm trapped sense of elation
you'd never dream of
breaking this fixation

you will squeeze the life out of me

bury it
I won't let you bury it
I won't let you smother it
I won't let you murder it

our time is running out
our time is running out
you can't push it underground
you can't stop it screaming out
how did it come to this?
ooooohh

you will suck the life out of me

bury it
I won't let you bury it
I won't let you smother it
I won't let you murder it

our time is running out
our time is running out
you can't push it underground
you can't stop it screaming out
How did it come to this?
ooooohh

I woke up this morning
I was feeling kind of high
It was me, jesus christ and haile selassie
Selassie said greetings in the name of the most high,
Jah rhastafari,
Christ, took a sip of the amaretto,
Passed it down the table said today Ill be betrayed by one you 12
Disciples
Give me a clue who could do this to you?
The kid on the block who makes less money than you.
Crooked cops pulled up, they offered him 30 pieces of silver
All he got to do is deliver the savior
Right on bergen st. from bad luck to good luck
My cup runneth over, pass it down, guzzle up
The time has arrived, the prophecy will manifest
I saw death, I got scared, butterflies on my chest
Father if possible, pass this cup before me,
But its too late I chose my destiny in gethsemane.
[lauryn]
You see I loved hard once, but the love wasnt returned
I found out the man Id die for, he wasnt even concerned
And time it turned,
He tried to burn me like a perm
Though my eyes saw the deception, my heart wouldnt let me learn
From um, some, dumb woman, was i,
And everytime hed lie, he would cry and inside Id die.
My heart must have died a thousand deaths
Compared myself to toni braxton thought Id never catch my breath
Nothing left, he stole the heart beating from my chest
I tried to call the cops, that type of thief you cant arrest
Pain suppressed, will lead to cardiac arrest
Diamonds deserve diamonds, but he convinced me I was worth less
When my peoples would protest,
I told them mind their business, cause my s*** was complex
More than just the sex
I was blessed, but couldnt feel it like when I was caressed
Id spend nights clutching my breasts overwhelmed by gods test
I was gods best contemplating death with a gillette
But no man is ever worth the paradise manifest
[praz]
Gun-clap shell cap,
Got them crawling on they back
Come through with the fu
They be who the f**k is that
Its unpredictable, when my tongue performs like jujitsu
Cut you with my lyrics, stab you with my pencil
Lethal injection, witness protection
Refugee camps under investigation
Gunshot bursts in all directions
For the wack mcs we read your revelations
Discharge through your pores
Get raw and kill boors
I can capleton when Im on a tour
Some manifest, with slugs in they chest
God bless all the cowboys in the wild wild west

When I read doomer literature, I listen to Tyranny's album, Tides of Awakening as background music which is depressing funeral doom metal. The album came with lyrics booklet but the singing is uncomprehensive low growling.
Tyranny's homepage
Free music sample, from Tides of Awakening album from the record company's webpage The rest of the album is pretty much like the sample.

Dire straits - Telegraph road

A long time ago came a man on a track
Walking thirty miles with a pack on his back
And he put down his load where he thought it was the best
Made a home in the wilderness
He built a cabin and a winter store
And he ploughed up the ground by the cold lake shore
And the other travellers came riding down the track
And they never went further, no, they never went back
Then came the churches then came the schools
Then came the lawyers then came the rules
Then came the trains and the trucks with their loads
And the dirty old track was the telegraph road

Then came the mines - then came the ore
Then there was the hard times then there was a war
Telegraph sang a song about the world outside
Telegraph road got so deep and so wide
Like a rolling river. . .

And my radio says tonight its gonna freeze
People driving home from the factories
Theres six lanes of traffic
Three lanes moving slow. . .

I used to like to go to work but they shut it down
I got a right to go to work but theres no work here to be found
Yes and they say were gonna have to pay whats owed
Were gonna have to reap from some seed thats been sowed
And the birds up on the wires and the telegraph poles
They can always fly away from this rain and this cold
You can hear them singing out their telegraph code
All the way down the telegraph road

You know Id sooner forget but I remember those nights
When life was just a bet on a race between the lights
You had your head on my shoulder you had your hand in my hair
Now you act a little colder like you dont seem to care
But believe in me baby and Ill take you away
From out of this darkness and into the day
From these rivers of headlights these rivers of rain
From the anger that lives on the streets with these names
cos Ive run every red light on memory lane
Ive seen desperation explode into flames
And I dont want to see it again. . .

>from all of these signs saying sorry but were closed
All the way down the telegraph road

NOFX LYRICS

"The Decline"

Where are all the stupid people from?
And how'd they get to be so dumb?
Bred on purple mountain range
Feed amber waves of grains
To lesser human beings, zero feelings

Blame it on
Human nature, mans destiny (mans destiny)
Blame it on the greediocracy (greediocracy)
Fear of God
The fear of change
The fear of truth

Add the Bill of Rights, subtract the wrongs
There's no answers
Memorize and sing star spangled songs
When the questions
Aren't ever asked
Is anybody learning from the past?
We're living in united stagnation

Father what have I done?
I took that .22
A gift to me from you
To bed with me each night
Kept it clean
Polished it well
Cherished every cartridge, every shell

Down, by the creek, under brush, under dirt
There's a carcass of my second kill
Down, by the park, under stone, under pine
There's a carcass of my brother William
Brother where, have you gone to?
I swear, I never thought I could
I see so many times
They told me to shoot straight
Don't pull the trigger, squeeze
That will insure a kill
A kill is what you want
A kill is why we breed

The Christians love their guns
The church and NRA
Pray for their salvations
Prey on the lower faiths

The story book's been read
And every line believed
Curriculum's been set
Logic is a threat
Reason searched and seized

Jerry spent some time in Michigan
A twenty year vacation, after all he had a dime
A dime is worth a lot more in Detroit
A dime in California, a twenty dollar fine

Jerry only stayed a couple months
It's hard to enjoy yourself while bleeding out the ass
Asphyxiation is simple and fast
It beats seventeen fun years of being someone's bitch

Don't think (Stay)
Drink your wine (Home)
Watch the fire burn (Be)
His problems not mine (Safe)
Just be that model citizen

I wish I had a schilling
(For each senseless killing)
For every senseless killing
I'd buy a government
America's for sale
And you can get a good deal on it
(A good deal on it)
And make a healthy profit
Or maybe, tear it apart
Start with assumption
That a million people are smart
Smarter than one

Serotonin's gone
She gave up, drifted away
Sara fled, thought process gone
She left her answering machine on
The greeting left spoken sincere
Messages no one will ever hear

Ten thousand messages a day
A million more transmissions lay
Victims of the laissez faire
Ten thousand voices, a hundred guns
A hundred decibels turns to one
One bullet, one empty head
Now with Serotonin gone

The man who used to speak
Performs a cute routine
Feel a little patronized
Don't feel bad
They found a way inside your head
And you feel a bit misled
It's not that they don't care, yeah

The television's put a thought inside your head
Like a Barry Manilow, jingle
I'd like, to teach the world to sing
In perfect harmony
A symphonic blank stare, yeah
It doesn't make you care (make you care)
Not designed to make you care (make you care)
They're betting you won't care (you won't...)

Place a wager on your greed
A wager on your pride
Why try to beat them when, a million others tried?

We are the whore
Intellectually spayed
We are the queer
Dysfunctionally raised

One more pill to kill the pain
One more pill to kill the pain
One more pill to kill the pain
Living through conformity

One more prayer to keep me safe
One more prayer to keep us warm
One more prayer to keep us safe
There's gonna be a better place

Lost the battle, lost the war
Lost the things worth living for
Lost the will to win the fight
One more pill to kill the pain

Na na na na na
La na na na na
Na na na na na
Na na na na na

The going get tough, the tough get debt
Don't pay attention, pay the rent
Next of kins pay for your sins
A little faith should keep us safe

Save us
The human, existence
Is failing, resistance
Essential, the future
Written off, the odds are
Astronomically against us
Only moron and genius
Would fight a losing battle
Against the super ego
When giving in is so damn comforting

And so we go, on with our lives
We know the truth, but prefer lies
Lies are simple, simple is bliss
Why go against tradition when we can
Admit defeat, live in decline
Be the victim of our own design
The status quo, built on suspect
Why would anyone stick out their neck?

Fellow members of
Club "We've Got Ours"
I'd like to introduce you to our host
He's got his, and I've got mine
Meet the decline

We are the queer
We are the whore
Ammunition
In the class war
We are worker
We love our queen
We sacrifice
We're soilent green

We are the queer
We are the whore
Ammunition
In the class war

ALICIA KEYS LYRICS

"Karma"

Weren't you the one who said that you don't want me anymore
And how you need your space and give the keys back to your door
And how I cried and tried and tried to make you stay with me
And still you said your love was gone and that I had to leave
Now you're Talking bout a family
Now you're saying I complete your dreams
Oh
Now you're sayin I'm your everything
You're confusing me
What you saying to me, don't play wit me, don't play wit me
Cause....

[Chorus:]
What goes around comes around
What goes up must come down
Now who's cryin', desirin' to come back to me
What goes around comes around
What goes up must come down
Now who's cryin, desirin', to come back

I remember when I was sittin home alone
Waitin for you til 3 o'clock in the 'morn
And when you came home you'd always have some sorry excuse
Half explaining to me like I'm just some kind of a fool
I sacrificed the things I wanted just to do things for you
But when it's time to do for me
You never come thru
Now you wanna be up under me
Now you have so much to say to me
Now you wanna make time for me
Whatcha doin to me, you're confusin me
Don't play with me don't play with me cause

[Repeat Chorus 2x]

I remember when I was sittin home alone
Waitin for you till 3 o'clock in the 'morn
Night after night knowing something goin on
Wasn't long before I be gone
Lord knows it wasn't easy believe me
Never thought you'd be the one that would deceive me
And never do what you're supposed to do
No need to approach me fool, cuz I'm over you

The Living End:
"Black Cat"

Is it any wonder
That you have fallen down on your knees
You better take cover
It's gonna spread around like a disease
Now you're going under
You got caught running from the scene
You better take cover
It's gonna take you down like a disease

Gonna make you suffer
Face up to your responsibilities
Is it any wonder
That you've fallen down on your knees
On your knees
On your knees

And there's a black cat waiting for the moment to strike
Crossing your path at the dead of midnight
A black cat waiting for the moment to strike

I know you can't explain
Why you take more than you need
Looking for someone to blame
But you are blinded by what you see

The seeds you've sown
Prove to be nothing more than weeds
And the life you've known
Won't be the same as it used to be
Used to be
Used to be
What you get ain't always what you see

And there's a black cat waiting for the moment to strike
Crossing your path at the dead of midnight
A black cat waiting for the moment to strike

And there's a black cat waiting for the moment to strike
Maybe next time you'd better think twice
And there's a black cat waiting for the moment to strike

And there's a black cat waiting for the moment to strike
Crossing your path at the dead of midnight
A black cat waiting for the moment to strike

And there's a black cat waiting for the moment to strike
Maybe next time you'd better think twice
A black cat waiting for the moment to strike

========

I think it's the perfect metaphor for what's gonna happen. Very symbolic. The italicised part is particularly potent.

Rainbow-It Can't Happen Here

Contaminated fish and micro chips
huge supertankers on Arabian trips
oily propaganda from the leaders' lips
all about the future
there's people over here, people over there
everybody's looking for a little more air
crossing all the borders just to take their share
planning for the future

and we're so abused, and we're so confused
it's easy to believe that someone's gonna light the fuse
can't happen here, can't happen here
all that you fear they're telling you, can't happen here

Supersonic planes for a holiday boom
Rio de Janeiro in an afternoon
people out of work but there's people on the moon
looking for the future
concrete racktracks nationwide
juggernauts carving up the countryside
cars by the million on a one way ride
using up the future

and we're so abused, and we're so confused
it's easy to believe that someone's gonna light the fuse
can't happen here, can't happen here
all that you fear they're telling you, can't happen here

Satellites spying for the CIA
the KGB and the men in grey
wonder if I'm gonna see another day
somewhere in the future
We got everything we need for a peaceful time
take what you want but you can't take mine
everybody's living on the Siegfried line
worried 'bout the future
and we're so abused, and we're so confused
it's so easy to believe that someone's gonna light it
easy to believe someone's gonna light the fuse
can't happen here, can't happen here
all that you fear they're telling you, can't happen here can it?
Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work. ~ Thomas A. Edison ~

With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
But there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my mind [3x]

Way out in the water
See it swimmin'

I was swimmin' in the Carribean
Animals were hiding behind the rocks
Except the little fish
But they told me, he swears
Tryin' to talk to me to me to me

Where is my mind [3x]

Way out in the water
See it swimmin' ?

With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Your head will collapse
If there's nothing in it
And you'll ask yourself

Where is my mind [3x]

Ooooh
With your feet in the air and your head on the ground
Ooooh
Try this trick and spin it, yeah
Ooooh
Ooooh

Over Now - Alice In Chains

Lyrics - Jerry Cantrell

Yeah, its over now, but I can breathe somehow
When its all worn out, Id rather go without

You know its been on my mind
Could you stand right there
Look me straight in the eye and say
That its over now

We pay our debt sometime

Well its over now, yet I can see somehow
When its all gone wrong, its hard to be so strong

You know its been on my mind
Could you stand right there
Look me straight in the eye and say
That its over now

We pay our debt sometime
Yeah, we pay our debt sometime
We pay our debt sometime
Yeah, we pay our debt sometime

Guess its over now, I seem alive somehow
When its out of sight, just wait and do your time

You know its been on my mind
Could I stand right here
Look myself in the eye and say
That its over now

We pay our debt sometime
Yeah, we pay our debt sometime
We pay our debt sometime
Yeah, we pay our debt sometime

Tool - Right in Two

Angels on the sideline
Puzzled and amused
Why did Father give these humans free will?
Now they're all confused

Don't these talking monkeys know that
Eden has enough to go around?
Plenty in this holy garden, silly old monkeys
Where's the one, you're bound to divide it
Right in two

Angels on the sideline
Baffled and confused
Father blessed them all with reason
And this is what they choose.
Monkey killing monkey killing monkey
Over pieces of the ground.

Silly monkeys given thumbs
They forge a blade
And where there's one they're bound to divide it
Right in two
Right in two

Monkey killing monkey killing monkey
Over pieces of the ground
Silly monkeys given thumbs
They make a club
And beat their brother down.
How they survive so misguided is a mystery
Repugnant is a creature who would
Squander the ability to lift an eye to heaven
Conscious of his fleeting time here

Cut it all right in two
Cut it all right in two
Cut it all right in two
Cut it all right in two

Fight over the clouds, over wind, over sky
Fight over life, over blood, over air and
Fight over love, over sun, over another
Fight all the time, over what?
Over lies and

Angels on the sideline again
Been so long with patience and reason
Angels on the sideline again
Wondering when this tug of war will end

Cut it all right in two
Cut it all right in two
Cut it all right in two
Right in two.
Right in two.

Zero 7....from the album "The Garden"

"Waiting To Die"

It's just a day like any other day
A beautiful day for an accident, let's say
Yes it's just a day, like any other day
Just one step closer to the end of the buffet
La la la la la la
La la la la, 'cause we're waiting to die

Now it's a good time for a tasty glass of wine
Let's not burden our minds with carbon dioxide
And everyone hurry, don't sit and abide
Yes, everyone stand up, we're running out of time
La la la la la la
La la la la, 'cause we're waiting here to die

Look what a terrible mess that we've made
The sun beats us down as we search for the shade
And, yes, it is true, death is everyone's fate
But we've made it this far, it's time to celebrate
La la la la la
La la la la, 'cause we're waiting here to die
La la la la la
La la la la, 'cause we're waiting here to die

And the old favorite from the Dead Kennedys...

"Winnebago Warrior"

Roughin' it in the great outdoors
Guidebooks tell us where to go
Winnebago Warrior

Slow down traffic climbing hills
30 gallons to the mile
Honey, quick, the polaroid

[Chorus]
Winnebago Warrior
Brave as old John Wayne
Winnebago Warrior
A true yankee pioneer

Stop at Stuckey's for a meal
Blab all day on the CB
Winnebago Warrior

Littered campgrounds, folding chairs
Feed Doritos to the bears
Honey, quick, the polaroid

[Chorus]

Kill some fish down by the creek
Hang their picture by the sink
Show your grandson who's the boss

Tie your two toat-goats to the front
U-Haul trailer full of souvenirs
That you buy along the way

[Chorus]
Punk is not really a style of music. It was more like a state of mind.

I use to listen to this on tape as I harvested 200 acres of wheat (with another 4 combines) every day.

It wasn't until I divorced that I realized the impact of both the song, the talking heads, and my xwife's delusion.

Missed the Boat
Modest Mouse
While we're on the subject, could we change the subject now?
I was knocking on your ears, don't worry, you were always out
Lookin towards the future, we were beggin for the past
Well we know we had the good things, but those never seem to last
Oh please just last

Everyone's unhappy, everyone's ashamed
Well we all just got caught lookin at somebody else's page
Well nothin ever went quite exactly as we planned
Our ideas held no water but we used them like a dam

Oh and we carried it all so well
As if we got a new position
Oh and I laugh all the way to hell
I say yes this is a fine promotion
Oh and I laugh all the way to hell

Of course everyone goes crazy over such and such and such
We made ourselves a pillar but we just used it as a crutch
We were certainly uncertain, at least I'm pretty sure I am
Well we didn't need the water but we just built that good god damn

Oh and I know this of myself
I assume as much for other people
Oh and I know this of myself
We've listened more to life's end gong
than the sound of life's sweet bells

Was it ever worth it, was there all that much to gain?
Well we knew we'd miss the boat and we'd already missed the plane
We didn't read the invite, we just danced at our own wake
All our favorites were a'playing so we could shake shake shake shake shake

Tiny curtains opened
And we heard the tiny clap of little hands
A tiny man would tell a little joke
And get a tiny laugh from all them folks
Sittin drifting round on bubbles then
Thinkin it was us that carried them
When we finally got it figured out
That we had truly missed the boat

Oh and we carried it all so well
As if we got a new position
Oh and we owned all the tools ourselves
Without the skills to make a shelf with
Oh what useless tools ourselves

Ok I know it's not cool for me to admit I like this song, but it really does strike a peak oil cord with me, and I heard it around the time I found out about peak oil. I always imagine myself in a post collapse world with this song.

Somewhere only we know - Keane.

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete
Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

I came across a fallen tree
I felt the branches of it looking at me?
Is this the place we used to love?
Is this the place that I've been dreaming of?

Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?

Oh simple thing where have you gone
I'm getting old and I need something to rely on
So tell me when you're gonna let me in
I'm getting tired and I need somewhere to begin

And if you have a minute why don't we go
Talk about it somewhere only we know?
This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
So why don't we go

This could be the end of everything
So why don't we go
Somewhere only we know?
