Music with lyrics:

ATB - I Don't Wanna Stop

Hey there I hope everything's alright
I forgot to call you in the winter time
Like the waves crash coming right
I've got feelings pouring down against the ceiling
While you try to trace which side I'm on
When the wind blows between us
High above this empty feeling
I Don't Wanna Stop
I Don't Wanna Stop
When the waves crash beneath us
Down below this empty feeling
I Don't Wanna Stop
I Don't Wanna Stop

Can we dance like everything's alright
Can we trade the day in for the night
Like a homesick tunnelling
I'm not breathing till I leave with you believing
I don't wanna trace another song

When the wind blows between us
High above this empty feeling
I Don't Wanna Stop
I Don't Wanna Stop
When the waves crash beneath us
Down below this empty feeling
I Don't Wanna Stop
I Don't Wanna Stop

I Don't Wanna Stop
I Don't Wanna Stop

When the wind blows between us
High above this empty feeling
I Don't Wanna Stop
I Don't Wanna Stop
When the waves crash beneath us
Down below this empty feeling
I Don't Wanna Stop
I Don't Wanna Stop

PUBLIC ENEMY-Can't do nothing for ya man

Runnin' for your life, by the knife
Runnin' from your wife ... yipes
You should've stuck with home
Your mind to blow your dome
It was you that chose your due
You built a maze you can't get through
I tried to help you all I can
Now I can't do nuttin' for you man

I can't do nuttin' for ya man
You got all these people on your back now
I can't do nuttin' for ya man
Flavor flav got problems of his own
I can't do nuttin' for you man

Go lean on shells answer man
I can't do nuttin' for ya man
You jumped out of the jelly into a jam

Make ya love the wrong instead of right
Not a thief cat burglar through the night
cop told your girl her name was Shirl
About a rooftop crime to steal her pearls
Oozy down the bullets in the gun

Just microwave themselves a ton
The you tried to help them all they can
But they couldn't do nuttin' for ya man

I can't do nuttin' for ya man
They couldn't do nuttin' for ya man

Flavor Flav is the sun
Public Enemy number one
Gotcha runnin' from the gun (pow)
Of a brain that weighs a ton
Can't face my facts that's on the shelf
Cause you want a hand out for your wealth
Eatin' welfare turkey out of the can
I can't do nuttin' for ya man

I can't do nuttin' for ya man
You want six dollars for what?
I can't do nuttin' for ya man
You better man kiss my but
I can't do nuttin' for ya man
I'm busy tryin' to do for me
I can't do nuttin' for ya man
That's the way the ball bounces gee
Bass for your face, kick that shit
If you give a man a fish you will have kept him from hunger for a day. If you teach a man to fish he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

A Beautiful Lie Lyrics
Artist:30 Seconds to Mars

Lie awake in bed at night
And think about your life
Do you want to be different? (Different...)
Try to let go of the truth
The battles of your youth
’Cause this is just a game

It's a beautiful lie
It's a perfect denial
Such a beautiful lie to believe in
So beautiful, beautiful lie makes me

It's time to forget about the past
To wash away what happened last (happened last)
Hide behind an empty face
Don't ask too much, just say
'Cause this is just a game

It's a beautiful lie
It's a perfect denial
Such a beautiful lie to believe in
So beautiful, beautiful lie makes me

Lie....Beautiful

Everyone's looking at me
I'm running around in circles (Baby)
A quiet desperation's building higher
I've got to remember this is just a game

(LLLLLIIIIIIIIEEEEEEE)So beautiful, beautiful...

It's a beautiful lie ---
It's a perfect denial ---(So beautiful, beautiful)
Such a beautiful lie to believe in ---
So beautiful, beautiful lie makes me

An End Has A Start
Editors

I don’t think that it’s
Gonna rain again today
There’s a devil at your side
But an angel on her way

Someone hit the light
‘Cause there’s more here to be seen
When you caught my eye
I saw everywhere I’d been
And wanna go to

You came on your own
That’s how you’ll leave
With hope in your hands
And air to breathe

I won’t disappoint you
As you fall apart
Some things should be simple
Even an end has a start

Someone hit the light
‘Cause there’s more here to be seen
When you caught my eye
I saw everywhere I’d been
And wanna go to

You came on your own
That’s how you’ll leave
With hope in your hands
And air to breathe

You lose everything
By the end
Still my broken limbs
You find time to mend

More and more people
I know are getting ill
Pull something good from
The ashes now be still

You came on your own
That’s how you’ll leave
With hope in your hands
And air to breathe

You lose everything
By the end
Still my broken limbs
You choose to mend

You came on your own
That’s how you’ll leave
You came on your own
That’s how you’ll leave

You came on your own
You came on your own

And got to love bizarre British music videos.

Hello everybody, music is one of the few things that helps me with the depression of PO, here are some of my personal favourites.

Buffalo Springfield-What's goin down
David Bowie- Hearts Filthy lesson
Disturbed- Get down with the sickness
Gary Jules- Mad World
Johnny Cash- When the man comes around
Pearl jam- Do the evolution
Powerman 5000- Drop the bombshell
Radiohead- The national anthem
Any Rage against the machine is great.
Alabama 3- Woke up this morning {sopranos theme}
Agent provocateur-Red tape
Eminem-Mosh
And one that is recent that i was impressed with Match Box 20-How far we've come.

Great suggestions everybody i cant wait to listen to them.

Sheryl Crow's new album - to be released Feb 5th

Gasoline
(Lyrics: Crow Music: Crow, Trott, Bottrell)

Way back in the year of 2017
The sun was growing hotter
And oil was way beyond its peak
When crazy Hector Johnson broke into a refinery
And the black gold started flowing
Just like Boston tea

It was the summer of the riots
And London sat in sweltering heat
And the gangs of Mini Coopers
Took the battle to the streets
But when the creed was handed down
For no more trucks and no more cars
They threw cans of petrol through the windows at Scotland Yard

Gasoline
Will be free, will be free
Gasoline
Will be free, will be free

When the Mounties stormed the palace of the Saudi family
They held them up for ransom
Without disturbing their high tea
But their getaway was shaky
They stalled in the Riyadh streets
Cause you can't make it very far
When your tank is on empty

The final can of gasoline was loaded on a truck
And driven through the streets of Agra to the palace aquaduct
You see, all the majesty of worship that once adorned these fatal halls
Was just a target to the angry
As they blew up the Taj Mahal

Gasoline
Will be free, will be free
Gasoline
will be free, will be free

Gary ran a market way down in Tennessee
Where all the farmers got together and talked about this great country
But when the government turned its back on farming
Man, what I hear
They dragged the pumps out of the ground
With a big vintage John Deere

I've got soldiers on my payroll
Standing guard on my front drive
Snipers on the roof poised at those
Who don't want me alive
Cause they audited my taxes
My family under threat
Cause I've got a message and a megaphone
And I'll scream it to the death

Gasoline
Will be free, will be free
Gasoline
Will be free, will be free

You got the farms in Argentina
Making fuel from sugar cane
You got the bastards in Washington
Afraid of popping the greed vain
Cause the money's in the pipeline
And pipeline's running dry
And we'll be the last to recognize
Where there’s shit there’s always flies

James Taylor "Traffic Jam"

Damn this traffic jam
How I hate to be late
It hurts my motor to go so slow
Damn this traffic jam
Time I get home my supperll be cold
Damn this traffic jam

Well I left my job about 5 oclock
It took fifteen minutes go three blocks
Just in time to stand in line
With a freeway looking like a parking lot

- chorus -

Now I almost had a heart attack
Looking in my rear view mirror
I saw myself the next car back
Looking in the rear view mirror
bout to have a heart attack
I said

- chorus -

Now when I die I dont want no coffin
I thought about it all too often
Just strap me in behind the wheel
And bury me with my automobile

- chorus -

Damn...

Now I used to think that I was cool
Running around on fossil fuel
Until I saw what I was doing
Was driving down the road to ruin

Very nice. I see that we like some of the same sad songs. I'm sure some of you folks think that it's good to use music to explore personal pain in order to go through it? It does seem to be a common experience that changes over time.

Let me kindly direct you all to "Video Peace" in the HOF. It's a lively place, and at times, very erudite. Sometimes, just plain f-ed up, but definitely for music lovers.

Here's one from me.

Sound of Silence

Hello darkness, my old friend,
Ive come to talk with you again,
Because a vision softly creeping,
Left its seeds while I was sleeping,
And the vision that was planted in my brain
Still remains
Within the sound of silence.

In restless dreams I walked alone
Narrow streets of cobblestone,
neath the halo of a street lamp,
I turned my collar to the cold and damp
When my eyes were stabbed by the flash of
A neon light
That split the night
And touched the sound of silence.

And in the naked light I saw
Ten thousand people, maybe more.
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
And no one deared
Disturb the sound of silence.

Fools said i,you do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you,
Take my arms that I might reach you.
But my words like silent raindrops fell,
And echoed
In the wells of silence

And the people bowed and prayed
To the neon God they made.
And the sign flashed out its warning,
In the words that it was forming.
And the signs said, the words of the prophets
Are written on the subway walls
And tenement halls.
And whisperd in the sounds of silence.
Nothing is more dangerous than a man with nothing left to lose but has everything left to gain.

GUNS' N' ROSES LYRICS

"Estranged"

When you're talkin to yourself
And nobody's home
You can fool yourself
You came in this world alone
(Alone)

So nobody ever told you baby
How it was gonna be
So what'll happen to you baby
Guess we'll have to wait and see
ONE, TWO

Old at heart but I'm only 28
And I'm much too young
To let love break my heart
Young at heart but it's getting much too late
To find ourselves so far apart

I don't know how you're s'posed
To find me lately
An what more could tou ask from me
How could you say that I never needed you
When you took everything
Said you took everything from me

Young at heart an it gets so hard to wait
When no one I know can seem to help me now
Old at heart but I musn't hesitate
If I'm to find my own way out

Still talkin' to myself
and nobody's home
(Alone)

So nobody ever told us baby
How it was gonna be
So what'll happen to us baby
Guess we'll have to wait and see

When I find out all the reasons
Maybe I'll find another way
Find another day
With all the changing seasons of my life
Maybe I'll get it right next time
An now that you've been broken down
Got your head out of the clouds
You're back down on the ground
And you don't talk so loud
An you don't walk so proud
Any more, and what for

Well I jumped into the river
Too many times to make it home
I'm out here on my own, an drifting all alone
If it doesn't show give it time
To read between the lines
'Cause I see the storm getting closer
And the waves they get so high
Seems everything We've ever known's here
Why must it drift away and die

I'll never find anyone to replace you
Guess I'll have to make it thru, this time- Oh this time
Without you

I knew the storm was getting closer
And all my friends said I was high
But everything we've ever known's here
I never wanted it to die

Some music always applies, peak oil or no peak oil.
Some of my favorites:

Oingo Boingo, Nothing to fear
Tangerine Dream, Grind
Pink Floyd, In the Flesh, Run Like Hell
Public Enemy, Welcome to the Terrordome
Weber and Rice, Jesus Must Die
Offspring, Not the One
Joan Baez, Rejoice in the Sun
So Long, And Thanks for All the Fish
Bob Fosse, Bye Bye Life
And then there's my namesake (Philip Glass)

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('RacerJace', 'I')'ve always been a music lover and have had different music mark various times in my life like a soundtrack to my world and my experiences. Every time I hear certain songs I instantly reminisce of the time when that song had imprinted itself on my mind and what I was doing, what emotions I felt. It's quite profound.. for me anyway.

So I'm curious... what are people listening to as they discover and study the meaning of peak oil and what the future holds.?

If I was going to have a soundtrack to peak oil, I think I'd pick
Gustav Holst - The Planets Op.32 Mars, the Bringer of War

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NeQ1h6lzLI

because there is a feeling of foreboding in Holst's bleakest of all tone poems, that seems appropriate. IMHO a song with lyrics just would not capture the complexity of the problem of peak oil, and lyrics to any song to me does not convey the inevitable crisis and despair many people in the developed will have when they realize how peak oil is going to change life as they know it!

Classical music also has an advantage in that, it does not have to be translated.

Coldplay- Violet Hill

Was a long and dark December
From the rooftops i remember
There was snow
White snow

Clearly i remember
From the windows they were watching
While we froze down below

When the future's architectured
By a carnival of idiots on show
You'd better lie low

If you love me
Won't you let me know?

Was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals
And the fog
Became God

Priests clutched onto bibles
And went out to fit their rifles
And the cross was held aloft

Bury me in honor
When i'm dead and hit the ground
A love back home unfolds

If you love me
Won't you let me know?

(Guitar Solo)

I don't want to be a soldier
With the captain of some sinking ship
With snow, far below

So if you love me
Why'd you let me go?

I took my love down to violet hill
There we sat in snow
All that time she was silent still

So if you love me
Won't you let me know?

If you love me,
Won't you let me know?
Was a long and dark December
When the banks became cathedrals
And the fog
Became God

This is pretty gloomy:

Simon and Garfunkel, The Sun is Burning

http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJWUrUYGs ... re=related

The sun is burning in the sky
Strands of clouds go slowly drifting by
In the park the lazy breeze
Are joining in the flowers, among the trees
And the sun burns in the sky

Now the sun is in the West
Little kids go home to take their rest
And the couples in the park
Are holdin' hands and waitin' for the dark
And the sun is in the West

Now the sun is sinking low
Children playin' know it's time to go
High above a spot appears
A little blossom blooms and then draws near
And the sun is sinking low

Now the sun has come to Earth
Shrouded in a mushroom cloud of death
Death comes in a blinding flash
Of hellish heat and leaves a smear of ash
And the sun has come to Earth

Now the sun has disappeared
All is darkness, anger, pain and fear
Twisted, sightless wrecks of men
Go groping on their knees and cry in pain
And the sun has disappeared

.....

By the way, in case no one has mentioned this yet - there is also an earlier thread on this topic:
