Ebola has a 99.5% fatality rate, and is very communicable. Given that there are about 6.5 billion people on the planet, there would be an estimated 32,500,000 survivors planet wide. This would literally be the death blow to humanity, with virtually no chance of survival. The effects upon the human population would be far greater than that of a global thermonuclear war. Yes, there would be no destroyed cities and fatal levels of radiation, but the devistation to humanity would be far worse. About the only scenario that I can come up worse than this is to biologically engineer Ebola to transmit like the common cold. It it became airborne, it would not be reliant on direct contact for transmitting. This unleashed would truly be TEOTWAWKI. Also, novels and films have been already done about a release of a super virus. There was Stephen King's "The Stand", "12 Monkeys", and "Outbreak".

now if I were a terrorist I would (a) choose my time well when to strike-say when large scale war games are on with the scenario of hijacked planes (b) fire a missile at the Pentagon and call it a 757 (c) remote fly a converted fuel tanker into the WTC and call it ft175 (d) blame someone else- lets think- Arabs seem a good choice. (e) resist all attempts to find the truth out by getting rid of the evidence fast. Maybe I could get the same guys who cleared the Oklahoma City site to clear the WTC site- and lets see- I could send it all to China as scrap. Even better I could get my business partners to have an investigation.

oh I think you left out a few things in your plan though marco.. 1) place put orders for airline stocks (specificly united & american airlines) so when the stock goes down after the attacks, you will make millions (make sure you make all your put options in the weeks before 9/11 so people can see the put orders were 60 X's above normal levels, if you wanna play it right). 2) hire a government agency (the CIA would work good) to supress any warns of the attacks, so the government doesn't look bad after it happends. 3) buy out all the major media and have them in the palm of your hand, so you can constantly feed biased coverage of the "war on terror" to the American population, and supress any truth (evidence) of your involvment in the attacks. 4) start a war against these 'terrorists' in which your close buddies, family, and even the attackers (the Saudi Bin Ladin group) have all invested in.. this way, people who invested in military and construction companies that are awarded bids in the war will make cash (billions $$)

If I were a terrorist I would'nt stop at put options. I think I would get my friends in the big hedge funds, like-lets say Warren Buffet as a hypothetical- to trade out of the major insurance stocks so that they fall an average of 25% before 9-11. No sense getting your fingers burnt when the insurance claims roll in.

Oh, yeah- almost forgot. I would send out some anthrax as a little warning to anyone with silly thoughts like truth and justice.

Then I would scam an election just to make sure- and have a bit of a purge of unbelievers. But maybe thats going to far. After all, who could possibly believe this paln could ever work??

marco.. arn't you kinda worried about the government finding out about your little plot? I mean, our government would NEVER want any Americans killed in a tragic event like such.. I mean, if our government saw people planning an attack like this, funding it, writing about it, and even warning them about it, Im sure our country would do SOMETHING other then ignore it, allow it to happen and even help the 'terrorists' .. you know, becuase we are sending our troops to fight a war on 'terror' surely we need to fight the terrorists. but who are really the real terrorits? The ones who plan them, fund them, allow them to happen and supress the truth? Or the ones who fly the jet into the building?

thanks for the warning! I wouldn't want the gov to think I was serious here. After all its just a hypothetical-right. (if the NSA is reading this- I want to tell you guys I think Bush is just great. And Arnie in 2008 would be even better. I mean I just love that guy). I know the US gov would NEVER countenance the murder of its citizens. It just isn't done. After all, we all know some Arab guy with a funny name did it. We know he has nothing to do with the Bush family (who by the way would never,ever invest in a company like the Carlyle group).

Nah! If I were a terrorist I would grow a long beard and hang out in an Afghan cave with my dialysis machine and cell phone. I'd organize the whole thing from there- and I wouldn't hire skilled pros either. I'd get some losers who can't fly to hijack some planes with paper clips as weapons. Then I would make a video and tell everyone I did it.

Then to be really, really clever like the evil mastermind I am (in theory) I would fake lots of incriminating evidence which points the blame at the US gov itself. Brilliant, huh!. Then I would just hang around in my mud hut and make the odd home video-well becaause thats the kind of guy I am.

Oh- then I would get my brother to invest in the Carlyle group and make lots of money out of invading Iraq-because I'm an evil bastard and the Bush family are not.

On a serious note: check out John Joseph Kennedy as a candidate. His bio sounds like something out of the Da Vinci Code. have a read and you will see what I mean. if he gets serious he can borrow my flack jacket.

Can't you be happy just existing? Why must you justify your existence? I have never understood why people spend so much time trying to answer that question. The only moral conundrum with my philosophy is that if I don’t particularly care why I exist or what my purpose is, I could go on a murderous rampage without worrying about the consequences after death. If everyone adopted Nihilism, I’d head for the hills. But until that day, I’m doing just fine. I say let everyone do whatever they want as long as they don't harm others. I can't set off a nuclear bomb because I will harm the rest of humanity. I can have a factory that pollutes but I must pay the cost of that pollution up front. Under this system (a mix of Ayn Rand and Ralph Nader) big government isn't really needed. Welfare, income taxes, Social "Security", and even most of the military most disappear. The transition from what we have today to what we should have (under my idealology) is nearly impossible because of the current infrastructure and social set up.

Therefore, Peak Oil might be a could thing. It will wipe away the old way of doing things and maybe in my region we will pick the path of least resistence. We might choose to live peacefully together without having to use (as much) force. That's my hope. A world without force would be nice. It's not very realistic, and I know that. But let's be honest, this conversation is not very realistic.
