$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hat would make a good poll - what would you do with a $5k check from the "Fed"?
****Current Wish List****
Stainless hand water pump for deep wells, plus pipe and install hardware: ~$2k
48" PTO Rototiller for my small Yanmar diesel tractor '-- $1500
Portable diesel generator -- ~$1400.
Saving up but am having a hard time deciding what order to purchase these items.
Can't buy them all at once. Wife thinks generator best short term purchase, if disruptions in the near future are minor; she thinks the probability of minor disruptions is higher than major (I agree with that) at least in the short term view. The generator can keep my freezer running and run my well pump in a short term crisis -- not a total collapse.
I think water pump setup is the most important... Maslow's Hierarchy and all. But, if there are no major disruptions in the next two years, then all I have is a fancy item I don't use sitting on a shelf in my basement.
OTOH, the PTO tiller would be nice because I could greatly expand my personal food production on short notice if something changed WRT food prices or availability (which is also possible in the near future).
I've been wrestling with this for the last 6 months. Weighing probabilities and trying to gauge the likelihood of different possible (even likely) events that could impair my ability to obtain water and food with current means. All three items on my wish list are useful to varying degrees in different scenarios.
Decisions, decisions...
If they give me a $5k stimulus check then my current problem will be solved.
Sorry for going off-topic... Mods please delete this post if it is too far out in left field.
