The flip side is though, having a cell instead of a land line can be cheaper. And it is certainly cheaper than before cells and cable were giving the telephone companies good competition.

I still remember spending 50$ or more every month in the 90s on phone service. If you actually took the time to speak with your family and friends elsewhere, then the bill could easily be 100$. So we simply didn't call home, didn't keep in touch.

In that environment, it is way cheaper for my wife and I simply to have a 59.00 a month nationwide family plan.

If you end up with two PDA smartphone plans and a landline at home, well then your bill is gonna be like 250 bucks. Not economically efficient.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Roy', 'T')he idea that everyone HAS to have a cellphone is ludicrous IMHO.

It is probably one of the most successful marketing schemes in history, perhaps second only to the idea that SUVs are safe and every responsible parent must have one to protect their brood.

How did those of us over the age of 20, manage to survive childhood and our teenaged years, even thrive, without a personal communicator attached to us at all times?

The horror!!!

After recieving 59 emails and 17 calls on my Blackberry during work hours yesterday, each demanding immediate and full attention :-x , I am ready to smash the fcuking thing into a million pieces.

THAT would feel really good right about now.

As I look around at people from every economic strata staring at their communicators, I often think "The average cellphone bill is about $60/month". Look at all that money being made, and for what? A little extra bit of convenience?

Successful marketing indeed.

You're right on, Roy. How did we ever survive?

My hubby has a work phone that is attached to him 24/7 (pretty much, it's by the bedside when he's sleeping). Before the cell phone era, he could at least claim to have not been at home if he missed a call! Now, he has to answer at all times and be ready to go at all times. It really stinks. :x

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('sihmei', 'T')hankfully these bloody things will be the first things to go in the future. They are high energy, high entropy, high complexity and will quickly fail... last to arrive, first to leave.

High energy? Really?

I don't doubt it. But I said average.

I administer the cellphone contract for all my company's employees so equipped.

Verizon's minimum 450 min/month plan is ~$50 per month. Add in a few taxes and incidental usage charges and you are there.

Blackberry/Pda? $75

Add features like unlimited texting, insurance and stuff, it can easily get to $100.

Maybe I should have said $50 for an average.

Not counting trac-phones.

When I had a roomate two years ago, I noticed she was perpetually hooked to her cellphone. I remember one day when my cell phone rang and I didn't ran to it to take the call.
She asked me : "Why don't you answer? You have a phone call!"
I just said : "When I eat, I hate to be disturbed."
She stared at me with round eyes, probably thinking I'm crazy. Nevermind...

Escape From The Zombie Food Court

Unread postby deMolay » Sat 18 Apr 2009, 08:24:20

When we use the ATM pecking the buttons and waiting for money to fall out, we are just like chickens pecking at buttons and waiting for corn. Good one Joe. http://www.joebageant.com/joe/2009/04/escape-from-the-zombie-food-court.html

Science ponders 'zombie attack'

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('BBC', 'I')f zombies actually existed, an attack by them would lead to the collapse of civilisation unless dealt with quickly and aggressively.

That is the conclusion of a mathematical exercise carried out by researchers in Canada. They say only frequent counter-attacks with increasing force would eradicate the fictional creatures.

The scientific paper is published in a book - Infectious Diseases Modelling Research Progress.

In books, films, video games and folklore, zombies are undead creatures, able to turn the living into other zombies with a bite. But there is a serious side to the work...

    1/2 oz. Creme de Almond
    1 oz. Rum, light
    1/2 oz. Rum, overproof/151 proof
    1/2 oz. Triple Sec
    1 1/2 oz. Orange Juice
    1 1/2 oz. Sour Mix
    1 whole Cherries/Maraschinos

Shake everything except the 151 rum in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into a collins glass over ice and float the 151 on top. Garnish with a cherry. Serve to Penultimatemanstanding. Make sure he drinks it.

AyWalla, you have a Zombie!

I like this better. :)

Man carrying assault weapon attends Obama protest

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'P')HOENIX (AP) - About a dozen people carrying guns, including one with a military-style rifle, milled among protesters outside the convention center where President Barack Obama was giving a speech Monday—the latest incidents in which protesters have openly displayed firearms near the president.

Gun-rights advocates say they're exercising their constitutional right to bear arms and protest, while those who argue for more gun control say it could be a disaster waiting to happen.

Phoenix police said the gun-toters at Monday's event, including the man carrying an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle slung over his shoulder, didn't need permits. No crimes were committed, and no one was arrested.

Remember how people protesting Bush were herded into chain link "free speech zones" and ejected from events for t-shorts and bumper stickers?

Are we going to see fresh interest in 6.5 mm Carcano carbines?

If someone shoots Obama, I think a lot of people will blame the GOP, and it's not going to be pretty. Maybe not violent, but every GOP candidate will hounded by protesters carrying signs saying things like "assassins." I guess conservatives would then be provoked to violence by those signs, and god forbid, the dreaded paper mache puppet heads.
