$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('DrBang', '
')The right wingers can rant all they want. The left wingers can do the same. In short order though, we will have the answer. It doesn't really matter to me that I convince these people. How it all unfolds will define whether we have done the right things to reduce the vulnerablity of our respective families from the in coming chaos.

What then? That is the question!

Well said.

I also try to stay out of these arguments. there is nothing to be gained. I already lack time and energy for more primary concerns. People will blame who they decide to blame. The 'left' has been usurped and severely poisoned by truckloads of fantasy and silly nonsense regularly dumped on us by the mass media and the rest of the developed worlds PC diversity-loving overweight liberal culture killers. Mass immigration. Affirmative action. Jus soli. Liberals craving war. Conservatives craving a socially destructive widening of wealth and incomes. The list of the sheer stupidity is endless!

State ownership of the primary means of production, banking, insurance, medicine ... etc... will be the only sensible manner in which to manage the coming post peak decline. Everyone knows this. Capitalism is inherently incapable of this task because it requires growth to function and that leaves no other system. None. That's common sense. All the modern madness associated with the word 'left' is cheap energy based insanity.

Old school Marxism will rise again! Mark my words!

Capitalism was preceded by centuries of Kingly divine rights, it was a radical development from the then notions of human society. But like the system that preceded it, capitalism carries with it the seeds of its on NEGATION. Consequently, whether capitalism is ultimately evil or run by reptilian Illuminati is not the core issue. That issue ultimately rests on the material consequences of its globalisation.

That they will include the destruction of the Western labour premium is a given. That they will be accompanied by the extinction of large swathes of the Western middle class is a given. Capital only tolerates those costs necessary for the preservation of its growth dynamic, whether they be the covert labour premiums we in the West have grown accustomed to over the many decades of the Cold War, or the more recent swingeing cuts that are increasingly a backdrop to the new globalisation.

It is against this functions that Marx contemplated socio economy. This is not an easy exercise as long as one brings subjectivity to it.

Amazing! You banged the trash cans and only a handful of whackjobs have scurried out (self included). The demographics here must have changed quite a bit. Seems "leftist whackjobs" are almost extinct, harsh daylight, reality, and a declining economy may do them in. Where have all the leftist whackjobs gone?

Why they are out chanting of course!

"Yes We Can, Yes We Can, Yes We Can.....I do, I do, I do believe."

All in a vain effort to try and keep up their moral as "The One" , the bringer of HopeNchange, turns out to be the biggest disaster since Nero!!

So much for the affirmative action president and still another validation of the Peter Principle.

I don't know about the "leftist whack jobs" but I've decided to leave the Republican party, for Libertarian. I've pretty much been a Libertarian all my life anyway, I just voted Republican because they could win more elections but with the way the party is situated now it is time to move on. Government should provide for the common defense and promote the general welfare and that is about it.

When Clinton was in office the right-wing whack jobs yelled the loudest, then when Bush came in, the left wing whack jobs screamed their lungs out, now that Obama is in power it's the right wing whack jobs turn again. Of course, maybe the fact that the more whacked left-wing delusions didn't come true--Bush didn't cancel elections, a black man was elected president, 9/11 wasn't an inside job--took some of the wind out of their sails.

Peak Oil is a doomer issue.

I suspect that a large portion of the "leftist whackjobs" were or are still moderately attached to the Obama personality cult.

Doom, as a political tool, is only really useful if you are in the opposition position.

Its hard to rally and cheer, "WHOOOOT!! My team is in absolute command of the field... we are doomed." Just doesn't work right.

I also think the more savvy doomers who happen to be Democrats, are starting to contemplate what doom means in terms of a US Government still able to carry out elections and field an army in 2016. Considering that most of them think us Republicans are basically Nazis (or worse, completely ignorant), I can imagine their nightmares.

Hopefully they've joined the rightist whackjobs so they can both spend their lives engaging in their own unique forms of mental masturbation, allowing the rest of us to solve real problems in peace without the noise caused by their respective cognitive disabilities and denial of reality as it is.

The Libertarian Party's free and open immigration position is the ultimate right-wing whack job stance. It's what one might call, 'beyond suicidal'.

Maybe 125 years ago, sure, but how anyone can seriously support this position today is hard to fathom.

Glad you're happy.

I wasn't really rallying the troops, just wondering what happened to them - supply lines cut? Surrounded behind enemy lines? Some of the TOD crew have diaries going at Dkos, and overall the peak preparedness message is heavy with environmental/social themes, real Dem or progressive stuff; with the Obamas gardening I expect it will become even more of a talking point. So why don't we get people posting here about the need for universal health care or ending extraordinary rendition? Other than it being mentioned in passing. The overall message is too grim, perhaps; or you lot have grossed them out en masse. Or they believe it's all a non-issue.

Kunstler or Greer wrote that it pays to keep an eye on the extremist movements of the day, post-peak they may likely have the ascendancy on a platform based on revenge for the populace. Chances are this will mean leaning in the one direction; the DoublePlus Republican Party. Or local politics will take on far greater significance than the national, out of necessity, in which case YMMV big time.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('JPL', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('TheDude', 'W')e've got politically sinister (literal meaning) types like americandream and Eastbay, but they formulate coherent arguments from a base of familiarity with history and sound reasoning. Where are the crude ad hominems and murky conspiracies, guys? Why is raving about the sordid intentions of one's political opposites strictly the regimen of ultra right fanatics on this site? Why aren't we getting any fellow travelers wandering in from Kos and Huff Po?

Hmmm?

Yo Dude

LOL most of us lefties are just leaning against the door post & having a quick smoke before the action starts. Also it's fun watching capitalism blow itself to pieces. It's been a long time coming. No point in commenting on anything really, just enjoy the show...

Hehe yep too true. I am loving socialism for the bankers and the population is still buying it, you know how could we possibly live if those fat cats were not earning 20-30 million per year. I mean the ordinary person might just stop breathing, quick give them MORE money. LOL

Some notable right wingers have also made their exit, poor ole Mr Bill went running, some of the clap trap he came out with regards the greatness of capitalism hehe. NOTE: I respect his skill in his limited sphere of knowledge i.e. finance markets according to the empire ;)

I think Jaws is also gone. He was a right wing and ignorant piece of work too.

The left could reply but the righties on this site seem to hopelessly fill up space trying to frame their ideology. They post like people on a mission. I surmise they may be acting out of fear or an inferiority complex. It is like they can't let a forum pass wherein they might get a chance to bash Obama even obliquely. Most of us look past those cheap shots and try to participate, but their blather does tend to kill topic threads (like it looks like it is about to kill this one) and bring on tangents instead.
