how did the US survive for 220+ years without HR875 ?

take a look at it. this has nothing to do with making food safe. it creates a pre-condition for selective persecution - large sectors of society will not be in compliance. they can be selectively shut down - at the whim of the federal government.

HR875 is all about control. it's like Monsanto is writing legislation for the US government.

You're right!

I'm not going to have a garden!

The bill authorizes fines of up to $1,000,000 dollars for "each act" and for "each day" of a violation.

Is it time yet?

From the sponsor's wiki page (Rosa DeLauro):

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '&')quot; On February 4th, 2009 Ms. DeLauro introduced H.R. 875 entitled "Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009." This bill is allegedly to protect the US' food supply, however, it leaves small farmers, especially organic, at a great disadvantage to the corporate ones. Congresswoman DeLauro has several ties to corporate agriculture. For instance, her husband Stanley Greenberg has Monsanto as a client. Ms. DeLauro also receives massive donations from agribusiness political action committees. [2] [3] This bill could potentially threaten to regulate home gardens as well."

I didn't read the text, it does not apply to us. But what I can imagine is, that, if it comes to food shortages and to rationing, they want to have a complete register of who grows what amount. Then you will be forced to sell them for a very cheap price, all what is more than your families needs. So if it applies, then you know what to write into your records,

Talk about a conflict of interest! Have they told the Amish, etc., yet? Better yet, are TPTB going to pay us for NOT growing things, too?

I wonder how they think they can enforce this? There are farms, companies, etc., that have not been inspected for years (according to various news reports). I realize this would put Monsanto one step closer to controlling the food supplies; however, at this time, I suspect this is more putting something in place that can be used to pick and choose what farms, companies, etc., can be destroyed when their production threatens Monsanto or the government.

Warrants will not be needed because The Boys in Black will easily visually confirm the presence of illegally grown - unregistered - food. It's the same with pot. If they can see it, they can get it.

Wow, this is weird.

All the food contamination issues over the past few years have been from Big Agribusiness and China. But oh no, they won't touch those.

1.) I really don't see this getting anywhere at the moment.

2.) Even if it did it would be impossible to enforce.

I draw my line in the sand with this bill. This will not stand. If this passes and is enforced as it appears it will be, it is the end of freedom. Not being able to grow ones own vegetables, as has been done for thousands of years by humans, is intolerable. It is an attempt to make us complete wards of this corrupt and power-mad state.

Warrants are just a technicality today anyway. Even if they don't see it and ask if they can search your place, if you tell them no then that gives them reasonable suspicion that your hiding something illegal and are able to get a warrant one that premise alone and search your place. They no longer have to have any type of real probable cause. When you say no that's probable cause.
Isn't it amazing how far we have degraded in the freedoms of our forefathers gave us. When you stand up for those rights, they use it as an excuse that you are doing something illegal.
I know this from being pulled over by a cop and he wanted to search my truck and they put you in handcuffs for "your " protection. When it's all over and done with it's have a nice day.
