$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Armageddon', 'O')il jumps $5.00 and it doesn't even make the news ? We are witnessing the ratcheting effect. Down a little, up more, down a little, up even more, etc.

Your right about oil going up a lot today on May 2nd. Oil opened at around $112 then closed at $116.32. A $4.30 rally and I didn't hear anything on the news about crude oil's rally. What I did hear was the price of wheat/rice/corn/beef going higher.

Okie dokie. Looks like I'll have to be the one to warm this thread up a little today as oil continues it's climb on Friday's significant boost which none of the news outlets discussed. Big sell-off early last week and a ~$6 climb on Friday and ~$2.50 so far today. Looks like $110 was indeed the new bottom and if today's charge holds at this rate, we'll settle above $120 on our way to a new bottom of $115.

As I said earlier, two steps forward, one step back, three steps forward...

totally agree, the price needs to break $120 and hold. you will then see crooning in the MSM, they have been suspiiously quiet on the way back up after the fanfare that they trumpetted on the way down to $110

Yep, they trumpetted all the way down but quiet on the upturn. Love to tell the people their gas price troubles will soon be history but they're loathe to take it back when the tide turns back on them .

We're back to $119.50.

At the same time USD has been gaining value. It's now 1€ = 1.55$ while it was 1.59 at lowest.

Analysts can't say now oil price has risen because of weakening dollar.

Too cheap is 120$. I see more cars, planes, horny whores with too much make up laughing about how ugly looks Britney on their favorite tabloid, fat bodybuilded bastards listening violent RAP on their shitty IPOD, or worse, on their cellphone to share with subway passengers as livid as zombies. Myself, i'm still wasting my time on the great Internet instead of gardening on the road.

We have yet to hit the brick wall.

As long as the economic collapse is held off, I don't see any decline in consumption until actual physical shortages become the problem.

Until then it will be go go go.

And most likely the number one consumer (US) will be the last to hit physical shortages unless there is some type of embargo. Meanwhile the 3rd world countries will suffer even more than they do today.

I would normally agree that the US may be the last major oil importer to feel physical shortages, but oil imports into the US have been dropping at an accelerating rate. Even doomers like myself have been taken aback by this.

Average imports are down 150,000 bpd from last year, with the decline more pronounced in recent weeks.

I think that the price is causing some people to drive less, but it isn't causing many people to really wake up.

The wake up will happen around here when we have to pay $4 a gallon for heating oil. We need around 300 gallons, so we'll have to pony up $1200, but there are people who have to buy 1000 gallons who will have to take out a second mortgage just to heat their house next year.

This is going to be a touchy summer with gas prices up and people not being able to use their gas toys, but I'm worried about next winter more.

What he said!

Very real possibility of costing $4-5,000 dollars to heat your house. Blood in the streets, at least until it congeals in the cold.

Dante, I must say it's frightening that someone as informed as you are about the dry dull details of oildom is a DOOMER.

I would be even more freaked out if someone as informed and knowledgeable as Dante was NOT a doomer. I am getting a strong suspicion that more and more well-informed people in and around the oil industry are becoming increasingly doomeristic since they too MUST be aware of the same data we are. They may not publicly proclaim their doomerosity, yet there is really no other rational conclusion possible other than the conclusion that we're about to fall off a cliff due to coming energy (and therefore food) scarcities.
