$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ANewHuman', 'Y')ou've "found" people have you, what with your hermit personality you've had lots of life experience with lots of different people eh? Imagine me making some weird noise as I disregard your opinion on this matter.

I'm hardly a hermit. I've lived more places and met more people in the last four years than most have in a lifetime. I've had all sorts of jobs too, I'm just not that good at sticking to them. I don't consider this a drawback anymore. I'll find my niche eventually & my experience will serve me.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('ANewHuman', 'Y')our last question is important I take it, my motivation..... I guess when I see pretenders to the throne like Matt I take pleasure in making them my jester. Is this analogy decent enough for you?

Online everyone is everyone's jester. And yes your analogy is fine. Personally I don't see the need for you to be such a dick about it (since Matt hasn't done you any harm personally) but to each their own, the bitter helps one savor the sweet and all that.

Hopefully you will be attending the June 21st mega-doom party at the compound... we have a TOOL tribute band playing the whole weekend! Nothing but Local food/ local beer and plenty of fun....
hope to see you there if we are not going to see you here!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('MattSavinar', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('JPL', 'H')mmm, interesting thread....

Throughout Matt's ramblings across the internet I have seen a consistant theme which is basically an attempt to scare people.

Well this worked for a while. Also he went full-on for a 'Peak Oil' theme which also worked, for a while.

As these little stories run out of steam there was basically nothing left in the bag. He had nothing to offer people, there was no 'politics' behind Matt that was capable of convincing people that there was anything good about the future, other than to indulge us further in his own paranoia.

But now there are no more heads left to fuck-up. So I say good riddence.

Good-bye Matt (grin).

JP

Site traffic at LATOC is higher than ever. Based on page views of both the parent site and the LATOC forum combined, it is the most popular PO site on the net. I'm not saying that to brag - although I'm sure many will interpret it that way - but to refute your implied assertion that readership is declining.

Quite frankly, you sound like you may be suffering from "angry beta syndrome." The primary symptom of which is anger and resentment towards anybody who is actually doing something productive and worthwhile with themselves.

I could be wrong of course. It could be chromosome damage or genetic defects you're dealing with. Either way, best of luck to you dealing with these challenges.

Hi Matt,

Yea right...

I have spent 20 years in the Green movement and you, bud, need to spend time out & read some books.

A lot of people like me have put in a great deal of time, energy & enthusiasm into the idea that we can build a more equitable, sustainable society. Climate change, peak oil, were things that would be a vehicle for social change. We never used these issues to frighten people - just a gentle way to guide them into a better way of living.

You have attempted to take our arguements and twist them to your own purposes. So I bet you have never planted a tree and watched it grow (I am willing to be proved wrong in this) I bet you have never read Charlotte's Web to your 6 year-old daughter and secretly cried with her in the sad bits, in fact I bet you don't care at all about the future, or your children's future, except that small part of it that involves being proved right on your web-site.

With regard to chromosome damage - laugh - as most people here know, I'm an Aspie (and proud of it!). What's YOUR problem mate???

It's been my experience, in forums on the interwebs, that posters who make threads about "leaving" are fucking douche bags.

Maybe Matt is an exception to this rule, but I doubt it. Fucking douche.

I must agree on that, gampy... A person who really wants to leave, leaves.. just like that.. no need to make such a big announcement like it were a cry for help for others to beg you not to leave...

I think that most of those who say they leave return.. which shows something in all of them : they do not feel bat at all for lieing in your face.

I won't criticise Matt too hard, as I see that there are some here at po.com made a personality cult centered on him, and dont need bashing at the moment. However even if if I won't,his fanaticism still amuses me.. how some are preparing by saving lots of food like the ww3 were coming or something. It is amusing to see that some have become obsessed with peakoil-mania.. I don't think that peak oil is not a problem, however Matt& company make it look like a religion with dogmas instead of arguments. It would be recomended to accept criticism from time to time, and admit your mistakes, instead of getting pissed of that somebody dared to contradict you on your points. And by the way, The end of the world as we know it will never come, so matt& company, good luck with your religion.

Hi Matt,

Yea right...

I've probably read more in the last 5 years than most intellectuals have in 20. If there's one talent that A) you need to get into a top law school and B) gets honed to a razor's edge in order to get through a legal education, it's reading comprehension. That may sound like bragging but it isn't "bragging" anymore than an accountant saying he's dealt with a lot of numbers and done a lot of math in his day.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')A lot of people like me have put in a great deal of time, energy & enthusiasm into the idea that we can build a more equitable, sustainable society. Climate change, peak oil, were things that would be a vehicle for social change.

LMAO. Hear me out here: you know the single archetype of person who seems to be hostile to me personally in regards to LATOC? It's always the same guy, that is the veteran male - never female - environmental/green activist guy!

Lo and behold, you seem to have some anger/resentment towards me and that's exactly how you just described yourself down to a "T"

It always used to perplex me why this particular archetype seems to be the only person who I get the hostility from in regards to LATOC - openly here on the forums but more subtly in real life. I kept noticing it and was throughly confused so I did what I always do in said situations which is ask an older (wiser) woman about what to make of this definite pattern I had noticed. One explained it to me that it's probably some form of male jealousy. This perplexed me as whatever my flaws are, I am definitely not a jealous person whatsoever and you generally have to have a bit of something in you in order to spot in other people. Since I'm not a jealous or resent-filled person even in the slightest, the jealous and resentment that was getting projected at me personally had not been picked up by my own internal inter-personal radar.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')We never used these issues to frighten people - just a gentle way to guide them into a better way of living.

It's not me who is frightening people, it's the news and the facts on the ground. You'd have to be either a sociopath, on heavy duty medication, or have chromosome damage not to be frightened by any look at the news in regards to energy, geopolitics, the climate, and the economy.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '

You have attempted to take our arguements and twist them to your own purposes.

There's that jealously/anger/male-resentment again.

No, but I have helped cut one down. :twisted:

I had no idea but I guess my intuition was right. As far as holding it against you o having a problemI certainly don't. But you sure as hell seem to be upset by the fact I'm 20 years younger than you. So who really has the problem?

JPL,

A quick addendum: usually people who say they are promoting "social change" are actually mostly (secretly) concerned about their own social influence and political power than anything else. As the saying goes, "those who want to change the world usually want to control the world."

(Of course I'm sure you're the exception to this.)

Here's another woman's take, Matt. Older, not necessarily wiser. It's all about territory. I look at these boards, and watch the male mammals pissing all over the trees on the edges of their territories, and just laugh. Some males guard a particular forum. Others have a larger range, and pee on everything. I've even had them pissing on my feet. Identifying yourself as a woman seems to help cut down the competitive behavior, though, and keeps me from having to wash my shoes too often. :P

Exactly!

This is why when I used to post at TOD I posted as "Alpha Male Prophet of Doom." It was supposed to be a tongue-in-cheek sort of joke but it became obvious the humor was lost on lots of people so I changed to "The Chimp Who Can Drive."

This is also why I have what I call the "Matriarchy Of Doom" modding the LATOC forum. Of 7 moderators, 5 are women. Each is a mom or grandmother. Figure that is the best way to keep things from descending into an online dick size/pissing contest.

Heh heh, in NW France in the winter that would NOT be a good idea - could be waiting a long time for the beans to bubble...

We use a wood-fired range for our winter cooking so that IS solar in a way (grin).

Interesting post. You appear to have hit a nail bang-on & I respect you for that. OK then, I have a proposal. Seeing as the world is about to end anyhow (grin) then why-not come to France? We'll put you up in the spare room & I'll show you how us old hippies chose to end our days. There is lots to do around the place, chickens to muck out, ditches to be re-dug, etc. The accomodation is primative but the table is welcoming.

We can thrash out our ideas of an evening and then publish a joint paper for all the world to see & criticise. That's the traditional way of doing it (grin).

It's a genuine offer.

Matt, I am getting old. If I was serious about changing the world I would have done it when I was your age. And yes, it would probably have been for the reasons you say.

Now, I just want a quiet life. But it appears the world is not going to give me one.

Definitely true for me.

If I could have my own island & near complete control over everything from the construction thereon to the ecosystem (to the best of my ability) to who came & went I would be a happy camper. Been a dream of mine for over 15 years now (way before I heard about peak oil, overshoot, sustainable living, any such stuff). :)
