$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('SpringCreekFarm', 'I') voted for a die-off with me making it. Here is why:
1. I grew up poorer and know what it is like to be without, to have a cold house in the winter. A sudden shock would not necessarily be a shock for me, at least to be unsurvivable. I'm pretty well prepared.
2. I'm a homesteader. I'm also a technician. I go to work everyday with the thought of preparing myself and my family for post peak. I work more out of the home right now realizing that will turn around in years to come. As I get older and my kids, grandkids grow, we'll be doing more on the farm. If we're lucky, the transistional shock will be minimal.
3. I live in a survivable area. Where I live is not where I would consider a bad place to be post peak. I own property and have been in my community most of my life. I'm surrounded by people that I get a long with and have known all my life. After the SHTF, people will kick into survival mode and get on board.
4. Because I'm dedicated to this, I hope to be sought out as a teacher or at least a respected elder. This can go a long way for having someone watching your back. Your whole community may want to keep you around. You folks that have to move away and establish new roots may find this difficult. I could easily see our community coming together in a big way. That's North American Indians for ya!
5. We live in an area that still has 33% forest cover. You can see it quite clearly if you use google earth to view it. It is a little north of lake Erie and west of lake Ontario. It is essentially a patch of forest with hunting and forest resources that remains largely intact. There is no shortage of firewood here. Politically it is only available to approximately 1500 people on earth.
6. With regard to the roving baddies, if dialing 911 doesn't get me a response ( as it would perhaps when TSHTF ) then I'll likely shoot you. I'm armed and I shoot regularly.
7. I want to survive. I want my family to survive. We are not overbreeders, in fact there are few of us left as it is.
If I didn't believe I could survive this, I would probably be a crazy
rock star or something instead of learning how to use and sharpen old crosscut saws and how to can and garden etc etc. I would be partying. So I think it is 50% attitude and 50% circumstances.

You live on the Six Nations Reserve? With the last name Brant, you have an illustrious family history. Much respect to you and your people!
