-i dont believe bush said that. First is that he is an idiot. Second is he is a christ loving christian and is not afraid to say it publically and is not against putting religion in schools.

Also there is more of a point to this then my curiosity nd i have a good discussion after i get enough votes.

lol whoops sorry that sounded bad im actually a atheist. Ill get straight to the point is most atheists dont usually hop on these negative scenarios, and christians you think would like the end of the world (end of life as we know it will be totally different) crap. Well i was wondering what makes this so much more credible peak oil and the collapse of the world economy over say the y2k scare. I dont think any atheists really hopped on that.

I do believe in peak oil and do not consider it a theory because of strong evidence for it in the past. You would think the US would be more on it since our country did peak and did go into negative decline but we keep our happy lifestyles oil will be forever.

I'm an Atheist, as adding uneeded layers to the problem is pointless. Especially ones that would have to exist outside spacetime and causality.

On the other hand I also understand completley the human need for these type of beliefs, and how easy (dumb) they are to maniplulate, as follows:

Cultist: "Heathen boy, do you praise our great God Allabacki !!"

Me: "Why yes, he's the best. I even have the most holy scripture, which I totally agree with. (hint: I don't really Shhhhh)

Cultist: "You must be a great man, as the holy scripture says any servant of Allabacki is as such."

Me: "Thankyou, I shall be on my way brother."

I believe in an impersonal deity (i.e. God has no mind or intention about anything--it's more of a process than a being). But by most people's standards, I'd be an atheist. Which is weird, because I'm also an ordained priest.

It is evidenced in the world-wide religions, and the capacity of people to believe ...something, regardless of their upbringing, race, origin, etc.

It's a gift from evolution.

Ignosticism

the view that the concept of God as a being is meaningless because it has no verifiable consequences, therefore it cannot be usefully discussed as having existence or nonexistence.

William James' The Varieties Of Religious Experience makes a good case against Ignosticism. If we're talking about concepts of God and what impact such a concept can actually have in the life of someone who has a will to believe then there's no doubt that how one thinks about these religious/mystic issues can lead to feelings that seperate and distinguish one way of living from another. That's the whole point, it's supposed to be a life changing thing.

An Episcopalian priest by any chance?

I've found that the Episcopal church is fairly accepting of people with different conceptions of god. So far I've had significant dealings with 2 different priests and neither one was bothered by my self proclaimed agnostic status. This is good as I like the community of the church (and feel that it will be important as we go through tough times).

This is just one more reason to be slightly worried about my present local (metro Atlanta). Episcopalians are few and far between so the church I attend draws from a wide area (15 miles radius at least). As transportation costs go up our community will have to fracture. The churches closer to me at too Baptist or evangelical to be tolerable.

No, I'm ordained in Ecclesia Gnostica Catholica. I was raised in a half Episcopalean, half Jewish household, though.

Yeah, of all the mainstream Western Christian Churches I've seen, Episcopalean is my favorite.

Its not.

I'm 30 miles outside the city in an area that could he ok (old towns along the railroad) if I hadn't located 10 miles from 3 old downtowns (its not quite that perfect but its close). Even with the location I'd be fairly happy to stay if I didn't see a conflict coming between urban blacks and a brand of conservative, religious whites that I disagree with.

I said "energy", not "power". Energy flows through all things, but that doesn't mean we can capture and redirect that all that energy in the form of power. We can't harness the electron spinning around the atom, but it's still a form of energy.
