$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('lardlad', 'm')gibbons, I think you are specop would be happier elsewhere. Just a suggestion. There are lots of boards on the net where your views would be warmly welcomed.

Hmm, unless you're a puppet, I might point out that both Spec's and my member dates preceed yours by a more than a year. Further, I don't suspect you know my views.

It is sad that the board has degenerated so much.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hile the average new car gets approximately 28 miles to the gallon (m.p.g.) on the highway (and several models exceed 40 m.p.g.), most SUVs get less than 20 m.p.g. - and some popular models get at an appalling 12-16 m.p.g.

did you even read my post?? My numbers are based on research...not an opinion. If you can come up with how you got to your average of 28 mpg then fine or better yet maybe you can argue with my numbers?

As to cost savings if you go to my post on the other thread I also calculated cost differences....if you buy a large coffee everyday that you do not need it ends up being about the same savings to quit that habit as it does to go from the average SUV to the average car on the road.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('lardlad', 'Y')ou know, reading the belligerent and slightly insane rantings of these huge 5-ton vehicle owners, bloated and savage with hubris, their faces aflame with selfishness, greed and self-righteous rage, I'm starting to see Monte's point about more aggressive forms of downsizing the population.
I haven't read all of monte's posts, but the way you put it sounds very sinister. Are SUV owners to be stripped and made to walk barefoot over sharp gravel between rows of barking German Shepard dogs and leering guards with automatic rifles to 'the showers'?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'I')ts literally not worth trading in. Its paid for, its too useful. In fact right now I'm finishing the basement. Couldnt put the drywall in the Jetta. Expedition? No problem.

You could have the drywall hanging 4 foot out the back of the trunk of the Jetta and hope it doesn't fall out going up a hill, killing some poor unsuspecting passer by on their electric bicycle !!!

I used to have a political cartoon tacked to my fridge..finally it fell apart so I tossed it..shoulda got that sucker laminated. It was some hippies saying to their kids:

"sex, drugs, and rock n roll is one thing, BUT DON'T LET ME EVER CATCH YOU DRIVING AN SUV!"

My kids know I'm serious too. I will consider disowning them if they ever get one. :P

Interesting sentiments coming from a person who lives in a country where firearms with bores larger than .38 are banned.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Specop_007', 'I')'ll eat MY hat if Prius account for more then 5% of the cars on the road today. Assume SUV's account for 25%.

The Prius has a 1 year waiting list, while SUV sales are in a tailspin. Looks like the crowd is with me, trollboy. Your assumption about SUVs is wrong (see below).

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'Y')our just not saving that much oil going from SUV's to "average" cars, maybe AT BEST your consumption is halved.

From SUV (like the Tahoe) to a hybrid Civic or Toyota is a 3-4 times increase in efficiency. These fuel-efficient cars are rapidly becoming the new "average" car.

In 2004, average consumption of new cars on sale in France now at 46 mpg. So Europe, free of SUV-loving dickheads, is way ahead already.

In Germany, Volkswagen have the Lupo 3L designed to use just three liters of fuel per 100 kilometers - about 78 miles per gallon. No production car in the USA gets close. Tests show it can get up to 84 miles per gallon.

Hello?

I run several fora like this on the Internet. I'd ban you and your SUV-loving friends in an instant. There is no time to waste by indulging the mentally challenged who love fuel consumption and actively seek to promote it. Time is tight. We are approaching a crisis in the next 1-50 years. People like you have held sway for too long. You are the foul dust (to use a f Scott Fitzgerald phrase ) of the human world. Aaron should become more proactive in shepherding debate here. Just my opinion, of course.

Oooh, good point. Let's all buy SUVs for the 1 in a 100 trip when we need a truck's carrying capacity. Pshaw!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('tinosorb', 'T')he Lupo is replaced by the bigger, heavier, less efficient Fox.

Oh, I won't do it, but don't put it past angry youngsters who think their selfish, profligate elders have effed it all up for them.

Ah, there you have a point. The young get pissed at the old for obvious reasons. Wouldn't it be ironic if the baby boomers, of whom I a tail-end member, and who ranted about "don't trust anyone over thirty!" wind up being sent to the gas chambers by young people who don't trust anyone over thirty? (but then again, when have the young called the shots? they are always being led by old guys in suits (or uniforms))

you have an unwarranted superiority complex, an affliction common to those of middling intelligence. you are not intelligent enough to realize how much you don't know. nothing wrong with you a few knuckle samwiches couldn't fix.
