Went into town today, haven't been there since Saturday---the local gas station has dispensed with the 9/10th cent crap, prices are now: $3.25 for regular gasoline, $3.45 for diesel...

In North Bay, Ontario we are up to 1.25 per litre about a 20 cent jump. Largest jump I have ever seen. I expect more jumps like this soon.

Middletown, Maryland now $2.99! Someone at work saw $3.15 in Frederick. Maybe the high prices will get a lot of people to come to Congressman Bartlett's PO conference. :)

**EDIT**

I checked http://www.marylandgasprices.com/ and someone posted $3.59 in Bel Air, Maryland! Maybe a joke, most of the others are around $3.20 for highs.

Monday it was up 7 cents to $2.77. Today up another 7 cents to $2.84. At this rate it will be up about 25 cents/week, that means up to $4.00/gallon for regular unleaded by early October.

Funny having a thread start with that headline when gas prices have jumped more than 50 cents in the lat few days.

Regarding the $5.87 gasoline, is it still price gouging if no one buys your gas?
Could just be a publicity stunt.

Hmm, time for Hugo Chavez and Citgo Socialism to the rescue...?

Meanwhile back in the San Francisco Bay Area, $3.21 per gallon today, up about 50-cents from the last time I got gas which was over a week ago. A full tank in the minivan cost $52., ouch.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('trendal', 'P')rices here are $1.20 per liter in CDN dollars.

That works out to about $3.84 USD per gallon.

Wow, so I guess we won't see a lot of Canadians coming down to the U.S. to fill up their tanks with gas anymore! How did that happen? I thought gas prices in Canada were significantly more than in the U.S.??

The price difference shrinks even more when you consider the Canadian or imperial gallon is approx. 1/5 bigger than the US.The days of border hopping for gas are done.

Yep...that's the first time in history the price of gasoline is MORE THAN €1,50 per ltr. The price of gasoline has risen 9cts over the last 8 days...

On Wednesday morning, I went to a job site about 50 miles from home and all the gas stations I saw on the way averaged about 2.65 for regular unleaded. Three hours later, after I finished the job, the gas prices had risen to 2.99 to 3.09 for regular unleaded. The prices have been creeping up further for the last two days.

Last night around midnight, after my fantasy football draft, I was on the way home and near empty. So I went a bit out of my way off the highway to a gas station that has always been the cheapest by far - a Hess station in Portland. This station and an Exxon across the street are normally open 24 hours. Both were closed, and the Hess prices were far more expensive than the Exxon, 3.09 for regular at Hess and 2.89 for regular at Exxon. As I despise Exxon, and I had already driven 15 miles with the empty light on (normally a range of 25 miles between light on and out of gas), I turned around and the Sunoco in Middletown was still open at 2.99 a gallon for regular. I have now experienced my first $40 fill up for my Honda CRV. I was pleased with the fuel though, it actually smelled like gasoline (light sweet crude derived?) instead of heating oil (heavy sour crude derived?) as I pumped it.

Not only have prices risen, but convenience has declined. The tank will never go below one half capacity again, just like 1973. Definitely a change in thinking and behavior is here.

There has been a very strange phenomenon of late around here:

Diesel has been cheaper than Regular Petrol.

Yes, you read right!

Not sure if you were ironic. Until this last year-or-so, diesel was consistently cheaper than unleaded. Several of us had thought that diesel being over the cost of unleaded was an indicator of supply issues. Diesel is somewhat easier to refine, and you get more diesel from a given amout of most crudes. Thus, cheaper. But, because diesel is bought in such huge quantities, pricing wars are even more cutthroat. Thus, the oil companies have diverted the tight production to the more lucrative unleaded market.

In Tennessee, from my limited viewpoint, there are gas lines not necessarily to get the cheapest gasoline, but simply to get ANY gasoline. Most of the pumps are out of action;incidentally, in one station I saw, the only pump which seemed to be producing was the diesel pump.

Regards,

L.
