$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '$')2.40 an hour to wait in line? That's all his time is worth?

Yeah, that was my reaction. I wouldn't do it.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'W')hat are these people thinking? They must have nothing better to do than be a miser.

There is that. Some people just get a kick out of getting a bargain, or at least getting a better deal than their neighbor.

Check out this story:

A riot broke out when a school sold off its 4-year-old iBooks for $50 each. I mean, geez. Four-year-old laptops, that have probably been ill-used, and probably can't run today's software anyway? For this you whack people in the head with a chair for cutting in line, or try to drive your car through the crowds?

When real gas shortages start happening things will be different. Everyone will be civil and patiently wait on cue for hours and then quietly leave when they find out there is no gas. All the while singing "I would like to buy the world a coke".

Wait until there's nothing in their grocery stores. Then they can eat their money.

I am beginning to notice the same thing. The station that went up to $2.74 was empty but the one at $2.60 was doin brisk business. Whether this a sign that we may see couple of these station run out of gas temporarily i am not sure.

I took a trip up I-35 this weekend.
$2.49/gal Unl - Austin
$2.37/gal - Waco
$2.61/gal - Dallas/Fort Worth

The last major price change (+$0.10 in 1 day) was last Wed or Thursday.
I'm expecting a nickel or dime jump tomorrow or Wed, depending on Kat's damage extent.

Good idea, I should've said what I paid. It went up 7 cents/gallon from this morning to afternoon to $2.77/gallon. Still cheap by European/Australian standards.

I paid $2.499 for "87 octane" on Sunday evening in Florence, SC.

It is claimed that we're among the cheapest places to buy gasoline in the US. Of course that's been the pre-peak oil trend.

In the nearest town to me it was $3.15 regular, $3.35 for diesel today, up from $2.95/$3.15 last week...(northeastern California)

I haven't quite hit the $40 mark to fill up my Subaru with 91 octane, but it's getting close. I expect at least a 10-15 cent price increase at the minumum. It seems the oil markets are waiting for damage assessments to come from the Gulf of Mexico before before prices will rocket past $70. Wholesale gas distributors are already looking at 10-25 cent price increases.

This honestly sounds like price gouging to me. Usually crude price spikes take at least 3-4 weeks to translate into higher gasoline prices because the crude is bought a month in advance and takes time to deliver as refined gasoline. So the gas they bought a month ago didn't all of a sudden cost more.

Falser, thanks for that information. I was wondering how long crude oil prices took to translate to gasoline. I filled up Sunday afternoon, Rt. 36 in NJ across Raritan Bay from NYC. Cheapest gas in the area, $2.41 regular, at a number of stations.

The 406 is a nice car. I wish they had Peugeots in the U.S. :(
