petrol has been between 89.9 pence ($1.61) and 93.9 pence ($1.69) a litre for about 1 week here now, inching up about 1 pence every 2 weeks.

Early in this year it was around 80 pence a litre and mid-late last year i remember it being about 76.9 pence a litre, so in the space of a year its went up around 13-16 pence a litre on average - about 17 - 20 %, which isnt all that much really.

I notice it on my car now though - cost me £55 ($99) to fill up (60 litre tank) instead of £45 ($81).

I filled my Prius, $2.59/gal, $25 fill up, 9.7 gals, 505 miles, 52 MPG.

I saw the Shell station near my house go from $2.63 to $2.79 overnite! 8O
I expect we will see $3 very soon in the Frederick area. Near DC it is almost $3.

Here in Riverside, CA it's gone up ~7 cents for gasoline, and 2 cents for diesel.

Prices jumped 20 cents a gallon in the Boston suburbs today to around $2.80 a gallon, and we are nowhere near the refineries affected by Katrina.

I just heard that gas has gone up 30 cents per litre in Woodstock, Ontario. It is now $1.30 per litre, there. I was also just told to expect similar hikes here in London by tomorrow morning.

I hear that the US Midwest is very dependent on supply from Louisiana. Perhaps the same is true for Ontario? Or at least the parts of it near Michigan?

On Sunday, I told my step mom to fill up all the way BOTH vehicles. Regular was $2.39. She only put $5 in. Now she's cryin' about it.

Here in St. Louis, regular is now $2.75, and apparently it will be raised to $3.20 tomorrow. People just won't listen...

I live in the middle of Missouri.. usually our prices for gasoline are about as low as anywhere. This morning at 8:00 am regular was $2.57. When I came home from work at about 4:30 pm, it was $2.65 and when I was out about 6:30 pm, they had just raised it to $2.79!

It's finally sinking in for my wife. She didn't believe me when I told her a few months ago that we'd see $3.00 gas. I know, this is mostly because of Katrina, but any disruption would have caused it. I doubted that we'd get through the year without some sort of disruption.

Disappearing Gas Station Price Signs?

Unread postby Nomoil » Tue 30 Aug 2005, 23:50:23

The other day I noticed that a Shell’s price sign was strangely missing. Has anyone else noticed similar happenings?

I want to know if this is an isolated event or a common tactic used by gas stations to combat the higher prices. My guess is that Shell, or at least this particular station, which usually charges 10-15 cents higher than the Citgo down the street, removed the sign to lure unsuspecting consumers to the pump in the hopes that once they’re at the pump they won’t be willing to get back into their car and find a cheaper gas station.

What do you think?

I drive along route 38 from NJ into Philly everyday - almost. The
last gas station (ie cheap NJ gas) has recently been charging 5-10 cents
extra on the gal. Go into Philly and you pay 20 cents more.

All gas stations will probably have to replace the numbers on the signs with "Mkt Price" for the next couple weeks.

The Exxon at the Rt 18 / Rt 1 interchange in New Brunswick NJ was $2.69/79/89 for the three grades at 6 pm today. I drove past a Raceway station in a neighboring town (Raceway isn't a major brand-name) and at 7 p.m. premium was $2.97. I drove past the same Raceway at 11 and the price for regular was now $2.99 for regular, $3.10 for mid-grade, and $3.27 for premium.

I didn't know whether to feel elation at seeing PO prophecies fulfilled, or dread at how everyday people will react.

I saw it on londongasprices.com but they appear to have taken it off the site (the quote for $1.30 in Woodstock) so I'm not sure what the deal is.

Anecdotal evidence: when my pizza was delivered tonight (I'll miss that, post-peak...) the delivery guy said in hushed tones (he actually seemed distraught about it) that gas would go up by over 20 cents in the city, by tomorrow morning.

http://www.hamiltongasprices.com/

Looks like it's up to $1.20 in Hamilton, as of tonight...
