$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Newfie', 'A') few years ago there was at least one “Publc Service” billboard that was promoting washing hands after deficating. Not humor, dead serious.
I took it as a statement on our level of civilization and the public school system.
Um, you see this all over the place, though it's often phrased as "wash hands after using the bathroom".
Public service announcements. Commonly, signs in restaurants. Commonly plastered all over hospitals, perhaps to make the patients feel better. I never see
my Dr. wash his hands before or after he sees me, even for a physical. So should I assume all Doctors wash their hands between seeing all patients, even though surely Doctors should know to do this? How about nurses?
I was almost shocked the time a surgeon thoroughly washed his hands in my dad's room, before seeing my dad and working on a wound he had.
To me, this isn't at all humorous, and due to the ignorance of the population, the problem is everywhere.
About 10 years ago, I started being careful about my hands in public. For example, consciously keeping them away from my face, and washing them well when I get home. Also avoiding touching doorknobs on bathrooms without paper towels where possible. And avoiding handling the public pens used to sign things in doctors' offices, at cash registers, etc.
If nothing else, I'm certain I get less than half the colds I used to get, due to that simple precaution.
I don't wear a mask at the doctors' office, but given the state of the waiting room in the winter, I'm tempted. I DO try to stay the hell away from patients who are clearly sick.
Given the track record of the perma-doomer blogs, I wouldn't bet a fast crash doomer's money on their predictions.
