RING THE ALARM EBOLA ZAIRE IS SPREADING FAST NOW!

Ebola: medics brace for new cases as DRC outbreak spreads
WHO says 103 confirmed and probable cases in outbreak centred in North Kivu province

An outbreak of Ebola in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has reached a pivotal moment and now endangers medical teams fighting to stop the spread of the disease, health workers have said.

Dr Peter Salama, the World Health Organisation’s emergencies chief, said there were 103 confirmed and probable cases in the outbreak, which is centred in the eastern province of North Kivu, and that another wave of cases was expected.

Joseph Fair, a virologist working with the International Medical Corps in the DRC, told NPR that health-care workers fear a "West Africa-like situation" and are doing what they can to contain the outbreak. Between 2014 and 2016, Ebola killed over 11,000 in Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone....

Newfie - "Might be the only way to bring peace to the region." So does shooting all your enemies. And much more target specific then an epidemic. In fact if the more powerful force is disproportionally hit with Ebola it might induce the weaker force to increase military actions. A rather sad potential for an asymmetric advantage.

Newfie - And to point out the really scary potential: one side or the other "weaponizing" Ebola. And given the potential for a natural spread of the disease it might be very difficult to point a finger. Lots of movies where the bad guys were trying to develop a biological weapon. Here's one made by nature.

Yes: bad habit of thinking about efficient methods of killing. So don't piss me off, fella. LOL. Actually recently saw a movie where one group poisoned a well of its enemies in a fortress with black plague infected dog meat. And that setting was during the Middle Ages.

Ebola outbreak in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) could be worst ever in East Africa
https://www.rescue.org/press-release/eb ... ver-east-0
With a total of 112 confirmed and probable cases and 75 deaths, the outbreak’s toll is already high
The recent spread of Ebola to Oicha, an area surrounded by multiple armed groups, poses significant logistical and security management challenges
The IRC is distressed about a potential repeat of the 2014 Ebola outbreak if immediate and sufficient international response is not forthcoming
In some areas, local communities have resisted follow up of contacts as well as safe burials - critical for outbreak control
The IRC is supporting 37 health facilities in North Kivu to strengthen infection control practices, and put in a system for triage, isolation, and referral of suspected Ebola cases

WHO: Rapid Response Needed to Stem Ebola Outbreak in DR Congo

GENEVA —
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports the next seven to 10 days are critical in controlling the spread of the Ebola virus in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. Its latest update reported 111 cases of Ebola, with 83 confirmed and 28 probable, including 75 deaths.

The WHO reports it is continuing to rapidly scale-up its response to the Ebola outbreak in North Kivu and Ituri provinces, including in Oicha, a town difficult to reach because of security concerns....

EBOLA CASE IN 1 Million City Butembo
Image
When you have an Ebola case confirmed in a city with 1 million people, no one should be sleeping well tonight around the world.
Peter Salama, WHO’s emergency response chief
Eight days ago, Salama said that the next 7 to 10 days would be critical to turn this Ebola outbreak around. As the world nears the end of that window, he says, the promising data point to a slowing outbreak ― but that this new case in Butembo, plus the security concerns, makes this far from over.

“Because of all of the complicating factors, it’s extremely important that we just continue to push really hard and support DRC and surrounding countries to be on top of this and not to have any false sense of security. It’s by no means over until the last case is really and truly dealt with.”

EBOLA SPREADING IN CONGOs BIG CITYS

Image
This picture have an inner beauty...

New cases of Ebola show outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is not yet under control
September 11, 2018 By Oxfam

https://www.oxfamamerica.org/explore/st ... r-control/

“While the transmission rate appeared to be slowing down due to communities responding quickly to prevent the spread, these new cases in urban areas mean we’re not out of the woods yet. In big cities, people come into contact with far more people, especially in a major trading place,” said Jose Barahona, our Country Director in the DRC.

“It’s also of real concern that three cases of the virus were found in a place where armed groups are highly active. These are hostile groups, who don’t negotiate, and our ability to reach people in need is extremely challenging. We cannot predict the scale of the consequences if the virus spreads further into rebel-held areas, or if these armed groups start to attack areas which have been hardest hit by Ebola.”

Health officials confirmed a new Ebola case Sept. 10. The patient fell ill in early August. His blood test was negative, but his sperm sample tested positive, according to a report from the Center for Infectious Disease and Policy Minneapolis-based University of Minnesota. The patient refused admittance to an Ebola treatment center and instead went to Butembo, a city of nearly 1 million people.

As of September 11th, 2018, nine cities have reported cases of Ebola, including Masereka, Kalunguta, Beni, Butembo, Goma, Oicha, Mabalako and Musienene in North Kivu, and Mandima in Ituri. There have been 102 confirmed cases of Ebola in the North Kivu and Ituri provinces along the Ugandan border, 61 of which have died from the infectious disease (3). Simultaneously, there are 31 probable cases and 19 suspected cases, of which 31 have died (3). Promisingly, there have been 37 cases of Ebola that have been cured (3). Most Ebola cases have been reported in Mabalako, where there have been 66 confirmed cases and 43 confirmed deaths (3).
For protection, World Health Organization workers require an armed escort through these to deliver vaccines and prepare outposts for controlling the epidemic (4). The UN peacekeeping force, which has around 20,000 personnel in the DRC has provided critical support in allowing medical teams to reach these regions (5).

So basically if things get 10,000 times worse Ebola will kill as many people as annual Influenza does?
