Science news: Casual marijuana use damages the brain

Even occasional marijuana use shrinks important parts of the brain

The science is pretty clear now on marijuana damaging the brain. But OK---go ahead---toke up, dudes. You'll never miss those IQ points anyway

I'd argue with you, peter, but given your history of toking up, you may be one of those afflicted with shriveled up parts of the brain.....it wouldn't be fair.

I think Plant is drunk when he writes such nonsense. You ever see an autopsy on an alcoholics brain? Not pretty.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('careinke', 'I') think Plant is drunk

Actually I'm insulating the crawlspace under my cabin. The state of Alaska has a nifty program where the state reimburses people who super insulate their homes.....I dithered away precious time traveling around Ireland and now I've got to get this done in the next couple of weeks to meet the deadline so I can get back all the money I've spent on insulation materials and the new heating system.

I put in a 99% efficient multi-fuel boiler system for heat last spring, and now I'm down in the crawlspace putting R33 sheathes on the walls, and two stacked R11 battens up under the floor. Jeez...working up over your head is really a #itch. 8)

Where did the state get the money to pay you? Was it from oil revenue or did they steal it from the citizens?

Its all from state oil revenue and taxes on the big oilcos operating in Alaska. Next time you fill up your gas tank its possible that some infinitesimal part of your money is going to insulate my house. THANKS!

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he team of scientists compared the size, shape, and density of the nucleus accumbens and the amygdala -- a brain region that plays a central role in emotion -- in 20 marijuana users and 20 non-users.

Statistically meaningless but probably going to get funding from the federal government.

Ka-ching! 8)

To be statistically significant where controls=20 and subjects=20, the change in size would have HUGE. Especially when there is going to be a baseline variation in size that can't be defined in a population that small. That's where you need a statistical "training set" of maybe 200 subjects just to establish the normal variability.

Of course.

Rather than the marijuana causing the brain damage, its remotely possible that people with abnormally small or damaged brain areas are preferentially motivated to smoke marijuana.

Autopsy shows the young man who charged policeman and was shot in Missouri was stoned on pot

Michael Brown was on pot when he charged the policeman

We've had a week of race riots over this, and now the facts come out. Mr. Brown was stoned on pot. He robbed a store and assaulted the owner (caught on videotape) and then he wandered out into the middle of the street. Ten minutes later a policeman asked him to move out of the middle of the street and he charged the cop.

Michael Brown was stoned on pot. NO wonder he was acting so crazy.

How sad.
