I had a good laugh at this thread.
I have personally had experience of being a World Emperor, via Civilisation and Alpha Centauri, and basically it's just endless wars and domination, so all I can say is I'm a bit better than Shrub at it.
Actually, on Phillip K Dick lines, do you think if we (reversing The Penultimate Truth) put all the warmongers in a big simulator, where they thought they were fighting endless wars of conquest, we could get on with our powerdown lives peacefully?

i wouldnt do anything. im one of those people that thinks nothing can, or should be done about oil depletion. i think we should let nature take its course because the alternative, such as sterilization, one child policies etc., are actually going to cause worse damage than doing nothing.
if you seriously believe 5 billion people are going to die off, then let them die off. why make people's lives a misery in the meantime?

A. you have a lot of knowledge of things to come. Allmost the best there is.
That means you know what technologies will be forthcoming. What nations will have the best chances etc.
So what do we do:
A. Invest in the technologies which are most efficient, cheap and best to invest in for the long term future.
B. Invest in relationships with the best nations for the future
C. Slowly try to ween your people off public transport and all further inefficient stuffs.
D. Try to be "friends" with everyone or you will NUKE em. (you are world emperor right so that means Nukes)
E. Bulk all sorts of stuff (oil, grain, silver, iron, gold etcetera strategic reserves for 2 years

It is my obseravtion that every person whoever attempted to gain world power met a rather unfortunate end.

My first order of business would be to invade the middle east and Unite the countries there into a single unified empire. I'd make Baghdad my capital city and appoint Saddam Hussein as my minister of foreign policy.
Everyone else on the planet can go about there buisness anyway they want. With my hands on the oil valve I'd declare the new basket price for oil to be 100 "cubes" per barrel. What is a "cube" you ask? That's the official currency of my empire.
