From the frozen deserts of Iceland to the built-up city of Cape Town, these places are all ideal for surviving an apocalypse scenario.

Iceland

As Insider reports, Iceland is hundreds of miles away from any other land, so it shouldn’t be a target in a World War 3 scenario.

What’s more, it’s a great spot for fishing, so survivors would have an abundant food supply to keep them going until the world is rebuilt.

Isle of Lewis

This Scottish island is self sufficient and situated three hours away from the mainland.

Simply put, it’s a nice enough place to live without attracting any attention to yourself.

Antarctica

It may be a bit nippy, but in a worst-case scenario, you’d probably be safe if you managed to carve out a life in the continent’s barren wastes.

Kansas City

In the event of a non-nuclear war, this is the place to be. The city is surrounded by fertile farmland, and is the ideal spot to defend against attackers.

Yukon

One of Canada’s most remote regions, the Yukon province is well off the grid.

To make matters even better, it’s a mineral-rich area which is jam packed with wildlife, meaning you could get rich and eat well whilst waiting for the apocalypse to blow over.

Bern

Switzerland simply doesn’t take sides, preferring to remain neutral throughout every major conflict.

And Bern, the Swiss capital, is easily-defensible to boot, not that war is likely to come to Switzerland.

    It doesn’t matter who wins the election. The monk that determined our modern calendar in approx. 200 AD was off by 4 years. Take a look at what’s going on in the world now. The Mayan prediction was for a major event in Dec. 2012; per the erroneous calendar. Guess what, the adjustment for that error makes it Dec. 2016 ! The Mayans knew something about time and space that went above any native/common knowledge.

    Actually, it doesn’t matter where on earth you happen to be as fallout will get you anyway.
    That stuff is a worse killer than the original bomb blasts. Look at where the minimal stuff that left Chernobyl went and did. Nuclear war would give Maximum Stuff in the air worldwide.

    Yukon area maybe if flooding and radiation does not kill you.

    Guam is a major target especially for the china and NK.

    Any island CANNOT be defended well and will be subject to flooding and tidal waves.

    If all out or even a regional nuke war will cause immense radiation to cover the Earth. The southern hemisphere should be safer. except Australia and New Zealand.

    If a Chemical war being isolated would be a good plan. If Biological and airborne the more isolated the better and have a way to limit access of outsiders.

    Cape Towns the best. Good climate and scenery, great wineries, good food, surrounded by oceans, no threat to the big powers, low fallout. Definite sanctuary for all the world’s big shots. Unless there’s one asshole who gets left behind with a few nukes at his disposal.

    This is just silly. It has a far off town at the tip of South America, and then Iceland, then it also lists Kansas City, right in the middle of the coutry that will be most bombarded. Because it’s in the middle of fertile farmland. Well, so are many other places. Why Kansas City and not some place out in the middle of Nevada, or in the isolated Baja peninsula in Mexico.

    I am a retired USAF NCO. I am knowledgeable of what happens if multiple nuclear bombs go off on multiple continents in a close measure of time. The fallout goes high into the atmosphere and into the jet stream. The stream carries it around the world. Some goes into the ocean where the currents carry it around the world. When the world is poisoned and cancer is rampant, we all die. You can try to dig a hole but radioactive contamination will get everyone. Lets hope this never happens over petty Globalist issues.

    Should Russia do a first strike nuclear attack, the automatic USA Nuclear counter attack that would be automatically triggered would cover the entire Soviet Union in 24 hours with a variety of different types nukes – some of which are especially design to defeat Russian defense systems. Putin would be committing suicide. The massive radiation fallout will be in both the atmosphere and the oceans. Any fish caught after a full nuclear exchange will likely have radiation poisoning and would be unedible. Even a limited tactical nukes exchange- the fallout area can be a radius of 100 miles … regular nukes as high as a few hundred miles and for scaleable H-bombs a fallout of up to thousand miles from the blast after a week or so. An all out exchange – would cause a Global Nuclear Winter which would destroy crops and livestock on a global scale – this would cause a global famine — anyone with food will be the target of any hungry survivors. Maybe the people on the international space station might escape the nuclear exchange but there won’t be much to come home to. If it is not destroyed in the first 48 hours of exchange a Nuclear Sub would be safe too – until the food runs out…. then it is the replaying of that Monty Python life boat skit…

    Stornoway, on the Isle of Lewis is only 165 miles flying from the British nuclear submarine base at Faslane so it’s not actually that safe! Plus, the seas between Iceland/Scotland and the north of Scotland are a strategic route to the Arctic.

    It’s a lovely place but you should probably take it off your list, sorry!

    My concern is not that Putin would do a first strike nuclear attack but that possibly a crazy US President would thinking he could wipe out 100% of the old Soviet Nuclear Arsenal in one blow. Putin might be aggressive sociopath but he still has his marbles. Because many safeguards have been removed to deal with Terrorism – it is possible that a paranoid sociopath US President suffering from early dementia could be triggered by some questionable situation to issue a nuclear attack based on questionable evidence that the USA is under a clear and present danger of an eminent nuclear attack. In World War II – Stalin made a deal with Adolf Hitler to stay out of Hitler’s gun sights – only to be double crossed by Adolf Hitler – the Soviet Union’s Army suffered greatly due to Stalin strategic miscalculation. I doubt Putin will make the same mistake… but a crazy guy with a loaded gun is still a crazy guy with a loaded gun

    One of the safer place from Nuclear fallout would be in the interior of a mountain range like the Alps, Urals, or The Rockies. The local weather system of the mountains limit the amount of radioactive fallout reaching the interior. Still some radiation would be presence and one would have to be prepare to deal with it. Most people won’t know or be prepared to survive and will screw up and die in a Nuclear World War III.

    It is a sign of ignorance that some here are blaming religion for all our problems. The truth is the tendency of humans to corrupt everything that they touch is the problem. Our founding fathers warned that America and our Republic would only survive when governed by righteous men. As we allowed ourselves to be corrupted by elements of Socialism, Communism and Marxism, that many decades ago began to influence or social and educational systems, we began to fall apart. Godless people love to blame religion, but Christianity isn’t a religion, it’s a personal relationship with your God. The rest is up to you. But atheists and agnostics will never understand. But at the end of their days, they will face the same God as all of us, and they alone will be responsible for their lives.

    I have owned and operated a survival related business (survivalebooks) for over eight years now. Fall out maps related data is not a secret we have been selling those books for as long as we have been open.

    In the real world you would have to find a hole (fallout shelter) and be able to survive there for years with what food and water you have stored up.

    If you are lucky enough to be in artic areas you might be able to survive there if you had long term food stores. In the real world the artics have small groups of researchers there that have to food and supplies flown in to them on a regular basis. The Russians have a smaller base there also. It would be very hard life without supply drops.

    both the USA and Russia withdrew from the ABM treaty in 2002 – there are now a dozen nations with ABM defense systems deployed now – which offer some level of defense/safety from a direct nuclear blast, e.g. Isreal’s ABM system is called the Arrow. If you’re a billionaire I suppose you could buy a Chinese ABM system – but the operating manual would likely in Chinese and the English translations might have errors in it.

    EGOR, Religion IS to blame for most of the wars and problems of the world. Note who runs the Empire. Jews. Notice who believes that their psychosis is the only true one and requires that they win at ALL costs. Since they do not fear death due to their ‘beliefs” they will do anything to get to heaven. Including genocide.

    Throw in Catholics and the other “Christian” beliefs and you get wars and greed and power hungry leaders. (Yes, I know that Jews are technically NOT Christians, but they are even worse. Throughout history they have been money grubbers and a self-righteous people for the most part.)

    If war or other disaster’s happen the best place to be is underground, as deep as you can get with as many supplies as you can gather. A supply of clean and radiation free air and water could be easily facilitated in several ways in large deep caves. Many have water sources which are 40000 years old and pure!

    The US and Russia have a combined total of over 15,000 nuclear warheads, enough to render the entire planet uninhabitable to humans several times over. Between that, and hundreds of nuclear reactors that will not be maintained properly after such an apocalypse (which will result in hundreds of Chernobyls), there will be no place left on Earth safe from the radioactive fallout.

    Makati1, religion was not the cause of every war. It did not cause WWI, WWII, the Korean War or the Vietnam War. It did not cause the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 or the Civil War. In fact the only religious wars have been in the middle east & those were not world wars with the possible exception of Bush’s war on terror. As for the other problems in the world, since when did religion cause the alleged global warming? When did it cause pollution? Or Communism? Or virus outbreaks or illnesses like Zika or the black plague? The Rwandan genocide had nothing to do with religion. & greed & a hunger for power have nothing to do with religion. If religion didn’t exist there would still be greed, hunger for power, war, genocide, crime & poverty in the world. Because the problem is human nature, not religion. & if no one believed in life after death at least some people would most likely be even worse than they are now, because they’d know that there would be no consequences for their bad behavior thus they would have no incentive to be good. Bad people don’t pay attention to the Golden Rule any more than they pay attention to religious guidelines.

    Dig deeper, Lacee. Dig deeper. Religion is the direct or indirect cause of almost all wars in history. Especially European wars. Jews manipulating governments and banking are in the background. That is why they are almost universally hated today all over the world.

    They owned most of the businesses and banks in the depression era of pre WW2 Germany. (And most of the Western world, like today.) That is the reason they were driven out of Germany. So much REAL history is NOT taught by the education systems today. THAT is why we still go to war over stupid ideas and beliefs.

    Kansas is a poor choice. I think there are nukes sites there. The whole state would turn to glass , Russia would hit it with about a hundred nukes…I mean they have 7000 divide 50 into 7000 and that’s 140 per state. So is Guam….the U.S probably has hidden nukes there, Russia knows is so it would be glassed up too. Bern , a bad choice, it’s in the middle of NATO country , it would have so much fallout from east and west you probably couldn’t even read a newspaper in broad day light with the sun out.     I’m a bit surprise about Guam making it to the list. all of the place that has a military base are the one that has a high risk of being nuke. and surprisingly Guam has one of the biggest US military base in the pacific.

    It really depends on the scenario. But under most scenarios Guam and Kansas City would not be good choices. For scenarios involving conflict with Russia, Iceland would be a poor choice. Control of the North Atlantic would be vital for Russia and control of Iceland would determine who controls the North Atlantic. Iceland would be a battleground.

    no one has to hit us with a nuc just pop it off in space over the u.s. and right away you kill 500,000 people on machines in our hospitals. everything electric would stop working chaos would insue we’ed kill each other by the 100’s of thousands.
