WE live in dangerous times, and the threat of global annihilation is always lurking just around the corner.
Nuclear war is always a lingering threat, and recent escalations over Syria risk reviving Cold War tensions between hostile nuclear powers.
But what if we told you that there are some safe havens where you’d stand a good chance of surviving the end of the world?
From the frozen deserts of Iceland to the built-up city of Cape Town, these places are all ideal for surviving an apocalypse scenario.
Better get booking those flights before it’s too late, because these are the nine best places to be when it all goes Pete Tong for humanity.
As Insider reports, Iceland is hundreds of miles away from any other land, so it shouldn’t be a target in a World War 3 scenario.
What’s more, it’s a great spot for fishing, so survivors would have an abundant food supply to keep them going until the world is rebuilt.
This Scottish island is self sufficient and situated three hours away from the mainland.
Simply put, it’s a nice enough place to live without attracting any attention to yourself.
It may be a bit nippy, but in a worst-case scenario, you’d probably be safe if you managed to carve out a life in the continent’s barren wastes.
In the event of a non-nuclear war, this is the place to be. The city is surrounded by fertile farmland, and is the ideal spot to defend against attackers.
One of Canada’s most remote regions, the Yukon province is well off the grid.
To make matters even better, it’s a mineral-rich area which is jam packed with wildlife, meaning you could get rich and eat well whilst waiting for the apocalypse to blow over.
South Africa’s wealthiest city, Cape Town could be a good place to hide out in comfort.
Since the African nation keeps itself relatively clear of Western influences, there’s a good chance that Cape Town will be so far out of the way that World War 3 won’t even reach it.
An easily-defendible island with a strong military presence, Guam is a wise place to hole up if you want to survive a worldwide conflict.
Switzerland simply doesn’t take sides, preferring to remain neutral throughout every major conflict.
And Bern, the Swiss capital, is easily-defensible to boot, not that war is likely to come to Switzerland.
This collection of islands is one of the remotest places on Earth, and is a top fishing spot.
We can think of far worse places to spend the end of the world than on a stunning island paradise in the middle of nowhere.

Some here do not quite understand what the aftermath of an all out nuclear war would entail. Lets start with this
noun: nuclear winter; plural noun: nuclear winter- a period of abnormal cold and darkness predicted to follow a nuclear war, caused by a layer of smoke and dust in the atmosphere blocking the sun’s rays.
Five megatons of black carbon enter the atmosphere immediately. Black carbon comes from burned stuff and it absorbs heat from the sun before it can reach the Earth. Some black carbon does eventually falls back to Earth in rain.
After one year, the average surface temperature of the Earth falls by 1.1 kelvin, or about two degrees Fahrenheit. After five years, the Earth is, on average, three degrees colder than it used to be. Twenty years on, our home planet warms again to about one degree cooler than the average before the nuclear war.
Earth’s falling temperatures reduces the amount of rain the planet receives. Year five after the war, Earth will have 9 percent less rain than usual. Year 26 after the war, Earth gets 4.5 percent less rain than before the war.
In years 2-6 after the war, the frost-free growing season for crops is shortened by 10 to 40 days, depending on the region.
Chemical reactions in the atmosphere eat away Earth’s ozone layer, which protects Earth’s inhabitants from ultraviolet radiation. In the five years after the war, the ozone is 20 to 25 percent thinner, on average. Ten years on, the ozone layer has recovered so that it’s now 8 percent thinner.
The decreased UV protection may lead to more sunburns and skin cancers in people, as well as reduced plant growth and destabilized DNA in crops such as corn.
In a separate study, published in 2013, International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War estimated 2 billion people would starve in the wake of a 100-A-bomb war.

Come on. Long term no one would survive a global nuclear war! Further, Hillary obviously doesn’t know how to manage Putin. Look were we are now, with Russia having nuclear war drills.
The only thing Putin respects is power. Trump with all his failings understands power and Putin.

EVEN THE SAFEST PLACE IS NOT SAFE!!! and tell this to the people that control ALL this WMD’s!!!
BUNKERS DEEP UNDERGROUND WHICH CONSIDER THE SAFEST PLACE TO BE. SURE!!! BUT SURVIVAL REMAINS THE SAME, BECAUSE OF HUMAN NEEDS SUCH AS 1)food 2)water 3)lighting 4)medications/health problems, and everything that human needs to survive.
Can you live in a bunkers for years? No! Body needs energy from the sun. Healthy as it can be living under ground??? Maybe, maybe not…
So WHY THINK about war???, when life is good as it is now??? Well, leave that question to some of the smartest people on Earth, IF WE HAVE ANY!!! Lol…

Kansas City, despite it’s farmlands would be a stupid place, because of it’s strategic oil, military assets and un-defendable open borders.
Of the Americas, only western-most South America would be survivable, and capable of agriculture sufficient to sustain survivors.
Joe Donahue on Sun, 16th Oct 2016 9:12 am
War is Stupid!!! Everyone knows, “ya can’t fix Stupid.”
Russia knows the horrors of war from Stalingrad, and will not use the bomb.
China knows the horrors of war from the rape of Nanchang. and again will not use the bomb.
The U.S.A. Knows the horrors of war from multiple wars, and will not use the bomb.
All three are so connected to global economics that using the bomb would be economic suicide for the nation the launched.
So who is left? The Fat Crazy Pig in North Korea? China will take care of it’s child soon enough.
Charles Bandrofcheck on Sun, 16th Oct 2016 9:15 am
There will be radioactive ash in the whole atmosphere. So there is no real safe place to be.
You could probably go to one of the places mentioned to avoid being killed in an explosion, but the entire world will be inhabitable.

I read someplace that even a small scale nuclear exchange will put up enough soot to cause a nuclear winter. E.g 100 nuke exchange between Pakistan and India. When Saudi gets its own nukes forget it, its on with Islam versus the nukes we pretend Israel does not have.
Dick Fowler on Sun, 16th Oct 2016 9:27 am
I would head South, probably to Costa Rica. As a life long world globe trotter to me it would be the safest bet, mostly because nothing in South or Central America pose a global threat to nuclear powers, so would not be targets. Costa Rica because it is both mountainous, has two accessible oceans within a days reach, excellent medical care and because it is easy to survive off the land. It is also underpopulated and off the trade winds so would direct fallout elsewhere.
Tony on Sun, 16th Oct 2016 9:31 am
The people who comprised this list overlooked a great deal. Such as; wind patterns which will distribute fallout around most of the globe, causing massive crop failure and radiation sickness as well as nuclear winter. It would take several years just for the weather to become normal enough for agricultural endeavors. How long radiation contamination would remain after that, who knows? It wouldn’t go away soon.
Total breakdown of civil order is almost a certainty in all areas except perhaps a few tribal territories where time proven local authority could remain, providing the regions are buffered from fallout. A few such places exist. Some of those areas are deep within the Amazon near the equator. There are few nuclear targets nearby and the earth’s wind patterns do not circulate from target rich areas, such as Europe, Asia, and North America to the equator.
A good example of such a place is described in A. A. Brown’s book entitled “The Shaman’s Dream.” It was an eye opener about post apocalyptic scenarios. It’s available at Amazon Kindle for $2.99. Under A. A. Brown. If you want a realistic picture, check it out.

I agree with drkronmiller, As a Capitalist and Businessman, Trump would chew Putin up and spit him out. Simply put…No contest. You wipe out the world and who do you have to bully and rob from? No One. Putin, you’re a dumb ass.

This is a good article outlining the current dynamics of the Syrian conflict. Choose your sides if you like but more importantly chose to see the multi-dimensional nature of the conflict in this region.

Bob on Sun, 16th Oct 2016 9:41 am
The only ones who got this right were the ones who said nowhere is survivable. Take the Costa Rica one. They have good medical care. There medical care depends on getting supplies from the rest of the world. No supplies, no medical care. Just one example. The guy who said he hope one hits him on the head is right too. In a nuclear war the best thing is to be obliterated instantly rather then a slow painful death through radiation poisoning or starvation or by getting killed by the mobs there would be trying to get what you have so they can try to survive.

Those who think Trump can prevent this by going to bed with Putin are living in a dream world. Think about Putin’s true agenda and what will happen to the world if the US supports that, and ultimately what will happen to the US. Can we really afford to dump all our allies and make enemies worldwide, many of which have nuclear capabilities equal to Russia, in order to curry favor with this particular madman? What does Russia offer in return? Nothing!

A nuclear war would be essentially a scenario where if the world were made of gasoline and a nation took a lit match (nuclear bomb)– where are you going to throw it? The moment you launch it it’s game over, never mind retaliation. It is THE worst, illogical idea as a strategic weapon in practice. The only value is in it’s psychological value before use– which is a paradox.
don0522 on Sun, 16th Oct 2016 10:35 am
Most people in the southern hemisphere would survive. Almost all people in the northern would not. WWIII is guaranteed to be nuclear. Hillary already told us she would impose a no-fly zone over Syria. She said it in the 2nd debate. That means she would shoot down Russian planes and kill Russians. While that might not immediately start a nuclear exchange, it would happen withing a month or 2. In the USA, maybe 100,000 people would survive in Alaska. Maybe 1000 in the continental USA, all in the Rockies.

Kansas City? What a dolt. Kansas City is a marked target for attack.
Cape Town? I lived in Cape Town for 15 years. South Africa is now a toilet because of the ANC rule and the murder and crime rate are horrific in South Africa. The locals would go on a rampage if anything happened.

Beyond the fact that this entire article was lifted in it’s entirety from “The Sun”…
(Article: The end is nigh Here are nine of the safest places in the world to survive a third world war; Link: https://www.thesun.co.uk/living/1981979/here-are-nine-of-the-safest-places-in-the-world-to-survive-a-third-world-war/
…Kansas City would be a horrible place to try and survive a Nuclear War. Kansas City is a major Rail Hub as well as a Major Airport. In addition Kansas City is just East of Fort Riley, home of the Big Red One which will be bombed into oblivion. If anyone doubts that Kansas City will be Nuked, they you are fooling yourself. Indeed, the majority of the central and northern American plains will be radioactive because of the nuclear silos and military bases that are located throughout the region.
Furthermore, Guam is a linchpin in the United States strategic bomber operations, so it will also be a target. Period.
Whoever wrote this article doesn’t know what they are talking about. Period!
In short, there is nowhere on Earth that would be safe from WW III that involves the use of Nuclear Weapons. Anyone who thinks that they can avoid the consequences and affects is delusional and deserves what happens to them if the sh!t hits the fan.
Peace.

Seriously bad advice. You might be able to survive a little longer in the southern hemisphere due to the separation of atmospheric conditions at the equator (and the coriolis effect) but eventually, everyone dies, and fairly soon. If you can’t grow crops or drink water – game over.

NORTH KOREAN DISEASE
==================
This war mongering activity only proves that Putin has been infested with the North Korean War Mongering Disease (NKWMD)
this is a contagious malady originating from Kim, Leader of North Korea,
To President Obama on the other hand; …It is when a male marries a female, that humans think of protecting civilians (man protecting woman) during wars.
When male marries a male & female marries females…there is no sense of protection of civilians, like Russia purporting to have bunkers for Godly-Married Russian civilians.
Let USA legalize non-war protection of civilians…just as President Obama legalized homosexuality.
