Iceland
As Insider reports, Iceland is hundreds of miles away from any other land, so it shouldn’t be a target in a World War 3 scenario.
What’s more, it’s a great spot for fishing, so survivors would have an abundant food supply to keep them going until the world is rebuilt.
Isle of Lewis
This Scottish island is self sufficient and situated three hours away from the mainland.
Simply put, it’s a nice enough place to live without attracting any attention to yourself.
Antarctica
It may be a bit nippy, but in a worst-case scenario, you’d probably be safe if you managed to carve out a life in the continent’s barren wastes.
Kansas City
In the event of a non-nuclear war, this is the place to be. The city is surrounded by fertile farmland, and is the ideal spot to defend against attackers.
Yukon
One of Canada’s most remote regions, the Yukon province is well off the grid.
To make matters even better, it’s a mineral-rich area which is jam packed with wildlife, meaning you could get rich and eat well whilst waiting for the apocalypse to blow over.

If we’re talking about war between the U.S. and Russia, most of sub-Saharan Africa would be one of the best places to be when the bombs fall. Most of those countries have nothing to do with most of the cold war events.

You can’t run a country with a thin skin.
One negative comment from Putin or any other leader for that matter could turn into a destabilizing event. You right wingers love that kind of rhetoric. Most of us prefer a more level headed aproach.

there is not place int he world to hide, from a nuclear attack the water will be contaminated oceans,rivers,lakes, fish will be poisoning, sorry to be harsh but we all gonna die, the planet the land will take 50 years at least to recover the nuclear contamination.
Since many are involving politics as far as trump and Hillary I would rather join God in prayers instead of choosing any candidates both are firm and ready for battle there is not better than the other one the difference is that if it is a Woman they tend to be more reasoning and peace makers instead of jumping and throwing our troops into a miserable war.

I haven’t read the comments yet but my initial reaction to the article is, outside of Iceland, which can rely on geothermal, how are most of these other regions going to continue to live in a modern industrial society without hydrocarbons to burn? I doubt survivors would be able to continue to burn hydrocarbons except on a marginal scale.

Unfortunately the Bible is quite clear and has been accurate to what has happened in the past so it can be relied on to what it says about the future.
1) 2.4+ Billion will die.
2) All the living things in the oceans will die.
3) 1/3 of all the trees in the world will be burned.
4) 1/3 of all the present drinking water will be poisoned or contaminated.
Jesus said if God did not shorten the days on Earth, there would be no living thing alive on Earth.
5) Your only hope of escaping and living past this disaster is learning how to be saved through Jesus – Look it up in Google.

You are not thinking. Kansas City is in the middle of a ICB field. Iceland is in the middle of strategic seaways and would be the middle of the second battle of the Atlantic. Might even get invaded. Guam is a strategic base and SAC refueling point for strikes on China. would be taken out in the first 20 min of a exchange. Switzerland is down wind from hundreds of NATO targets. South Africa would have to pick sides. No place is safe. Hurd Island maybe, but it is French.

The global fallout scenario used in On The Beach has been largely refuted scientifically as has the long-term nuclear winter idea. Seems that fallout and soot from firestorms have a fairly short residence time in the atmosphere; weeks to months; a year perhaps. Gravity and “rain seeding” do the job pretty efficiently. Not saying it matters much. Civilization as we know it would be toast,, literally.

Ghung, I am sure the NUK winter issues is more like a climate disturbance of some king that would influence crops negatively in a significant way but not as bad as the worst case versions. I am going to research that more. The real issues will be crops will not get planted because the system that plants crops will be so disrupted. We can expect a global food system that is inoperable. That alone will kill off 2/3 of the world population. The scary thing is that could be a good thing depending on who you are and where you are. Davy; There have been numerous studies, and almost all agree there would be some degree of global cooling. Much of it depends on how many firestorms are created and how long they burn. Some point out that Hiroshima didn’t cause a firestorm, and that cities may not be as ‘combustible’ as originally thought. Hoping we don’t find out.

Truth is they won’t use nukes. They will use chemical weapons. Same results with less problems. The world leaders want to depopulate the earth without destroying it. Easiest way is to use chemical weapons. True they may use a few nukes in key places but probably not an all out nuke war. Either way it doesn’t bode well for any of us.
