Putin Threatens Turkey With Nukes

Putin Threatens Turkey With Nukes thumbnail

Award-winning Iran-Contra journalist Robert Parry has been told by a source close to Vladimir Putin that Russia has threatened Turkey with the use of tactical nuclear weapons if it launches a joint invasion of Syria with Saudi Arabia.

Writing for Consortium News, Parry warns that the risk of the United States and its allies escalating the conflict in Syria to rescue rebels who are now on the verge of defeat could spark “World War III”.

“If Turkey (with hundreds of thousands of troops massed near the Syrian border) and Saudi Arabia (with its sophisticated air force) follow through on threats and intervene militarily to save their rebel clients, who include Al Qaeda’s Nusra Front, from a powerful Russian-backed Syrian government offensive, then Russia will have to decide what to do to protect its 20,000 or so military personnel inside Syria,” writes Parry.

“A source close to Russian President Vladimir Putin told me that the Russians have warned Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan that Moscow is prepared to use tactical nuclear weapons if necessary to save their troops in the face of a Turkish-Saudi onslaught. Since Turkey is a member of NATO, any such conflict could quickly escalate into a full-scale nuclear confrontation.”

Parry’s background suggests the information should be treated seriously. He covered the Iran-Contra scandal for the Associated Press and Newsweek and was later given a George Polk award for his work on intelligence matters.

According to Parry, although President Obama has “sought to calm Erdogan down and made clear that the U.S. military would not join the invasion,” he has been “unwilling to flatly prohibit such an intervention”.

Moscow’s alleged threat to repel a Turkish invasion of Syria with nuclear weapons follows comments by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in which he warned of a new world war if the United States and its allies send ground troops into Syria.

Turkey and Saudi Arabia have both signaled they are considering a ground invasion of Syria in order to aid refugees and so-called “moderate rebels” fighting against the Assad regime.

Last week, Turkish officials called for a “safe zone” to be established within Syria to allow refugees to flee Russia’s advance, although the United States argued that such a corridor could not be set up without a no fly zone.

Saudi Arabia is currently conducting the biggest wargames the region has seen for a quarter of a century. Northern Thunder involves 150,000 troops from 20 countries and is viewed by some as a precursor to a possible invasion of Syria.

Earlier this month, Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir told CNN that President Bashar al-Assad will have to be removed “by force” if the political process fails.

Despite official denials that the kingdom possesses nuclear weapons, Saudi political analyst told RT’s Arabic network last week that the Saudis have indeed obtained the bomb and that tests will be conducted soon.

Lets see. Last week the U.S. fired two nuclear tipped rockets from CA Westward. The Pentagon announced that that was a message to China that U,S, will use nukes in a war. No comments from the peanut gallery and now a possible invented quote attributed to a “putin” has people orgasming over the might of the U.S. military. Why isn’t the “mainstream media” reporting this? Far more significant is the lack of reporting on the total destabilization of the Middle East caused by U.S. military destruction of Iraq, overthrowing Libya’s dictator, etc. endless. Democrats and Republicans get away with their reckless policies is that our media essentially protect them by not cover reality- repercussions of their foreign policy. Talk failure of the media is momentous.

The greatest affirmative action booby in all of American history has finally done it ! After Clinton led the Zionist administrators in the media, American government, and civil rights organizations to support her death threat to the sovereign leader of the Syrian people, Obama operates behind the scenes to gamble the lives of billions of innocent people in order to make good her Zionist death threat. However, the world is still demanding that Obama remove his belly from the banks of the Dnieper and go home. He must begin to have a concern for Americans, stop payments to his assassins, and come home.

Good for Putin! Syria is Russian ally and that means HANDS OFF Syria! Russia has the right to use tactical nukes on invading Turkish/Saudi troops as Syria is a sovereign country recognized by the UN as such. Furthermore, Syria is NOT invading any neighboring country and should be left alone! Syria is NOT Serbia, you know, for NATO to play some war-games and partition the country at will

These insane leaders in Turkey, saudi arabia, US, China, Russia, EU have to rule over the rest and know that everything is collapsing and have their underground world and have prepared for nuclear war to remove most people so they can have everything for themselves. They will have WWIII and soon and most of us will e dead while the media keeps saying everything is fine. Very few will be prepared but the Russians say they are. Most Americans aren’t. they have no clue

Turkey is not any country, it has a long tradition of an Empire which dominated the region for over 600 years, thus its power can not be confined with military actions of outdated Russian politics. Current Russian politicians might not forget the Cuban missile crises that ended the Russian domination in Cuba, Syria conflict will throw out Russia from region.

This development has been going on for a couple of years and this is why the US started to distance itself from Turkey and Saudi Arabia. The same apply to Egypt. Russia is doing the right thing. It is acting in its best interest and according to the will and wishes of the Syrian people. Turkey and Saudi Arabia are playing with fire. They want to shape the Middle East accoring to their interests which means wars. The approachment between the US and Iran is part of this talk.

The government of Syria actually is still in control. It is more legitimate than any terrorists groups trying to take over the government. Assad should declare no fly zone for unfriendly forces and shoot down any plane entering it’s sky without permission. It will also be interesting to see if the house of Saud is actually capable of invading Syria without having to worry of their own citizens taking over the government.

  26. karl on Sun, 28th Feb 2016 1:51 pm

FIrst of all, these military operations of the “West” in Syria is not a NATO-sanctioned operation — each actor is operating outside the ageas of NATO.

Therefore, should Turkey and Saudi Arabia unilaterally invade Syria, it is not a NATO operation, therefore — NATO is not obligated under Chapter 5 of it’s charter to defend any member…..and in this particular scenario, it’s not likely they will.

That said, Russia is absolutely within international law to do whatever it takes to defend the sovereign territory of it’s treatied ally. Under international law, as they were invited by the lawful and legitimate government of the sovereign nation of Syria, the Russians are entitled to defend Syria as if it is their own sovereign territory being invaded.

    Simple as that.

  27. Paul on Sun, 28th Feb 2016 1:53 pm

Don´t write horse shit that Russia has no chance against turkish army. Those idiots are even afraid of some few kurds running around and suffer heavy casaulties when they fight them. It shows only the weakness not of Russia but Turkey when they are afraid to see kurds gaining territory in Syria. I am asking is Syria part of Turkey? So WTF do they have to say about it!!! Just wait when Russia will supply the kurds with the most modern weapons and fight together against Turkey, cut all the gas then Turkey will fold in days quickly! Getting their marine stuck in the Black Sea? What a joke. They will bomb the Bosporus to a state when Turkey will loose control of that little passage in a matter of hours and suddenly your Turkey would be unable to operate outside of their borders. Russians will get permission from Iran and Iraq to move tropps to Syria and Turkey will be crying and calling Nato for help when it will be too late for them. So the thing is Turkey has no chance against a huge empire called Russia and don´t dare to provoke the russians. It is not Russia who shot down a turkish plane.

Such talk brings nations to the brink of madness. A nuclear war, no matter how limited would devastate lands far and near with the fallout effects of such radioactive elements as Cesium. Look at how the lands around and north of Chernobyl are still poisonous. These are mediocre leaders at best calling each other out like little boys in a school yard. I have a rock! I have stick! I have friends! All to keep a ruthless dictator who has killed innocent women and children with barrel bombs and the like so that he can stay in power. These tribes have been at each other since the establishment of Sumer, Ur, and Chaldea. It will never end as long as the man with the weapon is in charge.

we back our allies all the time as Russia and Syria are allies putin has to back them or he will not be trusted to back anyone else that he has as allies. if a nation ( not just rebels ) attacks the Syrian gov. and he fails to back them as he has told them he will he will lose face across the world. We forget what we should have learned from the past. WW1 was not started by Germany, they were forced in by treaties with other nations and yet here we go again. God save as from people that forget the past.

I think people are forgetting that Turkey has enough nukes to level Russia. NATO has around if not more than 200 Nuclear missiles on standby in Turkey. Also Pakistan has nukes it said it would not hesitate to use on Russia if Turkey were attacked, Please uninformed people and Russian propagandist be careful of what you wish for!

  32. ed12642 on Sun, 28th Feb 2016 2:22 pm

Funny how it’s acceptable for Turkey and Saudi Arabia to threaten invasion but Russia is considered “out of control”. Try looking at the situation. Start by asking yourself why Turkey or S.A. wouldn’t join the coalition? This would be like killing your brothers as both countries want a radical Islamic region. ISIS, Nursa Front, Free Syrian Army, etc are all doing their work for them – cleansing the area of “non-believers”. On the other hand Syria is the only secular country in the region and most don’t see any connection. My genealogy buddy (and cousin) lives in Latakia, SY. When Senator John McCain met with the leader of the Free Syrian Army and asked the USA to arm his “moderates” I received an email. My cousin indicated how stupid the USA was to believe in their “cause”. She related three examples around Latakia where hundreds of unarmed villagers were murdered by the FSA because they were not Sunni and would not go along with the FSA’s radical Islamic ideals. This is first-hand information as she visited these villages, talked with and fed survivors. Some of the abducted children were recognized by their parents in a video of the Sarin gas attack in Damascus. Three years ago she informed me it was common knowledge Turkey was the country buying ISIS oil which recently came to light in an article about Erdogan’s son (most likely Erdogan himself). So what’s the point here? Don’t form opinions when you’re being fed lies by a US tainted media. Her last comment was that the Russian involvement was the best thing that has happened since the start of the war (to keep these so-called moderates from killing them all).

  33. Andy on Sun, 28th Feb 2016 2:24 pm

Putin is acting as stupidly as G. W. Bush. Ignorant people with too much power, beyond their intelligence, and poor, incompetent, power hungry advisors. WWI started with stupid miscalculations, and it can happen again.

Be prepared to bend over as far as you can, and kiss your arse goodbye.

  35. Benson Moono on Sun, 28th Feb 2016 2:28 pm

Putin is not the idiot that a lot of people think he is. He is cunning, deft and calculative. Nothing can stop him from using tactical nuclear weapons against Turkey or the Saudis. He knows the Americans cannot intervene (it is an election year in America, remember? Obama will not want to doom his Democratic party being decimated in the November elections by joining a ‘doesn’t make sense war’ in the middle East. NATO without America is no show,so they won’t join because they don’t have the money & military resources for a sustained, prolonged war.

I hope Turkey and the Saudis don’t do anything stupid by invading Syria, afterall, there really isn’t anything worth fighting for in that country (if I may still call it a country). The only outcome will be tripling oil prices, which will eventually benefit Russian oil fields & that’s exactly the way Putin wants it.

A few hundred cruise missiles striking Turkish airforce bases where there are no US or NATO countries personal stationed
and sending another hundered aircraft to
its bases in Syria will be enough whilst
sending in 20.000 troops arming the YPG .Armenia should help with something as 5000/6000 troops wich will be happy to fight the Ottomans agression.
YPG +PKK reinforcments +Armenian troops + Iranian reinforcments and hundreds of cruisi missiles using conventional HEand Thermobaric warheads will be sufficient to kick the Turks back ( together with their ” proxies”
