Will the US Economic Collapse Happen in 2018? The economic forecast for 2018 is more than bleak, and there is more than enough economic data out there to show there could be an economic collapse and stock market crash in 2018.

Dennis Meadows: “There is nothing that we can do
“FORMAT interviews Dennis Meadows, author of “The Limits to Growth”, about the shocking position of the planet. 40 years ago, Dennis Meadows presented the best seller “The Limits to Growth”. In it, he predicted, not the exact date of the apocalypse, but the U.S. researchers showed by means of computational models, that by mid-century, the resources of planet Earth will be depleted.”
2050 again? Only 32 more years to go. I’ll be 88 by then MM, you’ll be 62. (if you don’t off yourself first)

“Its not about the geography its about the lack of rule of law and a prosperous society”
Strange that, in over two and a half years, I’ve only seen a police officer in the area once, when my neighbour’s wife passed away last winter. Zero crime here, and people have a rather different idea as to what it means to be prosperous.

Dennis Medows didn’t predict anything and he has said many times the limits to growth models are NOT PREDICTIONS. They are mathematical computer simulations. That is why collapse is a mathematical certainty within the next decade! Not 2050 you fucking cowardly bitch! You say bring it on but then you cant even be honest with the timing on limits to growth! – famine will kick off within a couple of weeks
– there will be no medical care available
– violence will start immediately
– unless you are in a VERY remote location with no neighbours and no access — you will be attacked – and any food you have — stolen
– disease will probably start within a few weeks — cholera will be of particular concern since people will be sh it ting everywhere — and feces will get into the water table
– radiation from the ponds will arrive within hours depending on your proximity to the installations – and wind and water currents — in some places it will likely take some weeks.
– this will be global – so there will be no aid agencies coming to the rescue
NEVER has there been a collapse that even remotely resembles this. The World Wars do not even come close. The Great Depression does not even come close.
This will be Total … Permanent … collapse.

Correct. Full circle. The models do not predict human extinction, unless we keep trashing the environment. If we do, (very likely) the models show possible extinction by the fourth quarter of this century.
I’ll be dead by then, and so will you, whether you off yourself first, or not.

You mocked him and next he banned you. You do not mock a guru without consequences, millimind. Kunstler has a reputation to defend and a writing and panel career.
You can accuse Kunstler’s group of a lot of things, but not that they are stupid. I think he is right about America and its empire falling apart and a severe fallback of living conditions in the US will occur after the demise of the petro-dollar and balkanization, just like happened to the USSR for a decade or so (1991-2000), before Vladimir the Great appeared on the scene and fixed things. Yet “geophysical conditions” in the US are NOT bad. America will recover somewhat “after the break”, just like Russia did, but not nearly to the top level it achieved in the nineties.
Regarding “deep state”… Kunstler is muddying the waters and tries to deflect attention away from the real deep state, his own group.

Cloggie, not all of us are afraid of the world outside the West. Some 100,000 plus American live here as permanent residents.
Stat: since 2000, (~6,000 days) less than 300 foreigners have been killed here. That is three days auto deaths in the US or three days of murders in the US. The number of “terrorist” murders in the US, since 2000, is over 300.

“What we know:”
“– the power will go off permanently”
Our local hydro electric facility was upgraded in 2003. Should be good to go for at least another five decades.
“– petrol and diesel will no longer be available”
Less CO2 emissions. A net positive.
“– the shops will be emptied within hours of that happening”
What shops? Most of what I’ve been stocking up on has been bought on Amazon.
“– when the police realize the situation is permanent — they will toss their badges in the bin and return home to protect their families – or join the pillaging”
No police presence here.
“– the military will not waste precious fuel and ammo on maintaining order”
Canada doesn’t even have an effective military.
“– famine will kick off within a couple of weeks”
Lots of food in the forest around here, for anybody willing to get it.
“– there will be no medical care available”
I have training as a first responder, my son in law is a paramedic, and my wife has a PHD.
“– violence will start immediately”
So glad I chose to move far away from densely populated areas.
“– unless you are in a VERY remote location with no neighbours and no access — you will be attacked – and any food you have — stolen”
Ditto.
“– disease will probably start within a few weeks — cholera will be of particular concern since people will be sh it ting everywhere — and feces will get into the water table”
Nobody here to shit everywhere, and their is nobody living between the source of our well water and our well.
“– radiation from the ponds will arrive within hours depending on your proximity to the installations – and wind and water currents — in some places it will likely take some weeks.”
Move 30 or so miles away from any reactors, and you will be just fine.
“– this will be global – so there will be no aid agencies coming to the rescue”
Never had to rely on one yet, as matter of fact, we regularly donate to them.
“NEVER has there been a collapse that even remotely resembles this. The World Wars do not even come close. The Great Depression does not even come close.”
Sounds pretty awful. Glad we moved here when we did.

Sure mad kat, how convenient. That’s what you want. What is more likely the case is the whole world will have its own style of collapse. It also depends on how the end plays out whether that be war, natural disaster and or economic collapse. That simple statement is too deep for someone who is peddling an agenda of how safe he is and how screwed everyone else is. OH, except again conveniently his buddy grehg.

You are on an overpopulated Island facing the worst of nature’s natural disasters including the coming difficulties of climate change. You have food issues that will get you and that is a given.

Yea, nedernazi, I would put your overpopulation problem and climate issues right there with mad kat but you do have an efficient society, for now. Europeans have demonstrated over their entire history their knack for killing each other when times get hard. I suspect with the current overpopulation there things are going to get really nasty one day. I don’t think “groups” are going to matter if the place is overpopulated and unable to support itself. Neighbors that respect fences are not a problem so if an area has groups that are not forced on each other too much I doubt they will be any worse than the situation of the same group crammed together. You stake your life on every decision to get in a car and go somewhere. About 100 people never come home everyday they do that and about nine thousand end up in the hospital and/or crippled for life every day for doing the same.
Prepping, and trying to survive and thrive, is better than a suicide when there is so much to live for. Your “everyone is going to die” bullshit is neither logical nor very intelligently thought out.

MM, did I say “everyone”? No, I said it would not be total. The West is going down the hardest. The East less so. Every country is different with different cultures and resources, ergo, different levels of “crash”. There is even a chance that the new Chinese/Russian gold backed system will be the one to pick up the pieces and move forward. I don’t see them collapsing when the US does.
I suggest you do not listen to the fear mongers in the US propaganda system. They are panicking because they see the cliff. They want the US serfs to demand that they “be kept safe” even at the cost of their freedoms and their life’s blood. Not going to happen. The higher on the ladder, the harder the fall.

There are only 5 roads out of Vancouver. One to the interior, one up the sea to sky corridor, and three to Washington State. None of them lead to where I live.
Hundreds of kilometres of very mountainous terrain, and the Pacific Ocean, say that the Zombie masses would starve to death before they ever made it here.
Not going to happen.
Like I’ve said before, our biggest concern is with climatic instability. If runaway climate change has already kicked in, then the human race is a dead man walking. If not, the only hope that humanity has left, is to leave modern industrialism, before modern industrialism causes a global mass extinction event.
No matter which way you look at it, the future will not be anything like what we’ve all become accustomed to.

Prepping is futile
*Post-collapse Preparation Is the Answer*
Myth: Well-prepared individuals, groups, and communities will survive our impending collapse and maintain healthy, fulfilling, and productive lives in its aftermath.
Reality: Those who survive our collapse will be those who can obtain sufficient life sustaining essentials—especially clean water and food—on a continuous basis, both during and after collapse. Those who store large quantities of these essentials and those who attempt to produce food, either individually or in communities, will be easy targets for the vast majority who have neither the foresight to store nor the skills to produce. No matter how remote or secluded your sanctuary, somebody will know about it; and they will come to call when they become desperate; and they will be well armed and devoid of compassion. You can prepare for a last stand, but you cannot prepare for post-collapse survival. Post-collapse Life Will Be Preferable to Our Industrial Lifestyle Paradigm
Myth: Industrialization has brought nothing but misery and degradation to the human race; our quality of life (and spiritual wellbeing) will improve substantially in a post-collapse world.
Reality: The post-collapse lifestyle awaiting the few who survive will, under the best of circumstances, share many attributes with pre-Columbian America. Unfortunately, the realities associated with subsistence level existence bear little semblance to the Hollywood accounts.
Those who anxiously await our post-collapse world will be disappointed, assuming they live to experience it. The fact that nobody is opting to jettison the amenities afforded by an industrialized way of life in favor of a hunter-gatherer lifestyle today should be sufficient proof that our future way of life is not something to be anticipated. Industrialism is not inherently “evil” or immoral; it is simply physically impossible going forward.

Last winter we had all time historical record snowfall accumulations. 203 cm in my back yard, at a couple of hundred meters above sea level. This winter so far, we’ve had 3cm.
We had more rainfall in one 3 day period in November of 2016, than we’ve had all fall and winter this year so far. The summer before that we were in a severe drought with temperatures in the high 30’s for weeks on end. Last summer was completely normal. The glaciers are retreating at an alarming rate, migratory birds are showing up weeks before normal, and some are even overwintering here now. Two winters ago the flowers bloomed all winter long. We never even had a hard frost.
Last week it was +14ºC here, or 57ºF. The end of January/beginning of February has always been the coldest part of the year. It is completely normal to have temperatures down to -10ºC, or 14ºF for at least a couple of weeks.
There is nothing normal about the weather here anymore, and it continues to get even more abnormal.

Existing oil reserves are scheduled to begin a catastrophic crash within 1 to 3 years. When it hits the economic and social damage will be catastrophic. The end of Western Civilization, from China to Europe, to the US, will not occur when oil runs out. The economic and social chaos will occur when supplies are merely reduced sufficiently….

Humanity faces two choices. Collapse now and die off, or collapse harder later with a even larger die off. There is no comfortable solution to population overshoot.
The limits to growth will eventually be met, and there isn’t a damn thing that the humans can do to stop it now.

Passing legislation in the US alone, making it mandatory to car pool to work on the daily commute, would go a long way to solving near term global oil shortages.
It would do nothing however to solve the larger predicaments of population overshoot, and infinite exponential growth in a finite environment.
