I'm thinking of buying again. I may buy FPL, like I should have done about 3 years ago. They have lots of low carbon energy, and they have done very well lately. I think I'll put some of my retirement on it and spin the wheel. Whee!

Seriously, I have no idea whatsoever how the stock market is going to do, but it seems like most of the gambles I take work out pretty well.

USD is on a bit of a bull run right now - 2 week high, in fact.

Of course, this is exactly NOT what I would expect, especially seeing as future, short-term fed rate cuts are all but a given at this point.

Anyone got anything to add?

I have been reading that it needs to convincingly break through 82 during this run...if it does not...the trip back down is gonna be ugly...like low 70s upper 60s ugly.

IMO it has a long long way to go to get to 82.

Expecting an ECB and/or BOE rate cut in kind. That's why it's rising imho.

Guess we will find out what the ECB does at 6:45 Central tomorrow.

PMs will soar with a cut.

I say they will cut.

The current rally we are seeing is known as a "dead cat bounce." If you never heard that saying it comes from the observation of a cat falling from a high place. A cat jumping off a ten story building could easily survive the fall by landing on its feet. Sometimes the G-force of landing will stop the cat's heart allowing the cat to walk some distance before dieing.

Today the minutes to the last fed meeting came out. They showed the Fed had zero doubts about the rate cut and may not have any issue with more cuts.

Within minutes the Dow was on it's way to a new record and the dollar started dropping after over a week of recovery. Another .4 drop.

This halloween should be good and exciting.

Compare that with this sentiment, released today:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'F')ed Signals No Rush to Lower Interest Rates Again (Update1)

By Craig Torres
Enlarge Image/Details

Oct. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Federal Reserve policy makers signaled they are in no hurry to reduce interest rates again because they aren't convinced the U.S. economic expansion is coming to an end.

The Federal Open Market Committee avoided foreshadowing its next move after lowering the benchmark rate on Sept. 18, minutes of the meeting, published yesterday, showed. Officials didn't want investors to conclude extra cuts were guaranteed, the records said.

Economic reports since then have justified their caution: manufacturing and services industries continued to expand last month, while employment picked up. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has climbed 3 percent to a record since the meeting.

So, among other things, because the DOW is hitting record highs, the economy must be on a growth trend? LOL, the hubris is suffocatingly funny.

This policy mastermind recommends foreign central banks inflict periodic losses on dollar shorts, despite acknowledging nothing can stop the decline.

"At an opportune moment, they could make a sharp and powerful co-ordinated intervention in the currency markets to buy dollars. This surprise move would not change long-term trends, but it would show speculators that shorting the dollar is not always without consequence. The intervention could therefore bolster prospects for an orderly dollar decline and demonstrate that the US and the European Union are capable of jointly using powerful policy levers."

so today
oil is near record highs
the dow is near record highs
the SAP is near record highs
gold is near 25 year highs
the canadian dollar is worth almost 3% more then the US dollar
The US dollar is .5 away from it's all time low

All the talking heads want to talk about is Walmarts increased forecast and the next rate cut.

Haven't almost all of the past stock market crashes been preceded by periods of insane euphoric growth?
