Let me precede my comments by saying that I am not connected with the government in any way.

That being said, I have a number of friends in law enforcement, including some that work for the feds. I haven't mentioned this site specifically, but I have shared my copy of End Of Suburbia with them, and I email them the occassional bit of news.

I don't think you need to concern yourself about the FBI or others monitoring the site or doing anything disruptive. They're people just like you and I who do their job. They follow the rules; in fact, they are, by and large, more fastidious about obeying the rules than non-law enforcement types.

So as long as one isn't doing anything foolish - which would be in violation of the site's code of conduct anyway - one has, in my opinion, nothing to fear.

Not scared, just intrigued at how much truth there is to the whole cointelpro stuff. You hear of the odd site getting messed around like www.indymedia.org. I'd love it if my job was to read these forums, instead of them being a distraction from it :lol:

I think Aaron has said in the past that from looking at the logs, a lot of folks from IPs originating from government organizations have visited. So I think odds are that they are keeping an eye on this site & others like it, for whatever reason.

If they do believe that peak oil is on the horizon (and they probably do), they're probably trying to keep an eye on any political movements that have the potential of civil unrest in the future, as well as any developments the CIA might have missed (hey, they still watch CNN, don't they?)

It's good policy to assume that anything you write online (and probably anything you email) is being monitored.

Jack is probably right that FBI types are fastidious about following the rules. The only problem is, the rules may not be what you would like them to be. And the rules may change, especially if times get rough.

If governments had their fingers on the pulse of public opinion enough to worry about, they'd not keep doing the asinine things they keep doing.

I'd not worry a bit, just don't go breaking the forum rules, and keep the discussion on peak oil and associated worries, and that's it.

I actually know someone who's talked more than once about capping the Pres but I've not said anything because he's too lazy/chickenshit to be a harm to anyone. I figure he'll probably say something kinda dumb to a cop or something because he's not the sharpest tool in the shed, and let THEM report it!

I just don't want it to seem like something personal against him, just because we disagree on some political things. I read this article in this morning's San Jose Mercury News. I think it's a safe bet that we're being watched:

NSA supposedly sucks down all communication traffic so if they want to find something they have their ways thanks to the best programmers that the gov. can buy. :shock:

Regarding those supposed terrorists in Holland. They must be total idiots. They better start reading a bit in the spy section of the library. Maybe that is why the Feds like to keep track of library records.
