A lot of blogs, like this one, are reporting that Rove will escape indictment. They think he's managed to cop a last-minute deal of some sort.

According to the latest update from Richard Sale, indictments will be announced later this afternoon, and a press conference held tomorrow:
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')n hour ago I was contacted by a U.S. government official close to the Fitzgerald case. This person told me that there WILL be indictments announced later this afternoon, and the Special Prosecutor will hold a press conference tomorrow.

Daily Kos
What's more, this may only be the beginning. Fitzgerald apparently wants to empanel a new Grand Jury, according to Sale.
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')hey said that Fitzgerald is looking into such individuals as former CIA agent, Duane Claridge, military consultant to the Iraqi National Congress, Gen. Wayne Downing, another military consultant for INC, and Francis Brooke, head of INC's Washington office in an effort to determine if they played any role in the forgeriese or their dissiemination. Also included in this group is long-time neoconservative Michael Ledeen, these federal sources said.

Well I just threw that out there because now it is not a problem for Condi but running for president is another thing entirely. It would never fly with the people in the sticks a Black Female Lesbian President uh I don't think so.

If she is a lesbian I for one appreciate the fact that she does not mention it every two seconds.

The conservatives are altready frothing for a possible Condi 2008 campaign. She can do three things- bring in the vote from traditional conservatives who view her as hawkish, experienced and a traditional Bush-Reagan republican. She can bring in the vote from minority and especially black voters. Just a small percentage change in this category in her favor could win the election for her. And three- she's not so conservative (possibly pro-choice) that she will turn off the soccer moms and independents. The only down side is that she might turn off the conservative evangelicals because she's not pro-life enough.

She did herself no favors when she went shoe-shopping while Katrina blew through, though. I'm sure the black community will remember that (or, rather, will be reminded of it constantly).

Things not working for Condi:
1. Lacks genuine charisma
2. Lacks discernible independent thought (kool-aid sipper).
3. Projects an automaton image during press conferences
4. Reminds some of a certain 'uncle'...

Actually, I don't think either Condi nor McCain is conservative enough to carry the GOP base. There's a lot of talk and excitement about them, but I seriously doubt they can survive the primaries.

The GOP is the "daddy party." They need to be strong on defense, or at least appear to be. Maybe Margaret Thatcher could win those votes; I don't think Condi can.

And there is a wide swathe of racists in the GOP. They keep them hidden, but they're there. They may tell the pollsters they could vote for Colin Powell or Condi Rice, but in the privacy of the voting booth, they won't do it.

I think we'll have a white female president, and/or a black male, before we have a black woman like Condi.

ABC is reporting as of 36 minutes ago, that the grand jury has adjourned for the day. And, according to the Dept of Justice, there will be no annoucements today.

I know better than to write a thread headline like that! Aargh. There was no room for the word "MAY" or to use "Source:" preceding the caption.

Retitled the thread.

But it does look like Friday might be the day.

I think Fitzgerald issued sealed indictments today. The indicted were notified and will have to appear somewhere to plead. Then by Friday we'll have an announcement of specific charges. It's all done, just waiting for the announcements/details now.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')LLEN: “A Likely Scenario For What Happened Today Is Patrick Fitzgerald Got Some Indictments”

Hotline says Time Magazine’s Mike Allen “has some of the best sources in Washington.” Here’s what he had to say about the leak scandal tonight on Hardball:

MIKE ALLEN: A lot of activity happening that we’re not seeing. A likely scenario for what happened today, Patrick Fitzgerald got some indictments from this grand jury. He is now able to go to the…

CHRIS MATTHEWS: You think they’re sealed right now?

MIKE ALLEN: Very possible. What I’m told is typically, in a case like this, he could get the indictments and now he can go to the targets and say, you can plead to these or I’ll go back Friday and get more. You have 12 to 24 hours to think about it.

CHRIS MATTHEWS: And he can give them a little Whitman Sampler of suggestions pleading to the charge of obstruction or perjury or…

MIKE ALLEN: I can add a bunch of counts. You can take a couple of counts or we can do a bunch more.

Later on Olbermann, The Washington Post’s Jim VanDeHei (who also has “some of the best sources in Washington”) assures us the wait is almost over: “I do not think we’ll see any extension of this grand jury. We will know on Friday what’s going to happen here.”

WaPo has an interesting article.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'E')ven as Special Counsel Patrick J. Fitzgerald wrapped up his case, the legal team of White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove has been engaged in a furious effort to convince the prosecutor that Rove did not commit perjury during the course of the investigation, according to people close to the aide. The sources, who indicated that the effort intensified in recent weeks, said Rove still did not know last night whether he would be indicted.

It's still not known whether the Grand Jury voted on the indictments or not:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'B')ut after grand jurors left the federal courthouse before noon yesterday, it was unclear whether Fitzgerald had spelled out the criminal charges he might ask them to consider, or whether he had asked them to vote on any proposed indictments. Fitzgerald's legal team did not present the results of a grand jury vote to the court yesterday, which he is required to do within days of such a vote.

Man, this must really be putting a damper on the World Series for Dubya and Turd Blossom. Just as well, I guess, since it looks like the Astros are gonna be swept.

So hard to figure this one out. A Washington Post article seems to be suggesting that no indictments have been filed yet.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/26/AR2005102600532.html

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he prosecutor in the CIA leak investigation presented a summary of his case to a federal grand jury yesterday and is expected to announce a final decision on charges in the two-year-long probe tomorrow, according to people familiar with the case. ... The sources, who indicated that the effort intensified in recent weeks, said Rove still did not know last night whether he would be indicted.

...

Should he need more time to finish the investigation, Fitzgerald could seek to empanel a new group of grand jurors to consider the case. But sources familiar with the prosecutor's work said he has indicated he is eager to avoid that route. The term of the current grand jury has been extended once and cannot be lengthened again, according to federal rules.

Blacks won't vote for a person just because they are black.
Blacks din't support Clarence Thomas, Colin Powell, nor Condi Rice. They constantly make fun of her.

Blacks want to support a liberal politician. A liberal as white as snow will get the black vote over Condi.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')utchison Flip-Flops on Importance of Perjury
Yesterday, offering a hint of the attack White House allies will launch on special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald if and when he announces any indictments, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison dismissed the possible felony indictment of perjury as a mere “technicality”:

Ms. Hutchison said she hoped “that if there is going to be an indictment that says something happened, that it is an indictment on a crime and not some perjury technicality where they couldn’t indict on the crime and so they go to something just to show that their two years of investigation was not a waste of time and taxpayer dollars.”

On February 2, 1999, Hutchison stood with a bipartisan group of senators at a press conference announcing a resolution to open the Senate trial on the impeachment of President Clinton. At the time, Hutchison said it was vitally important to prosecute on perjury charges because telling the truth is the lynch pin of our criminal justice system:

[S]omething needs to be said that is a clear message that our rule of law is intact and the standards for perjury and obstruction of justice are not gray. And I think it is most important that we make that statement and that it be on the record for history.

I very much worry that with the evidence that we have seen that grand juries across America are going to start asking questions about what is obstruction of justice, what is perjury. And I don’t want there to be any lessening of the standard. Because our system of criminal justice depends on people telling the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. That is the lynch pin of our criminal justice system and I don’t want it to be faded in any way

You are correct, EC, I believe...

What's sad is that for the sake of argument and risking unfair over-generalization, is that the bigwigs of RNC and white Republicans believe that blacks will vote as some still do: seeing color first, and so mistakenly believe that blacks, women, hispanics,or whatever voting 'block' they'd like to get will step over their ideological mindset to vote race, sex, class, etc.. They are mistaken as unfortunately many don't seem to get the 'content of their character' thing still..

Most of the people of the world have more in common with each other than they know...Some still like to play the divide and conquer tactic...Cui Bono...the corporatists, elitists...$$$$..It's all about the pyramid...those at the top cannot be supported unless there are many underneath them...

Looks like some people are starting to talk -
$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'T')he Chicago-based prosecutor has obtained new information from officials targeted in the leak probe, who are now interested in entering into plea discussions, they added.

Fitzgerald intended to announce that he had secured indictments against I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff, and Karl Rove, President Bush's deputy chief of staff, Wednesday afternoon as well as two people who work outside of the administration, those close to the case said.

But his office was contacted late Tuesday by attorneys representing figures outside the White House, lawyers said, who expressed interest in entering into plea talks with the prosecutor. Several have agreed to enter into last-minute plea negotiations with Fitzgerald in exchange for providing testimony that could result in criminal charges being brought against additional officials inside the White House, they added.

Raw Story
I think Fitzgerald wants to pursue the Niger forgery connection.
