Ya know that made me think...all joking aside, we should start buying alot more "organic" food...we'll need organic farms to be up & running when the SHTF! Buying organic now would make those farms grow.

Ironically, the organic food will eventually be cheaper then the other foods after PO.

I didn’t wait for the site to load (Amish bandwidth and all) but though organic is great, organic grown in CA or FL and shipped to NY is really no solution at all.

The solution is not to shop at the grocery store at all! By LOCAL – farmers market, CSAs, pick-your-own and all that. The little guy down the road is the solution. When it's time to use less inputs for transport or starve he is the one that will save your bacon.

Says the little guy down the road…
The legitimate object of government, is to do for a community of people, whatever they need to have done, but can not do, at all, or can not, so well do, for themselves -- in their separate, and individual capacities.
-- Abraham Lincoln, Fragment on Government (July 1, 1854)

I love it since we moved to a small farm town last year. I am just waiting for the local farmer's to get there produce grown so they set up their little stands. There were several last summer and I had the best vegetable to eat. Better then any store.

The local farmer is the best to buy from. Now, if I could just learn how to can and freeze so I get their veggies all winter long!

That there's the gospel.

There's something suspect about this "organic" business. For some, the word seems synonymous with "virtuous."

By all rights, I'm an "organic" farmer (compost, mulch, no pesticides), but I refuse to call myself such.

Aren't petroleum molecules, like, organic molecules? :-D

THE Grocery Store Thread (merged)

Hi I work in a grocery store called albertsons.I have worked there for four years and I'm union so I get payed alright and got good benifits, but thats not the point of this thread. The point of this thread is, that today I was in the office at work on the computer. One of the big shots from corporate office was in the office too he was on a conference call with the phone on speaker phone so I could hear everything being said. For a good ten minutes all the conference was talking about was terrorist attacks on grocery stores and how the department of homeland security was concerned with the grocery store companies and there prepardness for an attack. They continued talking about how all exits and entrances in the store must be locked when not in use and blah blah blah.,but I though it was very strange.I don't know whats going on ,but maybe some of you have a clue. Someone with some insight or a hypothesis please resond cause It's kinda bizzare

Could be that the corporate guy was being a deutschbag because Homeland Security called him. And he probably got all nervous and patriotic and made a list of stupid things to do and called stores in the region? [smilie=dontknow.gif]

Ah Homeland security! It has nothing to do but to warn grocery stores and other 'targets'.

(You know, I thought that the FBI had the same exact powers and responsibilities as Homeland Security... )

I believe a couple of Al Queda types were arrested in California - supposedly, part of their plan was to attack grocery stores.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')nd it's here that authorities say 22-year-old Hamid Hayat returned last year after training in an al-Qaida terrorist camp, with plans to attack hospitals and supermarkets in the United States.

I always thought, if terrorists wanted to scare people, they would blow up a Wal-Mart. If you can't even go to Wal-Mart in safety what has this world come to?

Grocery Terrorism

Dateline: Albertsons

"American shoppers were slightly inconvenienced Monday after domestic terrorists launched attacks against the produce section of a local Albertsons grocery store.

"It was horrible... the lettuce was everywhere... And what they did to those poor tomatos... it's inhuman."

In a related story, moms between 18 & 35 have been scared shirtless by meaningless threats across the nation today.

An ad executive commented that, "After our success in promoting fear of germs and vaginal odors in the target demographic, we were thrilled to be offered an opportunity to spread the message of GroceoTerror."

"It's a perfect match."

Asked for comments after a through bitching session by their wives, American men responded Friday saying, "Yes Dear."
The problem is, of course, that not only is economics bankrupt, but it has always been nothing more than politics in disguise... economics is a form of brain damage.

 LOL Aaron!

Actually, the first thing that crossed my mind was, in having s "homeland security plan" for the grocery stores - i.e., a way to control who goes in and who doesn't - perhaps they are considering ways to stop a run on stores (in the future) in an emergency situation? Rationing, anyone?

I'm going to let out a secret.

Any place were large numbers of people gather, or need to go to obtain food, or medical care is a
potential terrorist target. Anybody remember the tylenol incident? What is your water source?
Is there any place you go where there are large crowds, especially who are in the dark and seated?
Anybody work in a large manufacturing facility -- especially one which uses dangerous chemicals?

The only place which is not a terroist target would be where no one is, goes to, or is used to produce
any human consumable product. Somewhere like the middle of the desert.

I know exactly where we are;
. . . .
don't know where we're going, but no use in being late.

Arron if your scenario was to play out I would have one big mess to clean up. 8) lol
I'm the produce manger. Working in a grocery store is abslolutely one of the most non gratifying jobs, but Like I said It pays pretty good has good benefits considering I have a 9 montlh old and a wife.I make $18.90 an hour roughly 40-48 grand a year depending.I'm only 21 years old. I have no college degree. So for now I work as a damn grocer. Never the less .. I thought you guys would get a kick out of the fact that the homeland security is farting around with a little old grocery stores. My profession my be simple, but my thoughts and comprehension are of an intelect. so if anything don't dismiss me for the typical moronic grocery store employees.
I'm about survival and unfortunately the system I'm engulfed in requires me to work for a company, instead of working for the basic essential for survival, food, water shelter ,
I'm working for a bunch of miscelaneous materials that for the most part will be the junk of tomorrow.

In the UK we have had a number of scares, even panics, about food hygiene. A recent one was Sudan-1, a food die. It is theoretically slightly harmful, yet it was in the news for days. Health inspectors were going around making sure every product containing any trace was scrapped. Supermarkets are generally very quick to pull any product that possibly has contamination, for example, some glass is found in one jar so every jar is recalled.

Possibly the BSE debacle has sensitised us to potential problems, but risks of food contamination cause disproportionate levels of response. Ideal for terrorists.

The food scares follow the same pattern for other scares. The deadly levels of salt, sugar and fat in foods is largely overlooked. One guy gets a nip from a spider in a bunch of bananas, and it is headline news. Why??
It's all downhill from here
