$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'H')ow about "I don't like religious, economic or political fundamentalists".

Then at least we can avoid hypocrisy.

I don’t like Christian, Islamic, [fill in your pet-hate] fundamentalists. How’s that Rog?
I’m a hypocrite. I don't think Religion, economics or politics are the same bag.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Gridlock', 'I') don't think Religion, economics or politics are part of the same bag.

They most certainly are when:

1. You know that you follow the one true economic system/political system/religion [delete as appropriate]

2. Everyone else should adopt our economic system/political system/religion [delete as appropriate] for their own good.

3. People who adhere to a different political/economic/religious [delete as appropriate] system are a direct threat to our way of life.

4. Hence we must forcibly change their political/economic/religious system [delete as appropriate].

Are they running the 3-D bald eagle animation (seems to fly right out of the screen at you) yet?

They used it for years after 9-11 as part of the War On Terror graphic.

Pat Robertson has similar thoughts.

We in the West are wallowing in fundamentalism, both religious and secular. We just think our fundamentalisms are better than theirs.

Also don't forget

(a) you don't break people's will to resist with saturation/shock and awe bombing

(b) you can't defeat terrorism militarily.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Gridlock', 'J')ust in on fox news, regarding latest terrorist plot: ‘The British working class neighbourhoods represent a threat to American national security’. I love this channel, the terrorism threat on the ticker tape just seems to get higher everyday. The rhetoric becomes ever more absurd, yet I have to keep tuning in. Anyone else experience these symptoms?

Yup - and know what's worse - fox news is being played 24/7 at every US military base that I've been to in the last six years. Complete saturation. There are a few of us who can filter out the BS - but it's only a few.

A sad state of affairs.

Well, if CNN would be more positive about American troop activities, they'd have a better chance at that audience. Part of free speech is the freedom to choose who you want to listen to on TV.

What do you suggest they play? Al Jazeera? Or maybe put on 24/7 tapes of Hassan Nasrallah shouting "Death to Israel! Death to America!"

Get real dude. All media is propaganda. There is no such thing as objective reporting, it doesn't exist.

Of course you can, it's just not politically correct.

Wait 'til peak oil sets in and terrorism gets worse.

Everyone's fat and happy right now, and very few in the west have been personally effected by terrorists. For most people "terrorism" is just a theoretical idea debated on chatboards.

If you're struggling to find a job or feed your family and at the same time terrorists are trying to kill you, you will see a significant change to the wests current "sensitive" kid gloves approach to dealing with the rise of islamic radicalism. It's just a matter of time and number of people killed. Sad thing is many more will have to die.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('blackfrank', 'l')ove or hate fox it does not matter the target of the planed attacks was american airliners flying from london to america, and i think a fair few of the passengers would have been yanks
they planed to hit 9 or 1 planes with around 250 passengers on each plan if half were americans that would be over 1000 dead americans

Just as many as US dollars and foreign policies just killed in Lebanon, 40% of them children. You're getting what you asked for.

The approach of finishing with Islamic terrorism through Western state-sponsored terrorism is as idiotic as a dog chasing its tail. I wonder how many more 9/11s have to take place before the American public understands that they're bringing terrorism upon themselves by condoning their governments terrorist policies in the ME. Bin Ladem himself has said it. He has said very clearly that 9/11 was a result of and a revenge against American slaughter of Arab civilians in Palestine, Irak, Lebanon.....

Wow, it's more endemic than I thought. These people are inflitrating education systems and teaching college students what they want. College education used to be the only way out of ignorance and brainwashing---now it is *the way* to ignorance and brainwashing. Fortunately, many of us still have a capacity for critical thinking.

It becomes more apparent every day that the Bush regime has a much wider war plan in mind. They are just looking for the right "terror" incident to happen so that the public will support such extreme measures.

It is also apparent that the US public is slowly but surely becoming comfortable with idea that the use of US military power is the solution to all ME problems. It is only going to take another 911 and they will sign on to whatever craziness Mister Bush recommends.

And it is not at all apparent that Bush is resistant to the psychotic "end times" and armageddonite thinking of the radical christian factions of the GOP. It appears from all indications that he believes in a literalist interpretation of the bible ie Genesis, Noahs arc, Jonah and the whale, etc.

It may be one of the great tragedies of history that WW3 will be started by a religious simpleton.

Precisely. Terrorism requires a large disaffected population from which to draw combatants and substantial funding from groups or states. The west is unwilling to move against either element, so terrorism thrives.

Acting against the large population has fewer risks but generates more images of dead children. Targeting the state or group that funds the terrorists carries other risks.
