Re: How much time do you spend commuting?

I'm 7 miles from a bus line, which I take to shorten my biking/driving distance. It's about 15 minutes in a car, which I take when I need to give my legs a rest (becoming less frequent as I gain muscle), rains heavily, sick, etc. About 30 minutes on bike. I'll eventually get that down to around 25 minutes though, I think.

Coming home, I tend to not take the bus, so it's about 9 miles from center of school or 10 miles if leaving from work. I don't take the bus for those 2 miles because my school's at the top of a hill. Why would I want to cut out the best part of my day while sitting on a bus? Those 9-10 miles take about 40 mins. Hoping to push it down to 35 eventually. Maybe less.

Traffic can suck sometimes. Two days ago, we had a line at a stop sign that went for a good half mile. But, being on a bike, I passed a few people (illegally, probably). But that's maybe an extra 5 minutes.

Overall, I spend about 70 minutes a day commuting. Plus a few more in between classes and work.

30-45 minutes. Its about 30 miles or so one way to work. I actually like it. I used to live "just down the road" with an under 15 minute drive. If I had a bad day at work I'd still be mad when I got home. No cool down time. The half hour drive now is nice as I have time to cool down and when I get home I'm my normal, happy, charming lovable self.

I have worked from home for the last 2 years. My only commute is from my bed to my computer with an occasional detour to the coffeepot. :)

30 minute bike ride from home to work. 6.7 miles.

If I am tired/sick/raining/pissy I take the subway which takes 50 minutes.

Very rarely I take our vehicle in but it is usually only on Fridays to beat the traffic out of town.

2,851 miles... one way.

Course, it only takes me 8-10 hours per month.

Just doin my part...

12 minutes by bike. Bike lanes and a path take me the whole route aside from a 1 block stretch.
I spend 5 hours there (M-F) and turn around and ride 12 minutes back home.

Where in the world would there be a line a half mile long at a stop sign?? Nothing enrages me more than being stuck in a line of cars with no way out...hence my phobia of drive-thru lanes at fast food places, etc. And since I work at home (if you can call it that...LOL), I take special care to avoid driving during peak hours, which is probably why I'm so spoiled traffic-wise...a small delay to some would just drive me totally up the wall, as if the end of the world was at hand. Too bad I had to be born in the automobile era, as few things get me worked up more than being trapped in a car in traffic jams, etc.

But as far as riding bikes is concerned, never, ever feel bad about passing people stuck in their cars, and give 'em a good smirk as you pass them by...hehe.

Still thinking of getting an electric bike, just so I can go out at 5 pm and totally blow past those long lines of cars waiting for those infernally long stop lights to change to green....LOL. Nothing in life feels better than being able to "cheat" like that. :P

Roughly 10 minutes on bike, 20 minutes on foot.

I make it a point to work where I live, or live where I work.

A nice walk before, and after work is helpful for clearing the mind.

And getting the circulation going.

I used to feel so stressed when I commuted to work by transit, or car. Felt trapped, and not in control. Too many people.

Plus I found it such a waste of time to spend 2+ hours of my day running with all the other lemmings.

About 12 minutes when it's nice and cool and closer to 20 minutes when it's hot and humid. I walk much slower in the humidity to avoid being soaking wet. It's about a mile, maybe a little more depending on which route i take.

The last ten years of my career where spent working out of my home office. Now that I'm retired I walk out the door to more work than I can handle. I do drive into town about once or twice per month.

My wife has 4 different offices where she sees patients. The distances vary from 18 to 30 miles from the farm. Fortunately the state pays the gas bill.

15 minutes by car, 50 minutes by bike. If I start or finish anywhere near the evening rush hour it can be a 30 to 40 minute commute instead.

I commute 8 miles to and 8 miles back for a grand total of 30 min a day with traffic. We just switched to 4 day work weeks. Now I go through a tank of gas every two weeks. :)

10-15 minutes, all surface streets, about 4-5 miles. I could probably bike it, but not in the summer (office/professional attire).

Will start using light rail daily after an office move in 1Q09.

I get up around 5:28 am.
Make some coffee.
Smoke some reefer.
Walk to the basement where the beast (the computer) is kept.
And go to work on the beast.

I don't use a bicycle to get where I am going, I ride a svastika to verk.
The svastika has two wheels too.
One wheel turns clockwise and the other wheel turns counter-clockwise.
Those two simple movements are the Keys to Universal Movement.

Now once at work, my job is to travel abroad, surfing the WWW, hanging 10 fingers on mi surf board, using a qwerty keyboard, to help try unlock the the secret keys of life, using that KEY 528 bequeathed to me, left / right / left / right, using strokes of genius...and madness to march forward...and reverse.

Some people on this forum claim I am retired.
Not true, I just got tired.
I switched occupations.
I am now a fearless vampire killer.
So to get to work does not take long, I simply descend my stairs and go down down down, and once at work my job is to drive stakes through the hearts of the human vampires using words, numbers and images.

And if you want to become a fearless vampire killer and make the ride to work real short, you can practice being a fearless vampire killer simply by looking in the mirror.
Yes I know they say a vampire's reflection cannot be seen....
Take a real good look...
Stare long enough at the reflection you see in the mirror.
Do you see it?
The vampire?
It's in there, but you must spend a long long time gazing at that image before the 'evil' that has been 'veiled', becomes apparent...

I commute between various stores that I manage, in far-flung towns. Changes with the seasons.
It could be 1/2 hour away or it could be an hour and a half away, depends on the stores I have to manage, bring/transfer products to, etc. Also, sometimes there are meetings at our Head location or at other stores that take 1-1/2 hours to get to.

That's just the way it is when you have 19 stores (garden centers) to manage. Our owner reimburses me a gas allowance.
