$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Heineken', 'T')he other day I drove through a bad area of Richmond. It was instructive. Some of those people would kill you without a second thought, if they could get away with it and it conferred on them some sort of advantage. There are MILLIONS of people like that, and there would quickly be millions more in an epic economic downturn.
This is a "behold, wisdom" moment.
Heineken is exactly correct. It has been said that no one is more conservative than the fellow who just got married, purchased a house, and got promoted to foreman. The converse suggests that there is no one more radical than someone who just lost his job, became homeless, and has hungry children.
Sure, there will be riots. Those riots will be suppressed. With tear gas at first. With rubber bullets later. With hickory nightsticks next. And finally...with the use of deadly force. Order will be maintained, because the alternative is actual collapse.
Then there will be a certain tense calm. Hot rage will transform into cold hatred. And someone will come forth to give voice to that hatred.
Perhaps it will speak against external enemies. Or, maybe it will point to internal traitors. It may be communist, or fascist - or some as yet unnamed ism.
And that is the point to fear more than any other. At that point, the society becomes a meat grinder; those dropped into the maw will be destroyed.
Those who think this is not the case should read history. It is a pattern so strong as to constitute a human tradition.
Read Heineken's post carefully. He's right.
