I know PT costs vary a lot around the world, but just to compare:
Commuting mostly by train, 100km a day, 4 days a week plus incidental trips with my family (also PT): Under $2500 a year.

Commuting 10km a day using a fossil fuel powered device, $0.18 US, round it to $1/week. Commuting that same 10km day on bicycle, priceless!
