Guys cut him some slack, he is no saint, perhaps identifiable as only a bit above average bipartisan american establishment figure level. Just the idea he allowed himself to run in 2000 with the neonazi Lieberman guy, and his own cowardish stance on how not to further "divide the nation", when the elections were clearly stolen, speak for itself. Let him enjoy the last 2-3-4 decades of his life in relative luxury.

You can always take your family/kids on celebrity sightseeing tour coach
and at least look in awe over the gates of his estates.

PS in our neck of the woods his more famous cousin, the author Gore Vidal, talks about him as weak or something in the grand scheme of U.S. politics, disclaimer:
Vidal recommends content of David Ray Griffin's books, hah

You guys are just jealous.

If someone like Ludi or Mos had that kind of money they would buy a 120 foot motoryacht, vacation homes in every major port, and buy a small organic farm in southern France just to make themselves sleep at night.
How can Ludi spend 8-10 hrs/day on the internet and claim to be homesteading???

If I had that kind of money I'd buy an aircraft carrier & start an ecovillage on it. :-D

This makes me think of the Faesta report covered on The Oil Drum lately had this little nugget:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', '
')What does seem clear is that those who, through fear or averice, try and insulate themselves from the impacts by disproportionate hoarding or land grabs for example, will imperil not only their communitys security and wellbeing, but their own. This will be a time when we really will need the cooperation and support of others, and where the idea of autonomous security through wealth and the market system will be revealed as a transient illusion.

Translation:

Abandon all hope, doomsteaders. In a world of overshoot, after the phantom carrying capacity evaporates, anything over a shoebox apartment and a grinding starvation diet of gruel, cockroaches, and an occasional tomato grown on your windowsill will be seen as disproportionate hoarding and a land grab, subject to the raiding of the riteous horde.

I suggest everyone come to grips with the moral ambiguity of lifeboat ethics in the age of overshoot. If you're going to live, then it means it's at someone else's expense somewhere down the line. Whether you've got a lifeboat or an aircraft carrier, somebody's gonna be left to drown. It's only a matter of scale. Try to pick everyone up and everyone drowns. So in the end, you have to be pragmatic first, moral second.

What? Does he listen to a word he says? 6 fireplaces? I'm sorry but this is really unbelievable.

Couldn't he have found some kind of an eco-beach house in Costa Rica or something?

His carbon footprint must be off the charts.

I'm not letting him on my lifeboat.

He'll have to get his own.

What was it Orwell said in Animal Farm. As the rest of the farm animals peered in the window at the pigs cavorting and eating forbidden foods etc. "All animals are created equal, just some are more equal than others" or something like that.
"We Are All Travellers, From The Sweet Grass To The Packing House, From Birth To Death, We Wander Between The Two Eternities". An Old Cowboy.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('pstarr', 'I')n a chaotic situation personal pragmatism requires an undying, sincere, and very public display of loyalty to ones community/tribe. Of course that should be balanced by discrete personal distrust and surveillance of every other member. With the requisite faith in one's immediate loved ones---for sanity's sake.

Well said, but that has always been true, some ppl just never noticed it before.

Well it looks as if the almighty leader of the Global Warming propaganda does not even believe in it, if we are all doomed as Cid_Yama keeps posting than why waste money on a Hugh carbon eating house, unless he is just preaching false $hit just to rake in millions, sure has to make the GW believers think if this is really true or not, to me its just to put $$ in certain fat cat pockets and scare and control the masses, wake up people, wake up, your GW leader is mocking you..

His jet alone has wasted thousands of gals of fuel and now another huge carbon wasting house.

I wonder if Cid will post here about his God and what he is doing..

LOL..

Hm.. doesn't ad up. He's telling us to "consume less" while he consumes more -- read the article, they're "adding" this 8.5 mil property to their "holdings," so that means they have many homes.

Where the heck is he getting all this money? 8.5 mil for a house is nothing to sneeze at, that's getting to the upper reaches of the super rich. And it's just one home of many.. how did Al Gore get so rich I wonder? And how can he keep telling us to "consume less" with a straight face?

The guy is a joke.
