Thanks, gang! I appreciate the honesty! You don't necessarily have to like it...but some tracks send at least an inkling of a message. True, there is a lot of garbage out there, but that is the case w/ all genres of music unfortunately. As an Alto Sax player and a white dude going to a majority black school growing up really shaped who I am musically.

Speaking of:
Demographics
* 61.4% - African American/Non Hispanic
* 37.5% - White/Non-Hispanic
* 0.6% - Asian/Pacific Islander
* 0.5% - Hispanic
* 0.0% - American Indian/Alaska Native

It's a lot of gun talk (YAY 2nd Amendment!) and a rap song embodied it...it's both incredible and sad.

"they say prescott bush funded hitler" - Nas

Music: MP3 podcasts

Unread postby TheDude » Thu 11 Feb 2010, 20:42:34

grinningplanet.com - mp3 news podcasts
Was looking for some audio for a road trip with a doomer pal and found this site: MP3 News Download. Democracy Now, Financial Sense, Shortwave stuff, C2C, GoldRadio.fm, Food Chain Radio, Max Keiser. Etc! Pretty solid aggregating.

Radiolab looks interesting as well, thanks.

On our road trip it was mostly music I played in spite of loading up a whole gig of grinningplanet audio on the iPod. Mostly for myself I listen to Text-To-Speech files reciting texts, which I'm unique in being able to put up with, since I crank the rate at which the program speaks. Incredibly annoying to hear but you learn a lot! The newer voices are less machine like, too.

Life is music and we are the same

Unread postby paimei01 » Wed 30 Jun 2010, 16:59:34

We are music. When you hear a song - you know without using any "logic" - when a false note appears. "Bad music". You feel it.

Look around. Gulf of Mexico. You "feel" bad thinking about what's going on there. There's no logic involved. It's not logic that makes us "alive". It's something useful, but it's not "us".

There is no good and evil. There is music, and no music. We feel "bad" things the same way we feel a wrong note in a melody. We too - are music.
When we listen to ourselves - not our "logic" - we "sing". We - humans, the only beings that are in danger of getting lost - from ourselves. The other beings, life around us - is true in all it's actions. It does not lie to itself. It sings. All life does - when free.

I'm not sure that there is any ideal state. Granted, we endeavour to improve our personal conditions as we will, but a universe as perfectly imperfect as ours, will, in my opinion, embrace everything within it's limits. Which makes the case, for me anyway, for atheistic materialism.
