Hopefully, in a post-peak world, we'll at least have enough energy to keep our CD players running :P . But for now, I must know, what's your musical passion?

Mine? Well, I am a big fan of garage punk. Most of the music I listen to is in some way related to this bluesy, ballsy form of rock n' roll. Some of my favorites, in no particular order, are:

The White Stripes
The Kills
The Revelators
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs
The MC5 (see avatar)
The Stone Temple Pilots
The Von Bondies
The Animals
The Hard Feelings

I am still a relatively new music fan, so I still have some stuff left to discover.

I just started listening to music about 1.5 years ago, so I'm still kinda new to it as well.
My favorite genres as punk, nu-rock, modern rock, hip-hop, and alternative rock.
Bands:
Linkin Park, Yellowcard, New Found Glory, Incubus, Story of the Year
In the long run, men hit only what they aim at. Therefore, though they should fail immediately, they had better aim at something high.-Thoreau

Well, I like a little of everything (minus pop and dance), but Punk is where the passion lies.

Currents Faves:

Rise Against (As I think I mentioned once before I HIGHLY recommend their new disc......its kickass)
Bad Religion
Minor Threat
Avenged sevenfold
Strung out
Anti-flag

All time Punk rock Faves:

Pennywise
Nofx
Gob (Not their new crap)

Favorite non-punk:

Jimi Hendrix
Black Sabbath
CCR
Johnny Cash (Yeah I know it doesn't really fit......but Cash rules!)

P.S.
Jrob & supplyguy, I have every so often in my life met people who don't listen to music, and I've always wondered......how is that possible?

I'm not saying it isn't possible I just mean that to me such a thing is unfathomable. I have ALWAYS listened to music (almost religiously, Hendrix is my god ) hell I've been into punk rock since I was 11 or 12
.

Anyway the point is, to me, life would seem boring as hell without music. So, do you guys think that life is a little sweeter (even just a little) now that you DO listen to music?

Just wondering

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'J')rob & supplyguy, I have every so often in my life met people who don't listen to music, and I've always wondered......how is that possible?

It's kind of complicated. See, I have been listening to music since I was about 12 or 13. It was only a few years ago when I began "listening" to music.

In my early years, I listened to whatever was popular on the radio. Whether it was pop, crap rock or my short and shameful love of rap. As I matured into a high school underclassman, I would only listen to hard rock (STP, who I still love), metal or rap-metal like Kid Rock and Korn [smilie=XXpuke.gif]. Later on, I went through this rather odd religious phase. I started listening to some shitty bands like Creed and POD. Finally, my around the beginning senior year, I began seriously listening to music. It started with the White Stripes. The reason being is that their music contains such a variety of influences spanning generations of rock n' roll and blues. I installed a cable internet connection in my room, so I was able to sample and discover all kinds of music -stuff that I couldn't hear on mainstream radio. I developed an affinity for garage punk through music sites and Little Steven's Underground Garage Rock radio program. Currently, I am going backwards, trying to find some older, more seasoned bands like the MC5.

A lot of different 'kinds'.......

re. Wagner there - why doesn't anyone mention that his Ring Cycle sounds not unlike the LOTR by Tolkien??? In terms of storyline of course.

well I was just listening to Led Zeppelin there while making my dinner,

last night it was drum and bass, mostly, some radio tunes......

recently - Fat Boy Slim, Kid 606, The Prodigy, Orbital, the music on the shooter games I have, Rolling Stones, Cypress Hill, the soundz of Tha Row, Happy Mondays, a lot more, too many to list.......

one I want to mention - D.E.V.I.L. by 666 ( various mixes )

When I do listen to music, (maybe an hour a week), I prefer Country Western. Most of the time I am listening to talk radio, or news from RAI or CRI, or the BBC. My favorite artists are Garth Brooks, Joe Nichols, Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, C.W. McCall, John Micheal Montgomery, Daryl Whorley, Hank Williams Jr.

TOOL (these guys are the best musicians that I've ever heard - they sound better live than they do on their CD's. You could Maynard James Keenan in an opera and he would still sound great. Not only that, what they're saying is very deep stuff as well), Rage Against the Machine, A Perfect Circle, just about everything else from classical to Sarah McLaughlin as well.

I hate that bubblegum shit.....i.e.......Spear Britney and that crowd. I had a knee-jerk reflex when she made that cameo in Fahrenheit 911; sadly I threw a box of Milk Duds at the screen. Man, I still regret that, what a waste of the Milk Duds.

In the classics, I like some Wagner, some Vivaldi, some Shastokovich, and some Vangelis. Beethoven I mostly don't like, except for an occasional passage. In fact, for much of the classics, I recognize technical brilliance in composition, but I don't find it enjoyable listening.

I like David Henry's "Betrayal in Antara Overture" and his short musical theme heard in the bar in southern Januli, in the game BETRAYAL IN ANTARA.

I like the short title song of the game MORROWIND.

I like a vocal, violin and brass trumpet medley that forms part of a song by Dresden - forgot the title. To a sweeping violin accompaniment, the words go: "For blood and for soil we will work, we will toil; Heaven is born on the Earth. The heroes will rise as we shout to the skies; we will now have our rebirth..." (vocal fades into a soaring trumpet duet).

I like most of Enya's stuff.

I like some of the happier Beatles' tunes.

There's a rendition of "Amazing Grace" on the A QUIET KNOWING cd that I think highly of.

Loreena McKinnet sang a Celtic musical rendition of Alfred Lord Tennyson's "The Lady of Shalott" that is quite beautiful. Loreena, you did make one mistake: it's supposed to be "dead pale between the houses high," not "nigh." Oh well. It's still the best musical Lady of Shalott around.

I like "Danny Boy" and "The Homes of Donegal," if they're well done. I must credit a political enemy of mine with an excellent rendition of the latter song on the WOMEN OF SONG cd. Nice job, Sharon.

Celtic harp music is usually pretty good.

On the MicroProse game Colonization, there's a mod music file with the name "Bonny Morn" that's easy listening; also good are "Smoky Tune" and "Shady Grove."

Oh and Matrim.. yeah I agree man, music is part of my life, its gotten me threw a lot of hard times and I could always turn to my tunes. A large record collection and a ton of cd's are on deffinalty going into my survival property.. my music is about as needed to me as toilet paper, my MP3 player is my best friend.. to be honost I never really met many people who dont at least like SOME type of music (country, regge, punk, etc.) its seems like so many peoples identities are based around the music they like. Not for me, Im just deeply in love with good music and dont think I could live without it, doesnt affect who I am to much though

I was never really into punk rock, but for some reason Green Day was my favorite band for a number of years. I love their new CD.

Yeah, Green Day was my favorite... and then I discovered a little band named Tool, and I was blown away. I think Tool is the best small musical group of all time. I know it's a big claim, but I just can't put into words how well composed their music is. It will sound weird at first, especially if you normally listen to rap, but the music grows on you like vines. I exposed the music to a friend, and he is now to a point where he enjoys their music even better than most rap.

Lately I've started exploring some northern European bands that blend metal with symphony.

That's like an oxy-moron if you ask me.

Yeah there are a lot of folks who would agree with you, the guy is a genius. I'm not sure I would agree that they're THE BEST but they're damn good.

Haven't gotten the chance to see them live but I'd like to. I saw a perfect circle a couple years ago and they were pretty kick ass, but tool would be better.
