Re: FDIC Broke?

from this, FDIC meets again to tackle funding needs, article:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'A')nd, 50 institutions were closed in the third quarter for a total estimated cost to the FDIC of $14.9 billion, according to researchers at Keefe Bruyette and Woods.
"This compares to the declining Deposit Insurance Fund balance of $10.4 billion as of the second quarter of 2009," Keefe's Washington analyst Brian Gardner said in a report published Monday.

Okay. As most of you know, math is not one of my strong suites. However, according to these two paragraphs, the FDIC is in the hole to some banks to the tune of $4.5B? Am I reading that correctly?

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Cloud9', 'T')he FDIC will be backed. Otherwise, the system implodes in a bank run.

But that doesnt mean its a "non issue". What does it get "backed" by? Thats the entire problem.

At some point there wont be anything left to "back" anything with. Bonds dont get sold, Government goes bankrupt, etc etc.

Not to worry though, it's a Non Issue.

Problem solved banks are now going to have to prepay their FDIC insurance up to 2012.

AP I understand that the whole system is insolvent. It has been insolvent for decades. Otherwise we would not be experiencing deficit spending for my entire adult life. The charade continues because the government has the unique capacity to pull unlimited amounts of money out of thin air. Very few people understand what that means. I am not even sure I understand it.

Right now we have a heated debate running between the inflationists and deflationists. I honestly don’t know which one of these arguments will prevail. My gut tells me the inflationists will win out but there are serious arguments on the other side.

My gut also tells me that the government will do anything to prevent a bank run similar to those that collapsed banks in the 1930’s. Letting the FDIC fail is not in the program.

Cloud,

I agree that they wont let it fail, just disagree about the money/insolvency charade. The math has become an issue and If you read Denninger at all or Shedlock you understand how this time around things are different than the charade which was going on before.

Yes I am ready for just getting over this slow decline and massive debt that is enslaving us all to foreign governments,, BK is a right that we need to exercise and fix this country now,, however we need a stronger leader to help the system through the BK and be ready for war when we tell other nations to bad so sad,, as if America has not been screwed by others when we loaned them money,, also its time to get out from under the UN and stop making payments and stop sending our military to places like Japan, S Korea, Europe, etc, they need to pay for there own security..

Yes I am ready, I have pleanty of supplies, pleanty of $$, extra gas, many autos paid for and RV paid for, tools, bullets, etc, etc, lets get this BK rolling and start over Fresh and Debt Free...........................

That is an excellent question, one that will be asked with increasing frequency. One where no answer has consequences.
For every question , there is a lie. For every lie, there is a truth. For every truth, there is a way. And for every way, there is a time. This is the time.

Yes I do beleave this is RIGHT,, What would you rather us do continue on down the road and pile on more and more and more DEBT,, Its getting crazy out there,, You need to look at America as if it was a business and would a Banker continue to loan money,, No they would not and a business lawyer would suggest to file for BK and stop this madness,, However we seem to get more and more loans and print more and more worthless money and slowly watch our system go broke little by little,, its time to stop NOW and fix it before it gets a lot worse or we may never recover for years and years.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Quinny', 'A')nd you wonder why America is so despised by many.

OK than what would you expect America to do for where we are now, you do know the interest alone on our debt is very huge and it will take years and years to pay off the foreign debt even if we stopped all loans and printing money today, it would also leave no money for social security, military, roads, bridges, other government programs, welfare, Obama health care, etc, etc, so you would rather us just go broke and hunger, no money for seniors and stay that way for years and years till maybe some time around 2099 we will be debt free..

Or just get over with it now while the system is still working and fix America right before we end up in a Civil War and dead ass broke...

Lets hear you out, what should we do...
