It once was. But now the low hanging (resource) fruit is largely eaten. So it's a real 24 karat rathole.

G20 Countries Taxpayers To Absorb Banks Toxic Debt
Here is the kicker no one knows how to place a value on the Banks Toxic Debt. The Banks give it a certain value to make their holdings and assets look good. On the open market it would be worthless. This will cost taxpayers literally Trillions in Tax Dollars and as the Debt to GDP ratio goes past 100% it will mean massive Tax Increases for taxpayers. Either directly or by stealth such as having to fees etc. http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/st ... 97,00.html

I have had several roommates from Africa and each one tells me that Africa doesn't need the United States's money. They have each informed me that the poor on the continent deserve to die for being lazy. They get aids because they deserve to get aids.

Russia proposes super-reserve currency talks at G20

Unread postby Cid_Yama » Fri 20 Mar 2009, 00:16:12

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'R')ussia is proposing that discussions into the possibility of creating a new world reserve currency are initiated at the upcoming G20 summit in London, a government source said on Wednesday.

"We believe it is necessary to consider the IMF's role in this process and also define the possibility and the need to adopt measures allowing for Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) to become an internationally recognized super-reserve currency," Russia's proposals read.

The idea is building steam:

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('', 'L')UXEMBOURG (Reuters) - A U.N. panel will next week recommend that the world ditch the dollar as its reserve currency in favor of a shared basket of currencies, a member of the panel said on Wednesday, adding to pressure on the dollar.

Currency specialist Avinash Persaud, a member of the panel of experts, told a Reuters Funds Summit in Luxembourg that the proposal was to create something like the old Ecu, or European currency unit, that was a hard-traded, weighted basket.

No doubt this will place more strain on the US relationship with the UN. I don't quite understand what the UN seeks to gain by angering the US, all it seems to achieve is to make the US government more likely to ignore it, and hence reduce its relevance.

If you look at senior appointments by the UN over the years since S11 they have pretty consistently been antagonistic to US interests.
I would guess they are hedging their bets that the USA will go down 1st leaving Islamised Europe in it's position as natural successor.
That's how it looks from here anyhow.

By Islamized I am not implying conversion but acceptance.
If a European Alliance with Russia, former States and Lets say China and Japan are capable of cosying up to Arab, African and Latin American countries in a move to shake the b/s out of the USD plenty of Americans will be saying the UN and Europe have become Islamised.
Daring to question the dollar as reserve currency seems to be such a sacrilege as to warrant the title.
Could well also be a tenuous b/s link or a bait.
Who will the USA blame if this comes to pass?

Support for this is shaky at best within Moscow.
Looks like a bit of financial saber waving by Putin here.

I'm glad the current US president is a pacifist democrat. Who knows how a more military-oriented, nationalistic administration might respond to mounting international pressure.

Has nothing to do with the UN. The G20 is where they will be discussing it and it has been on the agenda since they met in Washington D.C. last November and discussed it. You remember, the one that was supposed to be the "New Bretton Woods."

Now that the Fed has announced it will be buying hundred of billions worth of Treasuries, the Dollar is tanking, and this will be taken very seriously.

They hype these protests are getting in some sections of the press is unreal. Youd think Alaric was at the gates of London.

After Seattle most police forces are not going to get caught out again.

But if the police are whining that these demonstrations only attract "hard core elements" then they have only themselves to blame with the policing tactics they take during things like May Day 2007, Gleneagles G8 and last years Camp Climate change, where they are often highly provocative towards the crowds and "bend" the law to make the demonstrators as uncomfortable as possible, making far less an option for people with young famalies.

I was thinking of going, but I don't think it would be safe to take the kids.

I'm surprised at the lack of debate about it - previous years have been much more widely publicised!
