$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('EndOfGrowth', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('davep', '')$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('EndOfGrowth', 'T')hose people who thought they could get rich simply by owning a house?

Estate agents?

Buy to let landlords?

I'm not sure that becoming responsible for your own retirement fund (which is essentially what the buy to let crowd were doing) instead of hoping the Government will provide for you is a parasitic trait. They were more a symptom of the real-estate boom than a cause.

They also fall into the same category as 'Those people who thought they could get rich simply by owning a house'

I still don't see the problem. These people were fooled by the hype as much as anyone else. They are not the root cause of the problem.

They were part of the root cause of the problem, if they had not bought into the boom/scam with their greed then house prices would have never have gotten out of control.

I'm not so sure. Easy credit was available for a lot of people, not just Buy-to-Let landlords. You would need to provide some evidence that "house prices would have never have gotten out of control" without them.

Buy-to-let sales signal end of housing boom link

Buy-to-let boom increased house prices only by extra 7 per cent: link

Only 7%, thats £10,000 added to the average house price

This article was published in 2004, a good three years before the collapse.

House prices went up by 250-300% in just over a decade. So BTL was not the driver, nor a major factor.

No it's not a major factor, however it's still significant and it still contributed to HPI and their speculation added £10k to the average house price.

BTW, I'm not a BTLer nor am I overly enamoured of them. I just feel that we need to be careful when choosing the guilty parties for the mess we're in. It could end up like the French Revolution otherwise.

I'll settle with the guillotine for the bankers and a severe public flogging for the BTLers and the greedy indebted

That seems to imply inferior cognitive abilities for the preferenced groups under the new lending laws.

Now I wonder what populations predominate among those preferenced groups? 8)

Well certainly not types who kick back and eat hot buttered popcorn while humanity suffers. Those types are the ones who had all of their cash tied up in oil and other commodities that have since tanked. It's an ascending chain of parasitism, that has invaded even the belief systems of "the strong". How you surviving, there, Jack?

I don't travel in such elevated circles. There are better people to know in a time of crises. (Yes, that is the plural of crisis). 8)

People like Bernie Maddoff are proof that even cockroaches can live in penthouse suites.
An ideology is by definition not a search for TRUTH-but a search for PROOF that its point of view is right

Equals barter and negotiate-people with power just take

You cant defend freedom by eliminating it-unknown

Our elected reps should wear sponsor patches on their suits so we know who they represent-like Nascar-Roy
