You can travel in almost complete anonymity if you wish, via car or motorcycle, paying cash for gas at stations along the way.
I flew somewhere about a year or so ago; and was "selected" for special security. I knew something was up since I couldn't get a preprinted boarding pass, so I went in pajamas, and took nothing. Thus, I will never, ever, fly again. There is no destination on the planet, or cause for travel that will ever convince me that they are worth enduring such scrutiny. I will drive, bike, or sail to whatever destination requires my presence, but I will not fly.
You can say "no" to air travel too.
