My 2 cents here. I have not read this tread carefully yet but will later. This is an interesting thread.
First, you don't need to give up your US citizenship to emmigrate, so says the Supreme Court back in the late 60's or early 70's. The other country may require you to give up your US citizenship but the US can not require you to give up your US citizenship (without additional cause.) I, for example have US/Canadian citizenship, but my wife had to renounce her German citizenship to get US citizenship.
Second, I'm pretty hard core doom in the sense that I think we will have an 80% or so population decline. I do have a second place (or third, or fourth) to live in if I need to. It would be rough but I could survive.
While I may be rethinking the situation given this past week, I don't think collapse will be next week. It is most likely to be a slow degrading of our standard of living. At some point you may want to move to a more stable place, if you can find one.
In thinking about this I went to the Global Footprint Network. They have a pretty good spreadsheet on the basic resources each country has. Not too many countries are in very good shape. US can not support its current population but is closer than most. Some countries, such as mid East oil producers, are very, very poor in natural resources to feed themselves. They are massively in overshoot. As I recall the short list of countries not in overshoot are Norway, Sweeden, Canada, Chile, and a couple of others.
Then you can look to the predicted effects of global warming, some places will get milder and wetter and have good resources.
Then I believe that I have no capacity whatsoever to stop the events that are going to happen in the next 100 or so years. None, nada, nill, zero, zip, etc. The best I can do is to take care of me and mine. Still having that argument with my wife and others. It is called denial.
So, this one doomer has:
done some research,
made initial preparations to move,
have a place to go to,
but is still benefiting from the current situation which is, in my case, fairly comfortable.
When I have to pick up a gun for self defense - I move.
When I can't get a job - I move.
When I can financially divorce myselfe from here - I move.
