The last year has been really interesting as far as oil prices go and the new push for a way to "get off oil". While looking over the Pickins Plan site I found a post that suggested a book, "Profit from the Peak". I bought it and have been reading it. I am not an economist or geologist ;) but am interested in what is going on and the rate of depletion of this finite resource.

My wife and I are interested in securing a future for our children in a world that may be very different from teh world we knew as young adults: Cheap Gas, disposable everything, abundance of energy and food. I feel it is essential as a species to ovecome the dependence we have on fossil fuel if we are to continue to life as we know it or better yet improve on today!

I saw Mononoke Hime this week... it's actually very fitting to peak oil. :)

Hello all,
I was just looking down the list here, and its nice to see so many people have stated where they're from. It shows that even though we're from different parts of the world, we're all still one community.
Very best wishes to all of you

Hi, Jason!

It's interesting to know where people are from, and something about what their lives are like in these disparate places, and how the energy and environmental issues we discuss affect them.

2 SF bay area teachers

Postby MtHkr » Mon 28 Jul 2008, 00:37:15

Summer vacation has been anything but relaxing this year! First, a battery in my new electric car (Zap Xebra) caught fire and now the dealer says he does'nt know when he'll fix it because he has a skeleton crew and orders to fill. Then, while surfing the net, I discover this concept called Peak Oil. It freaked me out a little (especially all the "doomer" sites) , but now I've started my planning. On a happy note, I have more zucchini from my garden than I can eat! After returning from a 13 day trip, we harvested 60 pounds of zucchini, much of it over-sized, and our garden is still producing. And oh, by the way, HI!

Welcome aboard.

By the way, 60 pounds of Zucchini = 4,500 calories. That's just over one day's worth of calories for a couple.

Make sure you stock calories.

$this->bbcode_second_pass_quote('Commanding_Heights', 'N')ot to mention it's about impossible to eat more than 6 pounds of food a day. Oh and BTW hi and welcome.

Thats a sobering thought. you could starve to death while eating all the zucchini you could stand... 8O

I wonder if you would feel hungry with a full belly - or just light headed from the lack of calories. Maybe like those mud cakes they are eating in Haiti.
Welcome aboard...
